Many LCD manufacturers continue to develop the technologies of LCD manufacturing processes for the reduction of production cost, power consumption and high-resolution. The LTPS (Low Temperature Polycrystalline Silicon) crystallization technology is important for rearranging the internal structure of liquid crystal grain by adding certain energy to amorphous silicon and turning it into poly-silicon in order to manufacture LCD with better performance. We consider 14 existing technologies of LTPS crystallization in the LCD manufacturing and present an intelligent analysis methodology using patent map and AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process) analysis for determining an optimal LTPS crystallization technology. By using patent map analysis, we easily understand the development process and mega-trend of LTPS crystallization technologies and their relationship. By using AHP analysis, we evaluate 14 LTPS technologies. Through the use of proposed methodology, we determine the Continuous Wave Laser Lateral Crystallization technology as an optimal one.

Video streams for mobile video streaming can be encoded to fit the available network bandwidth by controlling three factors: temporal resolution, spatial resolution, and picture quality. The controlling of picture quality by modifying the quantization parameter (QP) is most widely used. In this paper, we demonstrate that reducing the spatial resolution adaptively can be more efficient in terms of picture quality and energy consumption in low bit-rate environment, and present a model to find the optimal spatial resolution for the available bandwidth. Adaptive spatial resolution control scheme is especially effective when the bandwidth between the video server and the mobile device varies considerably with time, and when the mobile device is sensitive to energy consumption. Our scheme can improve the picture quality by approximately O.5dB and reduce energy consumption by more than 50% compared to the conventional video coding in low bit-rate environment.
In this paper, we propose a linear interpolation method based on patch information generated from a low - resolution image for generating a super resolution image in a single image. Using the regression model of the global space, which is a conventional super resolution generation method, results in poor quality in general because of lack of information to be referred to a specific region. In order to compensate for these results, we propose a method to extract meaningful information by dividing the region into patches in the process of super resolution image generation, analyze the constituents of the image matrix region extended for super resolution image generation, We propose a method of linear interpolation based on optimal patch information that is searched by correlating patch information based on the information gathered before the interpolation process. For the experiment, the original image was compared with the reconstructed image with PSNR and SSIM.
Compact Advanced Satellite 500-4 (CAS500-4), which is scheduled to be launched in 2025, is a mid-resolution satellite with a 5 m resolution developed for wide-area agriculture and forest observation. To utilize satellite images, it is important to establish a precision sensor model and establish accurate geometric information. Previous research reported that a precision sensor model could be automatically established through the process of matching ground control point (GCP) chips and satellite images. Therefore, to improve the geometric accuracy of satellite images, it is necessary to improve the GCP chip matching performance. This paper proposes an improved GCP chip matching scheme for improved precision sensor modeling of mid-resolution satellite images. When using high-resolution GCP chips for matching against mid-resolution satellite images, there are two major issues: handling the resolution difference between GCP chips and satellite images and finding the optimal quantity of GCP chips. To solve these issues, this study compared and analyzed chip matching performances according to various satellite image upsampling factors and various number of chips. RapidEye images with a resolution of 5m were used as mid-resolution satellite images. GCP chips were prepared from aerial orthographic images with a resolution of 0.25 m and satellite orthogonal images with a resolution of 0.5 m. Accuracy analysis was performed using manually extracted reference points. Experiment results show that upsampling factor of two and three significantly improved sensor model accuracy. They also show that the accuracy was maintained with reduced number of GCP chips of around 100. The results of the study confirmed the possibility of applying high-resolution GCP chips for automated precision sensor modeling of mid-resolution satellite images with improved accuracy. It is expected that the results of this study can be used to establish a precise sensor model for CAS500-4.

Low-rank representation methods already achieve many applications in the image reconstruction. However, for high-gradient image patches with rich texture details and strong edge information, it is difficult to find sufficient similar patches. Existing low-rank representation methods usually destroy image critical details and fail to preserve edge structure. In order to promote the performance, a new representation-based image super-resolution reconstruction method is proposed, which combines gradient domain guided image filter with the structure-constrained low-rank representation so as to enhance image details as well as reveal the intrinsic structure of an input image. Firstly, we extract the gradient domain guided filter of each atom in high resolution dictionary in order to acquire high-frequency prior information. Secondly, this prior information is taken as a structure constraint and introduced into the low-rank representation framework to develop a new model so as to maintain the edges of reconstructed image. Thirdly, the approximate optimal solution of the model is solved through alternating direction method of multipliers. After that, experiments are performed and results show that the proposed algorithm has higher performances than conventional state-of-the-art algorithms in both quantitative and qualitative aspects.

This paper discusses low resolution face recognition using the photon-counting linear discriminant analysis (LDA). The photon-counting LDA asymptotically realizes the Fisher criterion without dimensionality reduction since it does not suffer from the singularity problem of the fisher LDA. The linear discriminant function for optimal projection is determined in high dimensional space to classify unknown objects, thus, it is more efficient in dealing with low resolution facial images as well as conventional face distortions. The simulation results show that the proposed method is superior to Eigen face and Fisher face in terms of the accuracy and false alarm rates.
Among various inter prediction techniques of Versatile Video Coding (VVC), adaptive motion vector resolution (AMVR) technology has been adopted. However, for AMVR, various MVs should be tested per each coding unit, which needs a computation of rate-distortion cost and results in an increase in encoding complexity. Therefore, in order to reduce the encoding complexity of AMVR, it is necessary to effectively find an optimal AMVR mode. In this paper, we propose a lightweight neural network-based AMVR decision algorithm based on more diverse datasets.

As a basic measurement tool in the areas of animal models of human disease, gene expression and therapy, and drug discovery and development, small animal PET imaging is being used increasingly. An ideal small animal PET should have high sensitivity and high and uniform resolution across the field of view to achieve high image quality. However, the combination of long narrow pixellated crystal array and small ring diameter of small animal PET leads to the degradation of spatial resolution for the source located at off center. This degradation of resolution can be improved by determining the depth of interaction (DOI) in the crystal and by taking into account the information in sorting the coincident events. Among a number of 001 identification schemes, dual layer phsowich detector has been widely investigated by many research groups due to its practicability and effectiveness on extracting DOI information. However, the effects of each crystal length composing dual layer phoswich detector on DOI measurements and image qualities were not fully characterized. In order to minimize the DOI effect, the length of each layer of phoswich detector should be optimized. The aim of this study was to perform simulations using a simulation tool, GATE to design the optimum lengths of crystals composing a dual layer phoswich detector. The simulated small PET system employed LSO front layer LuYAP back layer phoswich detector modules and the module consisted of 8${\times}$8 arrays of dual layer crystals with 2 mm ${\times}$ 2 mm sensitive area coupled to a Hamamatsu R7600 00 M64 PSPMT. Sensitivities and variation of radial resolutions were simulated by varying the length of LSO front layer from 0 to 10 mm while the total length (LSO + LuYAP) was fixed to 20 mm for 10 cm diameter ring scanner. The radial resolution uniformity was markedly improved by using DOI information. There existed the optimal lengths of crystal layers to minimize the variation of radial resolutions. In 10 cm ring scanner configuration, the radial resolution was kept below 3.4 mm over 8 cm FOV while the sensitivity was higher than 7.4% for LSO 5 mm : LuYAP 15 mm phoswich detector. In this study, the optimal length of dual layer phoswich detector was derived to achieve high and uniform radial resolution.

In order to achieve optimal retrieval, i.e., to find the best match to a query according to a certain similarity measure, the exhaustive search should be performed literally for all the images in a database. However, the straightforward exhaustive search algorithm is computationally expensive in large image databases. To reduce its heavy computational cost, this paper presents a fast exhaustive multi-resolution search algorithm based on image database clustering. Firstly, the proposed algorithm partitions the whole image data set into a pre-defined number of clusters having similar feature contents. Next, for a given query, it checks the lower bound of distances in each cluster, eliminating disqualified clusters. Then, it only examines the candidates in the remaining clusters. To alleviate unnecessary feature matching operations in the search procedure, the distance inequality property is employed based on a multi-resolution data structure. The proposed algorithm realizes a fast exhaustive multi-resolution search for either the best match or multiple best matches to the query. Using luminance histograms as a feature, we prove that the proposed algorithm guarantees optimal retrieval with high searching speed.

The accuracy of an augmented reality (AR) application is highly dependent on the resolution of the object's image and the device's computational processing capability. Naturally, a mobile smart device equipped with a high-resolution camera becomes the best platform for portable AR services. AR applications require significant energy consumption and very fast response time, which are big burdens to the smart device. However, there are very few ways to overcome these burdens. Computation offloading via mobile cloud computing has the potential to provide energy savings and enhance the performance of applications executed on smart devices. Therefore, in this paper, adaptive mobile computation offloading of mobile AR applications is considered in order to determine optimal offloading points that satisfy the required quality of experience (QoE) while consuming minimum energy of the smart device. AR feature extraction based on SURF algorithm is partitioned into sub-stages in order to determine the optimal AR cloud computational offloading point based on conditions of the smart device, wireless and wired networks, and AR service cloud servers. Tradeoffs in energy savings and processing time are explored also taking network congestion and server load conditions into account.
