  • This paper considers a routing problem on a RPR(Resilient Packet Ring). The RPR is one of the ring-type data telecommunication network. Our major problem is to find an optimal routing algorithm for a given data traffic on the network under no splitting the traffic service, where the maximum load of a link is minimized. This paper characterizes the Minmax problem and develops two heuristic algorithms. By using the numerical comparison, we show that our heuristic algorithm is valuable for efficient routing the data traffic on a RPR.

  • A new switchbox router, called CONQUEROR, is proposed in this paper. The proposed CONQUEROR efficiently routes large switchbox routing area using divide-and-conquer technique. The CONQUEROR consists of three phases` namely, partition of large routing area and assignment of optimal pins of sub-area, detailed routing of each sub-ared, reassignment of pins after rip-up. First, large switchbox routing area is partitioned into several sub-areas and each sub-area contains 4-6 detailed grids. Then pins are assigned on boundary of sub-area by the estimated weight. Secondly, when global pin assignment is completed on all sub-areas, each sub-area is routed using detailed router. Also, detailed routing consists of three pases` layerless maze routing, assignment of layer using coloring, and rip-up and reroute. Lastly, if detailed routing of any sub-area fails, reassignment of pins after rip-up is invoked. Detailed routing is performed for the failed sub-area again. Benchmark test cases have been run, and on all the benchmark data known in the literature CONQUEROR has performed as well as or better than existing switchbox routers.

  • Data communications networks at sea in the future can be modelled by overlapped MANET networks with Broadband Wireless Access carriers. A novel routing scheme (CPLR) is proposed in this paper, which finds out an optimal route by selecting an optimal carrier for each hop in routes based on carrier preferences of each application, and locations of ships as well. As distances between each ships and destination ships are considered in this scheme, routing can be done much faster. Performance is compared with that of the CPR (only Carrier Preference-based Routing Scheme), and it shows some improvements.

  • The purpose of this study is develope the algorithm of channel routing model which can be used for flood forecasting. In routing model, the hydrulic technique of the implicit scheme in the dynamic equation is chosen to route the unsteady varied flow. The channel routing model is connected with conceptual watershed model which is able to compute the flood hydrograph from each subbasin. The comparative study shows that the conceptual model can simulate the watershed runoff accurately. As a result of investigating the channel routing model, the optimal weighting factor $\theta$ which fixes two points between time line is selected. And also, the optimal error tolerance which satisfies computing time and converge of solution is chosen.

  • This paper proposes a new approach for solving the weather routing problem by dividing it into two phases with the goal of fuel saving. The problem is to decide two optimal variables: the heading angle and speed of the ship under several constraints. In the first phase, the optimal route is obtained using the Real-Time Adaptive A* algorithm with a fixed ship speed. In other words, only the heading angle is decided. The second phase is the speed scheduling phase. In this phase, the original problem, which is a nonlinear optimization problem, is converted into a geometric programming problem. By solving this geometric programming problem, which is a convex optimization problem, we can obtain an optimal speed scheduling solution very efficiently. A simple case of numerical simulation is conducted in order to validate the proposed method, and the results show that the proposed method can save fuel compared to a constant engine output voyage and constant speed voyage.

  • Advances in wireless networking technology has engendered a new paradigm of computing, called mobile computing, in which users carrying portable devices have access to a shared infrastructure independent of their physical locations. Wireless communication has some restraints such as disconnection, low bandwidth, a variation of available bandwidth, network heterogeneity, security risk, small storage, and low power. Power adaptation routing scheme overcome the shortage of power by adjusting the output power, was proposed. Existing power saving routing algorithm has some minor effect such as seceding from shortest path to minimize the power consumption, and number of nodes that Participate in routing than optimal because it select a next node with considering only consuming power. This paper supplements the weak point in the existing power saving routing algorithm as considering the gradual approach to final destination and the number of optimal nodes that participate in routing.

  • This paper describes reconfiguration methods for processor arrays as a fault tolerance technique at the fabrication time. First, we show that any method based on a conventional idea cannot achieve optimal in reconfigurability. Then, we present two types of methods based on a new idea, that is sequential routing. The one is optimal in reconfigurability, and the other is advantageous in time complexity.

  • The efficiency of transportation requests fulfillment can be increased through extending the problem of vehicle routing and scheduling by the possibility of subcontracting a part of the requests to external carriers. This problem extension transforms the usual vehicle routing and scheduling problems to the more general integrated operational transportation problems. In this contribution, we analyze the motivation, the chances, the realization, and the challenges of the integrated operational planning and report on experiments for extending the plain Vehicle Routing Problem to a corresponding problem combining vehicle routing and request forwarding by means of different sub-contraction types. The extended problem is formalized as a mixed integer linear programming model and solved by a commercial mathematical programming solver. The computational results show tremendous costs savings even for small problem instances by allowing subcontracting. Additionally, the performed experiments for the operational transportation planning are used for an analysis of the decision on the optimal fleet size for own vehicles and regularly hired vehicles.
