레이저간섭변위 게이지로 관찰한 용접재에서의 피로균열 열림거동과 피로균열 전파속도 (Fatigue crack Propagation Rate and Crack Opening behavior in Weldment Observed by Laser ISDG Method)

  • The constant .DELTA.K fatigue tests are performed in SS41 and its weldments to investigate crack opening behavior and fatigue crack propagation behavior at each parts of weldment and its boundary layer. The weldments were annealed after welding for the purpose of relieving residual stress. Every weldments has notch at weld metal zone, and fatigue crack propagates from weld metal zone to vase metal zone perpendicular to weld line. The Laser ISDG method is used in order to determine the crack opening ratio, this method is more precise than indirect measurement method, and faster and easier than other direct measurement method.

  • An elastic-plastic finite element analysis of fatigue crack closure is performed for plane strain conditions. The stabilization behavior of crack opening level and the effect of mesh size on the crack opening stress are investigated. In order to obtain a stabilized crack opening level for plane strain conditions, the crack must be advanced through approximately four times the initial monotonic plastic zone. The crack opening load tends to increase with the decrease of mesh size. The mesh size nearly equal to the theoretical plane strain cyclic plastic zone size may provide reasonable numerical results comparable with experimental crack opening data. The crack opening behavior is influenced by the crack growth increment and discontinuous opening behavior is observed. A procedure to predict the most appropriate mesh size for different stress ratio is suggested. Crack opening loads predicted by the FE analysis based on the procedure suggested resulted in good agreement with experimental ones within the error of 5 %. Effect of the distance behind the crack tip on the crack opening load determined by the ASTM compliance offset method based on the load-displacement relation and by the rotational offset method based on the load-differential displacement relation is investigated. Optimal gage location and method to determine the crack opening load is suggested.

  • The determination of the stress intensity factor at the crack tip is one of the most widely used methods to predict the fatigue life of aircraft structures. This prediction is more complicated for repaired cracks with bonded composite patch. This study is used to compute the stress intensity factor (SIF) and crack opening displacement (COD) for cracks repaired with single and double-sided composite patches. The effect of the presence of disbond region in adhesive at the crack was taken into consideration. The results show that there is a considerable reduction in the asymptotic value of the stress-intensity factors and the crack opening displacement at the crack tip. The use of a double-sided patch suppresses the bending effect due to the eccentricity of the patch on one side only.

  • 부정정계 배관의 두께 관통 후 파단전누설 거동과 균열개구변위는 정정계 배관과 비교하여 연구 하였다. 부정정 배관은 균열 발생으로 인한 최대 강도의 감소가 비교적 적었다. 부정정 배관계의 파단 전누설 거동은 정정계 배관보다 더 안전 하였다. 균열개구변위는 미관통균열을 가지는 배관에서 균열 관통 후 평가하기 위하여 제안된 소성힌지를 사용하여 평가하였다.

  • 강구조물의 점검시 피로균열이 발견되는 경우에는 보수 보강 시행의 결정과 구조물의 점검주기 결정을 위한 균열의 현재 상태평가와 앞으로의 균열진행 정도에 대한 정량적인 예측이 요구된다. 피로균열에 대한 손상도 평가는 파괴역학 파라미터를 이용한 균열진전속도와 취성파단의 여부 결정이 대표적인 방법으로 파괴역학에 관한 전문적인 지식과 함께 수치해석 프로그램의 활용능력이 필요하다. 이에, 본 연구에서는 피로손상도 평가 방법에 관한 다양성을 확보하고, 파괴역학에 대한 전문적인 지식이 없는 기술자가 피로균열에 의한 강구조물의 손상도를 간편하게 평가 할 수 있는 방법을 개발하기 위한 첫 단계로, 관통균열 시험편을 이용한 균열진전시험을 실시하였다. 그리고 피로균열 표면으로부터 측정된 COD(Crack Opening Displacement)의 크기와 측정위치를 이용하여, 균열진전속도를 추정하기 위한 파라미터를 도출하고, 그 타당성을 분석하였다. 그리고 관통균열이 있는 시험편의 형상, 응력범위, 그리고 응력비에 상관없이 COD를 이용하여 피로균열진전속도를 추정할 수 있는 방법을 제시하였다.

  • 강부재의 피로가 주요원인이 되어 구조물이 붕괴되거나 교체되는 사례를 찾아보기 어렵다. 이처럼 사실상 피로에 대해서는 손상을 허용하고 있지만, 발견되는 피로균열에 대한 직접적인 상태평가는 이루어지지 않고 있다. 피로균열에 대한 진전 비진전성의 판단 및 균열진전속도의 평가가 이루어져야만, 합리적인 보수 보강 공법의 선정과 시행시기가 결정될 수 있을 것이다. 본 연구에서는 측정되는 COD(Crack Opening Displacement)를 통한 피로균열진전속도 평가법을 검토하기 위하여, 2종류의 관통 균열 시험편과 면외거셋 용접이음 시험편의 균열진전시험을 실시하였다. 그리고 실용적인 COD의 측정을 위해 변형률 게이지를 이용하는 방법에 대해 검토하였다. 그 결과, COD 측정을 통한 균열진전속도의 합리적인 평가법을 제안하였고, 변형률 게이지를 이용한 성공적인 COD 측정을 실험적으로 증명하였다.

원주방향 경사관통균열이 존재하는 두꺼운 배관의 탄성 균열열림변위 (Elastic Crack Opening Displacement of Slanted Circumferential Through-Wall Cracks in Thick-Walled Cylinder)

  • According to recent research on leak-rate estimates to assess rupture probabilities of nuclear piping which contains a circumferential surface/through-wall cracks due to PWSCC, i.e., xLPR (Extremely Low Probability of Rupture) program, it has been revealed that the use of crack shape with an idealized circumferential through-wall crack during actual crack growth can lead to overestimate of the leak-rate. Thus, for accurate estimation of the leak-rate during crack growth, the more realistic crack shape that can simulate the crack shape transition from surface crack to through-wall crack should be used. In this context, in the present study, the elastic crack opening displacement of slanted circumferential through-wall crack in thick-walled cylinder was proposed based on 3-dimensional elastic finite element fracture mechanics analyses. To propose the elastic crack opening displacement of slanted circumferential through-wall crack in thick-walled cylinder, the geometric variables affecting crack opening displacement, i.e., thickness of cylinder, reference inner crack length and slant crack ratio were systematically varied. In terms of loading conditions, axial tension, global bending moment and internal pressure were considered. The present results can be applied to calculate the leak-rate considering more realistic crack shape transition from surface crack to idealized through-wall crack, and can be expected to enhance current leak-rate estimation scheme, for instance, in xLPR program etc.

Difficulty in Closing Mouth in Patient with Disc Displacement: A Case Report

  • Clinicians are familiar with limitation of opening mouth caused by temporomandibular disorders. Sometimes, patients also complain of difficulty in closing mouth. Difficulty in closing mouth can be caused by anterior, posterior disc displacement, and subluxation of temporomandibular joint (TMJ). In this report, we presented a patient who had a difficulty in both opening and closing mouth. The patient complained of TMJ noises and intermittent limitation of opening mouth, and inability to get teeth back into maximal intercuspal position. Magnetic resonance images revealed that the left TMJ had an anterior disc displacement with relative posterior disc displacement. We reviewed the possible causes, signs and symptoms, and treatment for difficulty in closing mouth with related literatures.

  • The leak before break(LBB) concept is generalized on the design of LNG tanks, pressure vessels and nuclear reactor in that any leakage of containment, in whatever amount, will not result in catastropic failure. For this purpose it is necessary to determine the surface crack shape, the opening displacement and the risk of catastropic brittle fracture when it becomes a through crack. In this study the crack propagation behavior of surface flaws and the crack opening displacement of through cracks under combined membrane and bending stresses were investigated with fatigue tests and fracture toughness test of aluminium alloy A5083-O. And fracture mechanics analysis of the crack opening displacement of through cracks were made in order to develop a new model expressing the behaviors of COD under combined membrane and bending stresses.

An Investigation about Dynamic Behavior of Three Point Bending Specimen

  • Computer simulations of the mechanical behavior of a three point bend specimen with a quarter notch under impact load are performed. The case with a load application point at the side is considered. An elastic-plastic von Mises material model is chosen. Three phases such as impact bouncing and bending phases are found to be identified during the period from the moment of impact to the estimated time for crack initiation. It is clearly shown that no plastic deformation near the crack tip is appeared at the impact phase. However it is confirmed that the plastic zone near the crack tip emerges in the second phase and the plastic hinge has been formed in the third phase. Gap opening displacement crack tip opening displacement and strain rate are compared with rate dependent material(visco-plastic material). The stability during various dynamic load can be seen by using the simulation of this study.
