  • In this paper, we design the pre-equalizer of transmitter circuit in order to enhancement modulation bandwidth of white LED which is light source of VLC (Visible Light Communication). Also, we eliminate yellow light component by optical filtering which mitigate frequency response of white LED. Power loss by optical filtering is overcome by using convex lens. By applying proposed system, 3 dB bandwidth deciding modulation bandwidth of white LED increases from 3 MHz to more than 25 MHz and the transmission distance increases by optical design which secure additional signal power. We optically modulate NRZ-OOK signal to LED and receive light signal using APD. We analyze received data using CSA and RFSA. As a result, we experimently demonstrate the possibility that transmits NRZ-OOK signal up to 30 Mbps in 4.5 m, 50 Mbps in 1.5 m through the pre-equalizer and optical design.

  • In this paper, it is investigated that the limitation due to the asymmetry of optical power with respect to optical phase conjugator(OPC) in mid-span spectral inversion(MSSI) for compensating optical signal distortion due to group velocity dispersion(GVD) and nonlinearities generated in fiber by combining with lumped dispersion management(DM) technique into MSSI. Two kinds of lumped DM configuration(configuration A and configuration B) are considered and compared each other in this research. Configuration A consists of two dispersion compensating fiber(DCF) span positioned after transmitter and before receiver, respectively. Configuration B consists of two dispersion compensating fiber(DCF) span positioned before and after OPC placed at middle of total transmission link, respectively. It is confirmed that the transmission performances are more improved by the configuration A combined with MSSI than configuration B. Also, it is confirmed that the best performance of overall channels are obtained by making net residual dispersion(NRD) to have positive value in self phase modulation(SPM)-limited WDM transmission systems, irrelevant to the configuration of DM.

  • The VLC (visible light communication) system is communication technology using visible rays (RGB) that come out in LED device. It is energy curtailment effect and possible in ubiquitous network service applications. Also, VLC system has the above advantage about that the communication throughout the whole room is enabled by high power lighting and lighting equipment with white colored LED which are easy to install and have good outward appearance. However, the signal detection performance for the receiver near the network of transmitter boundary is severely degraded and the transmission efficiency decreased due to the influence of the interference signal from the adjacent networks. In this paper, we propose an interference mitigation method with optical beamforming in VLC systems, and evaluate the reception performance. For the system BER, the proposed optical beamforming transmission demonstrates the performance enhancement compared to the not using the optical beamforming scheme, and up to about 5~6dB SNR performance gain is achieved.

  • We analyze the link availability of terrestrial free-space optical (FSO) communication systems in Korea. For this purpose, we utilize several theoretical models to calculate the power losses induced by absorption and scattering in the atmospheric channel, using five-year meteorological data for three major cities in Korea (Seoul, Busan, and Daejeon). Also, we estimate the power variations at the receiver caused by scintillation in the data. Those power losses and variations are used to estimate the availability of FSO links in the three cities. The results show that link availability is estimated to be over 95% in Daejeon for a 3.5-km FSO link, when the transmitter power and receiver diameter are greater than 10 dBm and 7 cm respectively. Slightly worse link availabilities are obtained for Busan and Seoul.

  • In this paper, we have fabricated by means of the "Micro-Block Stacking (MBS)" method the 8 pin mini DIL integrated Triplexer, which can transmit CATV and voice/data at the same time in a single fiber. Our MBS technique is a novel scheme of compact optical module packaging which secures precision positioning of the components on the optical beam path by prefixed stacks of ceramic blocks. The subassembly in which a laser diode, two receiver photodiodes, two WDM filters, and four micro lenses are integrated is only $5.40mm{\times}2.15mm{\times}1.05mm$ in size. As the Triplexer is aligned to the single mode fiber, the transmitter power of -14.5 dBm and the receiver sensitivities of 0.83 A/W, 0.73 A/W for 1550 nm, 1490 nm, respectively are obtained.

  • In this paper, we reduced the optical noise interference using polarizers in a visible light communication system. In a transmitter, two light-emitting diodes(LEDs) are modulated synchronously by the original and the reversed signals of the transmitted data, and the two LED lights are radiated through orthogonal polarizers. In a receiver, two optical signals are detected through orthogonal polarizers and differentially amplified to remove the optical noise. In an environment that noise light from a fluorescent lamp is much stronger than the signal, the receiver with orthogonal polarizers removed the 120 Hz noise, and synchronous light transmission of the original and the reversed signals using two LEDs reduced the illumination flickering to about one-eighth that using one LED.

  • Optical camera communication (OCC) is an extension of Visible Light Communication. Different from traditional visible light communication, optical camera communications is an almost no additional cost technology by taking the advantage of build-in camera in devices. It was became a candidate for communication protocol for IoT. Camera module can be easy attached to IoT device, because it is small and flexible. Furthermore almost smartphone equip one or two camera for both back and font side with high quality and resolution. It can be utilized for receiving the data from LED or positioning. Actually, OCC combines illumination and communication. It can supply communication for special areas or environment where do not allow Radio frequency such as hospital, airplane etc. There are many concept and experiment be proposed. In this paper we proposed utilizing Android smart-phone camera for receiver and introduce new approach in modulation scheme for LED at transmitter. It also show how Manchester coding can be used encode bits while at the same time being successfully decoded by Android smart-phone camera. We introduce new data frame format for easy decoded and can be achieve high bit rate. This format can be easy to adapt to performance limit of Android operator or embedded system.

  • LED lighting is spreading on the strength of LED lighting, and various government policies are being implemented. VLC research which is a wireless communication technology using lighting has been actively conducted, and it has been proven through many studies that a general LED light source such as a high-speed data transmitter can be used. But from now on, one of the main problems is the noise from side lights, which can be compared to the noise of radio broadcasts. So in this paper, we proposed a noise canceling model to remove the interference of ambient light by using an optical filter for a detachable VLC channel. In order to verify the proposed model, various high brightness RGB LED modules were used for comparative analysis. In addition, the applicability was verified through experiments using High Luminance LED lighting which is applied in real life.

  • In single mode fiber optic transmission systems(FOT's) operated at high modulation rates over long fiber spans, chromatic dispersion can produce distortion in the demodulated waveforms, resulting in intersymbol interference(ISI) in the received signal and a reduction of transmission system performance. In this paper, chromatic dispersion limitations for intensity modulation and direct detection(IM-DD) systems are studied by considering the effect of phase modulation to amplitude modulation (PM-AM) conversion noise. Laser phase noise conversion to amplitude noise due to fiber chromatic dispersion is analyzed by deriving the noise power spectral density. We first derive the noise power spectral density of the laser phase noise to intensity noise conver- sion. Next, also evaluate the system power penalty and the transmitter laser linewidth required to avoid PM-AM conversion noise penalties in long-haul nonregenerative transmission system using an external modulator and optical amplifiers. For such system with optical amplifiers, transmission sys- tem length is limited due to fiber chromatic dispersion, even if an ideal external modulator is used.

  • Sensor system which can detect a flowing cell is designed and fabricated by semiconductor processing and EDM(Electro-chemical Discharge drilling Method). Two methods are used in this paper; 1) optical method which measures the trasmitted light through the cell passage between transmitter and receiver, 2) impedance method which measures impedance change between electrodes, when cell flows in the cell passage. Experimental result using tabaco leaves shows that the ouput value by optical method is 0.2V to 0.7V, and the output by impedance method is 0.2V to 2V, which is bigger, but it includes an avoidable noises.
