A variety of statistical methods are applied to model and optimize responses, related to product or system's quality, in terms of control and noise factors at design and manufacturing stages. Most of them assume continuous response variables but, assessing the performance of a product or system often involves categorical observations, such as ratings and scores. Although most previous works to deal with the categorical data provide sorhisticated response models and ensure unbiased outcomes, they require heavy computation to estimate the model parameters, as well as enough replications. In this study, we present some practical approaches for optimal parameter design with ordered categorical response when only a few or no replication is available. Two real-life examples are given to illustrate the presented methods.
This paper presents a visual servoing combined by Neural Network with optimal structure and predictive control for robotic manipulators to tracking or grasping of the moving object. Using the four feature image information from CCD camera attached to end-effector of RV-M2 robot manipulator having 5 dof, we want to predict the updated position of the object. The Kalman filter is used to estimate the motion parameters, namely the state vector of the moving object in successive image frames, and using the multi layer feedforward neural network that permits the connection of other layers, evolutionary programming(EP) that search the structure and weight of the neural network, and evolution strategies(ES) which training the weight of neuron, we optimized the net structure of control scheme. The validity and effectiveness of the proposed control scheme and predictive control of moving object will be verified by computer simulation.

This paper focuses on a automation selection of optimal cutting conditions and cycle time for multi-spindle metal cutting machines based on machining parameters and tool change schemes which are the two most common terms used in the metal cutting. In this research we used two step generative approach, step 1 is mathematical modeling for the selection fo optimal cutting conditions and the other is GMDH-Type modeling to estimate the system performance evaluation. We developed computer programs for these models and the fitting manufacturing examples are applied to this model and it was shown that the proposed approach has a good potential and offers a valuable tools to analyse the metal cutting system.

Variation of decision variables for optimal remediation using the pump-and-treat method is examined to estimate the effect of the degree of concentration constraint. Simulation-optimization method using genetic algorithm is applied to minimize the total pumping volume. In total volume minimization strategy, the remediation time increases rapidly prior to significant increase in pumping rates. When the concentration constraint is set severer, the more wells are required and the well on the down-gradient direction from the plume hot-spot gives more efficient remediation performance than that on the hot-spot position. These results show that the more profitable strategy for remediation can be achieved by increasing the required remediation time than raising the pumping rate until the time reaches a certain limitation level. So, the remediation time has to be considered as one of the essential decision variables fer optimal remediation design.
In this paper, we adopt discontinuous Galerkin methods with penalty terms namely symmetric interior penalty Galerkin methods, to solve nonlinear viscoelasticity type equations. We construct finite element spaces and define an appropriate projection of u and prove its optimal convergence. We construct extrapolated fully discrete discontinuous Galerkin approximations for the viscoelasticity type equation and prove ${\ell}^{\infty}(L^2)$ optimal error estimates in both spatial direction and temporal direction.
It should be essentially considered as important points that design of case in electronic product which simultaneously satisfied with structural stability and molding form in respect to developmental period and economical aspect. Especially, a shape of air vents grille, which is made to emit heat happen to be in the internal of product, must satisfy durability and strength but We have no quantitative data because to be done by experience of designer. So, in this study, We will propose that structure of optimal and method of design in air vents grille, which to reduce a lot of loss of time and cost due to trial and error of design and to stabilize in the BALLISTIC Impact test as to estimate strength with external appearance of product, using linear analysis.
We examine the effectiveness of the conventional (Q, r) model in managing production-inventory systems with finite capacity, stochastic demand, and stochastic order processing times. We show that, for systems with finite production capacity, order replenishment lead times are highly sensitive to loading and order quantity. Consequently, the choice of optimal order quantity and optimal reorder point can vary significantly from those obtained under the usual assumption of a load-independent lead time. More importantly, we show that for a given (Q, r) policy the conventional model can grossly under or over-estimate the actual cost of the policy. In cases where a setup time is associated with placing a production order, we show that the optimal (Q, r) policy derived from the conventional model can, in fact, be infeasible.
Accelerated degradation tests (ADTs) measuring failure-related degradation characteristic at the accelerated condition are widely used to assess the reliability of highly reliable products. Often, however, little degradation could be observed even in single-stress ADTs due to the high reliability of test unit, and as a result poor estimate of the reliability may be obtained. ADTs with multiple stress variables can be employed to overcome such difficulties. In this paper, optimal ADT plans with two stress variables are developed assuming that the degradation characteristic follows Weibull distribution by determining the stress levels, the proportion of test units allocated to each stress level such that the asymptotic variance of the maximum likelihood estimator of the q-th quantile of the lifetime distribution at the use condition is minimized.

Surfaces of many engineering structures, specially, those of ships and airplanes are commonly fabricated as doubly curved shapes as well as singly curved surfaces to fulfill functional requirements. Given a three dimensional design surface, the first step in the fabrication process is unfolding or planar development of this surfaces into a planar shape so that the manufacturer can determine the initial shape of the flat plate. Also a good planar development enables the manufacturer to estimate the strain distribution required to form the design shape. In this paper, an algorithm for optimal approximated development of a general curved surface, including both singly and doubly curved surface is developed in the sense that the strain energy from its planar development to the design surface is minimized, subjected to some constraints. The development process is formulated into a constrained nonlinear programming problem, which is on basis of deformation theory and finite element. Constraints are subjected to characteristics of the fabrication method. Some examples on typical surfaces and the practical ship surfaces show the effectiveness of this algorithm.
This paper intends to compare and illustrate the feedback effects of the state feedback scheme to a positional control system by the use of the state observer. As a case study, the dynamic properties of a proposed positional control system lie derived, first, and the design of an optimal state feedback control system by the actual states is intended as a primary case study. For the illustration of the feedback effects with the asymptotic state observer, unobservability of some state variables are assumed and an optimal state feedback design is carried by using the estimated states which is reconstructed through the observer. That is, when some of the states of the system to be controlled are not avalable, an observer is constructed to estimate the unaccessable states. Adigital computer is used for the comparative study of the feedback effects in both cases. The resultant response of the proposed system have shown quite reasonable satisfaction oncontrol quality.
