Evaluating Online Courses in light of Quality Matters (QM) Standards at Umm Al-Qura University

  • This study aimed to ascertain whether electronic courses at the deanship of electronic learning and distance education at Umm Al-Qura University meet the quality standards developed by the Quality Matters (QM) organization. This endeavor adopted a mixed method of an explanatory sequential research design for an in-depth understanding of the topic under scrutiny. The sample of the study consisted of ten courses designed at the deanship and reviewed using an evaluation form. The results showed that the courses in focus did not meet the criteria of QM. Based on this finding, a semi-structured interview was designed to collect relevant data from the syllabus designers at the deanship. The interviews yielded information on the difficulties the course designers faced when designing QM-criteria-based courses. The results obtained from the interviews showed that the designers experienced administrative, technical, and faculty-member-related challenges that, when producing online courses, intercepted their way to achieving the QM standards. The study closed with some recommendations, the most important of which is a call for re-developing online courses in alignment with the well-recognized QM standards.

  • The online education platform market is developing rapidly after the coronavirus infection-19 pandemic. As school classes at various levels are converted to non-face-to-face classes, interest in non-face-to-face online education is increasing more than ever. However, the majority of online platforms currently used are limited to the fragmentary functions of simply delivering images, voice and messages, and there are limitations to online hands-on training. Indeed, digital transformation is a traditional business method for increasing coding education and a corporate approach to service operation innovation strategy computing thinking power and platform model. There are many ways to evaluate a computer programmer's ability. Generally, piecemeal evaluation methods are used to evaluate results in time through coding tests. In this study, the purpose of this study is to propose a comprehensive evaluation of not only the results of writing, but also the execution process of the results, etc., and to evaluate the programmer's propensity habits based on the programmer's coding experience to evaluate the programmer's ability and productivity.

High accuracy online 3D-reconstruction by multiple cameras

  • For online high accurate reconstruction of an object from an visual information, a linear reconstruction method for multiple images is popular. Basically this method needs many cameras or many different screen shots from different view points. This method, however, has the benefit of less calculation and is adequate for a real time application by comparing other popular method. In this paper, online reconstruction system using more than three cameras is treated. An evaluation method of cameras' position, and of the number is derived for the linear reconstruction method. To decrease errors that are caused from skew of lens, positional error between corresponding points is taken into consideration on the evaluation. The proposed evaluation method enables estimation of the adequate number of cameras and then of feasible view locations. Additionally, repeating search of epipolar lines enables estimation of the hidden point. Comparing with result of an average error analysis, it was confirmed that the proposed methods works effectively.

온라인 영재교육 프로그램에서 중학생의 튜터 역할에 대한 인식이 심층학습, 학업성취, 수업평가에 미치는 영향 (The Influence of Students' Perception of Tutor's roles on Deep Learning, Achievement, and Course Evaluation in Online Gifted Education Program)

  • 본 연구는 중학생 대상의 수학, 과학 온라인 영재교육 프로그램에서 튜터의 역할별 수행 수준을 측정하고, 그것이 학습자의 심층학습과 학업성취 수준 및 수업평가에 어떤 영향을 미치는지 알아보고자 수행되었다. 이를 위해 과학, 수학 온라인 수업을 수강한 중학생 249명을 대상으로 튜터 역할 수행 수준에 대한 설문을 실시하여 심층학습, 학업성취, 수업평가와의 관계를 살펴보았다. 분석 결과 심층학습의 하위변인인 종합적 학습, 반성적 학습에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 변인은 공통적으로 학습내용 및 평가 전문가로서의 튜터의 역할인 반면, 고차적 학습에 영향을 미치는 튜터의 역할은 없는 것으로 나타났다. 다음으로 튜터 역할의 하위 변인 중 학습자의 탐구학습 점수와 전체 점수에 영향을 미치는 변인은 학습과정 및 방법 안내자로서의 역할이었으며, 튜터 역할과 개념학습 점수는 유의미한 관련이 없는 것으로 나타났다. 반면 온라인학습에 대한 전반적인 만족도, 참여도, 이해도에 유의미한 영향을 미치는 튜터 역할은 없는 것으로 나타났다.

  • Advances in information technology, communication and network technology are radically facilitating digital convergences as the integration of human, equipment, and space in the current industry 4.0 era. In industry 4.0 environment, the vast amount of information with networked computing technology can be simultaneously accessible even in limited physical space. Two main benefit points out of these information are the convenience and efficiency in their online transactions either buying things online or selling online. Even though there exist so many benefits that information technology can create for the people doing business over the internet there is a critical problem to be answered. In spite of many such advantages, however, online transactions have many dysfunctions such as personal information leakage, account hacking, and cybercrime. Without preparing the appropriate protection methods or schema people reluctantly use the transaction or would find some other partners with enhanced information security environment. In this paper we suggested a novel selection criteria that can be used to evaluate the reliable means of authentication against the expected risks under on-going IoT based environment. Our selection criteria consists of 4 steps. The first step is services and risk identification step. The second step is evaluation of risk occurrence step. The third step includes the evaluation of the extent of damage. And the final step is the assessment of the level of risk. With the help of the above 4 step-approach people can systematically identify potential risks hiding in the online transactions and effectively avoid by taking appropriate counter actions.

Experience of operating a medical humanities course at one medical school during the COVID-19: a retrospective study

  • Background: This study summarizes the experience of operating a 'Medical Humanities' course, which was taught remotely to maintain activities and discussions at medical schools in Daegu, Korea during the sudden and unexpected coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Methods: The subjects of this study were 73 first- and 79 second-grade medical students who took the medical humanities (1) and (2) courses among first- and second-grade students of Yeungnam University College of Medicine in 2020. Of the 152 students who agreed to the online survey, 123 completed the survey. Self-, environmental, and program evaluations were conducted on the study subjects, and differences according to grade and gender were analyzed. Results: As a result of the study, a significant difference between self-evaluation and environmental evaluation was confirmed. Self-evaluation was determined to be higher in the first grade than in the second grade. The environmental evaluation showed that male students were more satisfied than female students and students generally had difficulties in the classroom environment. Of the applications used in class, the highest satisfaction was observed with KakaoTalk (Kakao Corp.) and Zoom (Zoom Video Communications Inc.). At the end of COVID-19, the students preferred online classes. Conclusion: If the learning environment for online classes is well prepared and systematic provisions are made, such as class operations that are suitable for the subject, effective education and learning can be achieved by taking advantage of both face-to-face and online classes.

Signal Processing and Development Process Based on "MOOC + SPOC + Flipped Classroom"

  • The hybrid teaching approach of "MOOC + SPOC + Flipped Classroom" overcomes the constraints of time and space that are typically associated with traditional teaching methods, thus compensating for the shortcomings of traditional approaches. These changes in education are driven by the "Internet+" wave and the growing popularity of online teaching. The "MOOC + SPOC + Flipped Classroom" hybrid teaching mode can successfully compensate for the drawbacks of traditional teaching methods, thereby overcoming their restrictions. By defining relevant concepts, one can distill the key characteristics of the "MOOC + SPOC + Flipped Classroom" hybrid teaching mode. Formative assessment was employed to thoroughly evaluate the effectiveness of this teaching approach. By leveraging the advantages of massive open online course (MOOC), small private online course (SPOC), and flipped classroom, the "MOOC +SPOC + Flipped Classroom" teaching mode incorporates real-time student assessment through peer evaluation, computer-aided evaluation, and teacher evaluation. This mode promotes the simultaneous development of theoretical knowledge and practical skills, helping students to establish strong foundations while fostering their practical abilities. While the traditional teaching method remains fruitful, the convenience of today's network allows the teaching profession to continually evolve. The traditional teaching mode heavily relies on teachers, making it impossible to conduct lessons without them. However, the development of MOOC enables students to seek knowledge online from their preferred teachers, rather than solely relying on their assigned instructors.

온라인 협력학습 회계수업 적용방안 및 효과에 관한 사례연구 (A Case Study on the Effect of Online Cooperative Learning applied in Accounting Class)

  • 본 연구는 S 대학교의 온라인 협력학습 질의응답에 관한 설문조사 결과를 바탕으로 온라인 비대면 교육 학업성취도 향상을 위한 요소들을 탐색하고자 하였다. 코로나 상황으로 전면 비대면 온라인 수업 시행으로 인한 교수자와 학습자 모두 심리적 고립감을 느끼기 쉬우며 학습 무기력 상태에서 혼자 공부하여야 하고 문제를 해결해 가야 하는 어려운 시기에 온라인 교육의 장점은 살리고 단점은 최소화하는 방법의 하나로 온라인 협력 학습 방법론을 적용한 수업 사례를 공유함으로써 여러 교수자와 학습자에게 미래 교육의 방향성을 제시하고자 하였다. 비대면 온라인 학습과 온라인 협력학습, 학습 촉진 방법론에 관한 선행연구를 검토하였고 구체적인 학습 촉진 방법으로 온라인 질의응답 방법론을 채택하여 연구를 진행하였다. 묻고 답하기(Q&A) 과정에서 학습자는 자신의 학습 내용을 점검하고 지식을 나누고 소통할 기회를 가질 수 있었으며, 질문자와 답변자의 익명성 보장, 향상점수제, 절대평가와 같은 성과평가 관련 요소들이 질의응답을 활용한 온라인 협력학습의 성공 요소로 설문 분석 결과 밝혀졌다. 온라인 비대면 학습이 지속될 가능성이 큰 미래에 실제 적용 가능한 작은 변화이지만 유의미한 교수방법론 적용사례를 공유함으로써 교수자와 학습자 모두에게 능동적이고 적극적으로 학습 현장을 바꾸고 보완해 함께 실력을 향상해 나갈 방법 및 방향성을 제시할 수 있을 것으로 기대한다.

비대면 수업에서 온라인 블렌디드 러닝 적용이 작업치료과 대학생의 수업만족도와 학업성취도에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of Online Blended Learning Application on Occupational Therapy Students' Satisfaction and Academic Achievement in Non-Face-to-Face Classes)

  • Purpose : The purpose of this study is to explore the effectiveness of online blended learning(asynchronous online learning class 1+synchronous online learning class 2) method and discuss the applicability of online blended learning. In this study, we will analyze the differences in class satisfaction and academic achievement between asynchronous online learning and online blended learning classes, and discuss the strengths, weaknesses, and satisfactions of online blended learning. Methods : The subjects of this study were 39 of the occupational therapy students who took the 'child development' course. Asynchronous online learning class was applied for 1-6 weeks and online blended learning was applied for 9~14 weeks. The online blended learning class consisted of 1 hours synchronous online learning and 2 hours asynchronous online learning. For the asynchronous online learning, the screen recording program of OBS Studio was used, and for the synchronous online learning, the Zoom program was used. The results of course evaluation and academic achievement of students according to the type of lecture were compared, and a survey was conducted on the satisfaction of online blended learning. Results : The results of this study are as follows. First, satisfaction(A class: t=-4.19, p=.001, B class: t=-7.94, p=.00) with online blended learning classes was significantly higher than asynchronous online learning. Second, when applying online blended learning class, academic achievement(t=-10.58, p=.00) was significantly higher. Third, the online blended learning class showed the highest satisfaction in improving the interest in the subject, and it was found to be helpful in online class management, professor-student interaction, and class content understanding. Conclusion : We have found that online blended learning can compensate for the shortcomings of online lectures and increase the quality of the lectures and the satisfaction of students. The application of online blended learning should be supplemented according to the characteristics of each class, and I hope that blended online teaching methods can be developed based on new ideas in the future.

공동 행렬대각화 조건 기반 온라인 음원 신호 분리 및 잔향제거 (Online blind source separation and dereverberation of speech based on a joint diagonalizability constraint)

  • 신호에서의 잔향은 암묵음원분리 시스템의 성능을 크게 저하시키는 경향이 있다. 특히 온라인으로 진행되는 시스템일 때, 그 영향이 더욱 두드러진다. 최근 공동 행렬대각화를 활용하여 해당 문제를 해결하고자 하는 연구들이 이루어지고 있다. 본 논문에서는 이를 활용, 발전하여 잔향이 존재하는 환경에서의 미결정 다중 화자의 음원 분리 온라인 알고리즘에 잔향 제거 기능을 추가함으로써 분리한 음원의 품질을 개선하였다. WSJCAM0 데이터베이스에서 실험을 통해 기존에 사용되고 있는 온라인 알고리즘 성능과 비교하였다. 성능 평가는 신호 대 왜곡 비(Signal-to-Distortion Ratio, SDR)와 Perceptual Evaluation of Speech Quality(PESQ)를 통해 이루어졌고, 기존 알고리즘 대비 SDR은 평균 1.23 dB에서 3.76 dB로 향상되었고, PESQ는 1.15에서 2.12로 성능이 향상되었음을 검증하였다.
