Derivational Interpretation of Korean “wh-phrases”

  • In this paper I develop a mechanism of interpreting Korean “wh-phrases”. The phrases have various readings depending on where they occur and they could be ambiguous even in the same structure. Yet their readings are subject to certain restrictions. I assume that the “wh-phrases” behave like variables and that there are three quantifiers to bind the phrases; $COMP_{wh},\;COMP_{conc}$ and derivational $\exists$-quantifier. Based on the assumptions I suggest derivational quantification, which consists of three conditions. 1) A quantifier can bind only when it merges into the derivation; 2) $\exists$-quantifier accompanies 〔-OP〕 complementizer but its activation is optional; 3) an instance of quantification makes the clause opaque to other instances of quantification. Scrambling data support derivational approach and across-the-board interpretation motivates the opacity condition. The opacity condition accounts for ATB- interpretations of reflexive pronouns. It can also explain the island effect of wh-islands without adopting covert wh-movement in Korean.

Modeling Hydrogen Peroxide Bleaching Process to Predict Optical Properties of a Bleached CMP Pulp

  • In this paper, the possibility of statistical modeling from the pulp and peroxide bleaching condition variables to predict optical properties of a bleached chemimechanical pulp used in a newsprint paper machine at Mazandaran Wood and Paper Industries Company (MWPI) was studied. Due to the variations in the opacity and the brightness of the bleached pulp at MWPI and to tackle this problem, it was decided to study the possibility of modeling the bleaching process. To achieve this purpose, Multi-variate Regression Analysis was used for model building and it was found that there is a relationship between independent variables and pulp brightness as well as pulp opacity, consequently, two models were constructed. Then, model validation was carried out using new data set in the bleaching plant at MWPI to test model predictive ability and its performance.

디젤기관의 연소와 배출물에 관한 연구 (A study on Combustion and Exhaust Emission of Diesel Engine)

  • Combustion characteristic, concentration of NOx and exhaust smoke opacity was experimentally tested, according to fuel injection timing, mixing ratio of water and methanol for the driving condition of 2000 rpm of engine revolution and constant load(7.5kg/cm$^{2}$) using emulsified fuel of gas oil-water methanol. The result obtained was as following. Thermal efficiency indicated highly 0.4-2.7% for emulsified fuel then gas oil, and injection timing when maximum thermal efficiency, slicily risen then gas oil. For constant fuel injection timing ignition lag was increased, combustion duration decreased, maximum heat release rate indicated high, and concentration of NOx and exhaust smoke opacity is decreased, as function of water and methanol content y was higher.

Calendering 조건 변화에 따른 인쇄용지의 인쇄적성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Printability of Printing Paper according to the Changing of Calendering Condition)

  • Generally, machine calendering are used change of paper surface properties. During machine calendering, dry paper passes between the rolls under pressure, thereby improving the surface smoothness and gloss. These improvements make the paper better suited for printing and decreasing problems during the printing, such as delayed dry and set-off. Then we investigated newspaper properties by the changing of machine calendering condition, and relationship printability. Properties of each samples were examined in accordance with KS and TAPPI standard test method i.e, basic weight, bulk density, thickness, porosity, opacity, brightness, smoothness and roughness. IGT printability tester was used to obtain ink requirement of newspaper, printed density and set-off. Results of in this study, we have proposed the optimizes range of newspaper calendering condition. Useful optimize calendering condition was pressure 55 kN/m, temperature $130^{\circ}C$.

Recurrent hemoptysis in a 26-year-old woman with a ground-glass opacity lesion of the lung

  • Hemoptysis is a major reason for emergency department (ED) visits. Catamenial hemoptysis (CH), a rare condition of thoracic endometriosis, can cause recurrent hemoptysis but is difficult to diagnose in the ED due to the scarcity of cases and nonspecific clinical findings. We report a case of a 26-year-old woman who presented to the ED with recurrent hemoptysis since 2 years without a definite cause. Her vital signs and blood test findings were unremarkable. Chest computed tomography (CT) did not show any specific lesions other than a non-specific ground-glass opacity pattern in her right lung. She was on day 4 of her menstrual cycle and her hemoptysis frequently occurred during menstruation. Although there was no histological confirmation, based on her history of hemoptysis during menstruation and no other cause of the hemoptysis, the patient was tentatively diagnosed with CH and was administered gonadotropin-releasing hormone. She had no recurrence of hemoptysis for 3 months. While CH is difficult to diagnose in the ED, the patient's recurrent hemoptysis related to menstruation was a clue to the presence of CH. Therefore, physicians should determine the relationship between hemoptysis and menstruation for women of childbearing age presenting with repeated hemoptysis without a definite cause.

Cold EGR 장착 디젤엔진에서의 NOx 저감에 관한 실험적 연구 (An Experimental Study on NOX Reduction in a Diesel Engine with Cold EGR)

  • The objective of the current research work is to investigate the usage of biodiesel combined with the use of EGR in order to reduce the emission of all regulated pollutants from diesel engines. A single cylinder, air cooled, constant speed direct injection diesel engine was used for the experimental work and a cold EGR system was developed and fitted to the engine. Concentrations of HCs, NOx, and CO from the exhaust gas along with the smoke opacity were measured. Engine performance parameters such as the brake thermal efficiency (BTE) and the brake specific energy consumption (BSEC) were also calculated from the measured data. The results from the present investigation suggest that 25-30% EGR rate could give excellent NOx reduction without any significance penalty on smoke opacity or BSEC under the engine load of up to 40%. Under the full load condition, 15% EGR rate was found to be an option while higher EGR rate resulted in inferior performance and heavy smoke.

폐를 침범한 피부근염/다발성근염의 임상적 양상 (Clinical Features of Dermatomyositis/Polymyositis(DM/PM) with Lung Involvement)

  • 연구배경 : 피부근염/다발성근염 환자의 폐침범에 대한 국내의 보고는 드물며, 이에 폐를 침범한 피부근염/다발성근염 환자의 임상상을 살펴보았다. 방 법 : 1989년부터 1999년까지 서울대병원을 내원한 피부근염/다발생근염 환자의 임상양상과 방사선검사를 포함한 검사소견을 후향적으로 분석하였다. 결 과 : 총 79명(피부근염/다발성근염 : 54/25명)의 환자 중 24명(33%)의 환자에서 폐침범이 있었다. 폐침범이 있는 환자군의 여성비(11:1)와 연령($50{\pm}13$세)이 높았다. 폐침범이 있는 환자에서 호흡곤란(79%)과 기침(67%)의 증상이 있었고, ESR이 $47{\pm}7\;mm/hr$, CK/LD가 $2169{\pm}820/577{\pm}61\;IU/L$로 증가하였다. Anti-Jo1 Ab는 30%에서 양성이었다(p-value : 0.03). 흉부 HRCT 상 망상 또는 간유리 음영(9%), 선상 음영 또는 중격 비후(50%), 반점상 경화(38%), 벌집낭(33%), 결절 음영(17%)으로 관찰되었다. 환자는 $30{\pm}28$개월 동안 추적관찰 되었고, 스테로이드 단독치료(46%)와 면역억제제 병행치료(50%)를 받았다. 경과 중 사망률은 폐침범이 있는 군(21%)에서 폐침범이 없는 군(10%)보다 높은 경향을 보였다.

A study on performance and smoke emission characteristics by blending low purity methanol in a DI diesel engine with the EGR rates of 0, 12.8 and 16.5%

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate experimentally the effect of low purity methanol (LPM) on performance and smoke emission characteristics by using a four-cycle, four-cylinder, water-cooled, direct injection diesel engine with EGR system. The experiments are performed by the change of engine load in the engine load ranges of 25 to 100% with an interval of 25% under the constant engine speed of 2000 rpm. The LPM in the fuel blends contained 24.88% water by volume. The blended fuel ratios of diesel oil to LPM are maintained at 100/0, 95/5, 90/10 and 85/15% on the volume basis. In this paper, EGR rates are varied in three conditions of 0, 12.8 and 16.5%. The result shows that the brake power of a blended fuel with 15% LPM is reduced more 11.1% than that of the neat diesel oil at the full load with the EGR rate of 16.5%. At this condition, also, the brake specific fuel consumption (BSFC) is increased by 3.2%, the exhaust gas temperature is decreased by 10.7%, the smoke opacity is decreased by 18.7% and the brake thermal efficiency is increased by 7.3%. The sharp reduction of smoke opacity for a blended fuel with the LPM content of 15% at the full load without EGR system is observed by 68.4% compared with that of the neat diesel oil due to the high oxygen content of LPM.

브릭 정점을 이용한 GPU 기반 볼륨 광선투사법 가속화 (Accelerating GPU-based Volume Ray-casting Using Brick Vertex)

  • 최근에 GPU 기반의 볼륨 광선 투사법을 가속화하는 기법들이 많이 연구되고 있다. 하지만 이런 기법들은 CPU-GPU간 데이터 전송 시 병목 현상을 야기하고 계층구조를 표현하기 위한 추가적인 GPU 메모리 공간이 필요할 뿐만 아니라 불투명도 전이 함수가 변경되었을 때 실시간에 대응하지 못하는 문제점들이 발생할 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 문제점들을 해결하기 위해 GPU 기반의 효율적인 빈 공간 도약 기법을 제안한다. 브릭(brick) 안에 포함되는 복셀들의 최대 밀도 값을 하나의 정점에 저장하고 불투명도 전이 함수에 의하여 투명하다고 판별된 정점들을 기하 쉐이더에서 삭제한다. 이 정점들을 랜더링 시간에 기하 쉐이더의 입력 값으로 사용해 투명하지 않은 영역의 바운딩 박스를 만들어 광선이 효과적으로 진행하도록 한다. 생성된 정점들은 렌더링 중에 시점의 변화에 무관하게 사용할 수 있지만 불투명도 전이 함수가 변경되면 투명하지 않은 정점들을 다시 생성해야 한다. 이는 기하 쉐이더를 통해서 GPU 안에서 고속으로 생성되기 때문에 대화식 처리가 가능하다. 제안하는 방법은 기존 광선 투사법의 결과와 동일한 영상을 생성하며 렌더링 속도는 기존의 방법에 비해 최대 10배 이상 향상되었다.

치근단 역충전용 포틀랜드 시멘트 신복합재료의 물리적 성질 고찰 (Physical properties of novel composite using Portland cement for retro-filling material)

  • 연구목적: 이 연구의 목적은 새로운 근단 역충전 재료를 개발하기 위해 MTA, MTA와 AH-plus 혼합물 (AMTA), 그리고 실험적 개발재료인 Portland cement-Epoxy resin composite (EPPC)의 미세 누출 및 물리적인 성질을 비교하는 것이다. 연구 재료 및 방법: 발거 치아 49개를 근관 성형하고 gutta-percha와 sealer로 충전하였다. 각 치아의 치근을 근단부 3 mm에서 절단하고 3 mm 깊이의 역충전 와동을 형성하였다. 15개씩 무작위로 분류한 치근을 세 군으로 나누어 각각 MTA, AMTA, EPPC로 충전하였고 네 개의 치근은 대조군으로 사용하였다. 각 군의 재료로 역충전이 완료된 모든 실험군을 젖은거즈로 덮고 24시간 동안 경화시켰다. 경화 후 72시간 동안 1% methylene blue 염색액에 담근 후, 치근단을 수직 절단하여 사진을 촬영하고 미세 누출을 평가하였다. Vicat apparatus를 사용하여 실험군 별로 경화시간을 측정하였으며, aluminum step wedge를 사용한 디지털 방사선 사진을 촬영하여 각 군의 방사선 불투과도를 평가하였다. 미세누출과 경화시간에 대해 각 군간의 차이를 일원배치분산분석 및 Scheffe 사후 검증으로 유의수준 95%에서 평가하였다. 결과: AMTA와 EPPC는 MTA군에 비해 적은 미세누출량을 보였다 (p < 0.05). AMTA는 가장 높은 방사선 불투과도를 보였으며 개발 재료인 EPPC군은 5 mm aluminum 두께의 방사선 불투과도를 보였다. MTA가 가장 긴 경화시간을 나타낸반면 EPPC군은 다른 군에 비해 초기경화와 최종경화 모두 가장 짧은 경화시간을 나타냈다 (p < 0.05). 결론: 이 연구 조건하에서, 신개발 재료인 EPPC는 치근단 역충전 재료로서 기존의 MTA보다 양호한 밀폐능력과 방사선 불투과성 및 짧은 경화시간 등의 역충전 재료로서 적절한 물리적 성질을 가진 것으로 보인다.
