  • In this study, we developed Void Plywood Slab (VPS) that improved the shape of existing hollow materials. Its performance was evaluated through one-way flexural and one-way shear tests using the developed VPS. As a result of the one-way flexural performance tests of VPS, the yield load value for FPS series(longitudinal direction specimens with hollow materials) was approximately 97.5% compared to FPS-00(without hollow materials) specimen. The tests showed that the yield load was not much different. In addition, FNS series(transverse direction specimens with hollow materials) also represented about 97% of FPS-00 specimen. The one-way flexural performance was shown to have little impact from void materials. Therefore, it is confirmed that the presented system is applicable to the VPS to the slab design. The results of the one-way shear performance tests of VPS showed that it was about 92% compared to the SS-00(without hollow materials) specimen. These results were somewhat insufficient for the SS-00 specimen. Shear strength equation is expressed as the sum of shear force by concrete and shear force by reinforcement. However, in the case of void slab, it is believed that the concrete section has been deleted by the void material. However, the strength of the structure applied to the shear design, as with the flexural design, is also applied to the design based on the yield load value.

  • This study aims to trace the response of twelve one-way sustainable concrete hollow-core slabs made by reducing cement content and using replacement of coarse aggregate by plastic aggregate. The trial mixes comprise the 25, 50, 75, and 100% replacement of natural coarse aggregate. The compressive strength of the resulting lightweight concrete with full replacement of coarse aggregate by plastic aggregate was 28 MPa. These slabs are considered to have a reduced dead weight due to using lightweight aggregate and due to reducing cross-section through using voids. The samples are tested under two verticals line loads. Several parameters are varied in this study such as; nature of coarse aggregate (natural or recycled), slab line load location, the shape of the core, core diameter, flexural reinforcement ratio, and thickness of the slab. Strain gauges are used in the present study to measure the strain of steel in each slab. The test samples were fourteen one-way reinforced concrete slabs. The slab's dimensions are (1000 mm), (600 mm), (200 mm), (length, width, and thickness). The change in the shape of the core from circular to square and the use of (100 mm) side length led to reducing the weight by about (46%). The cracking and ultimate strength is reduced by about (5%-6%) respectively. With similar values of deflection. The mode of failure will remain flexural. It is recognized that when the thickness of the slab changed from (200 mm to 175 mm) the result shows a reduction in cracking and ultimate strength by about (6% and 7%) respectively.

  • In this study, a trapezoidal hollow ball is used, instead of a spherical hollow ball commonly used in void slab, to secure the high hollow ratio in the deck type void slab. The bending and shear performance was measured with consideration for the shape change of the hollow ball. And to confirm the effect of deck plate and truss wire on shear performance, experiments were performed depending on the installation directions of the one-way deck plate. As a result, the bending performance of the deck type void slab with a trapezoidal hollow ball was similar to that of the void slab with a spherical hollow ball. However, according to the data of shear strength examined, the contribution of shear performance enhancement of the truss wire had a more effect on the shear performance of deck type void slab, rather than the influence by changing of the shape of hollow ball. In the previous studies, the shear strength is reduced to about 60%, due to the reduction of the effective section of concrete by installation of hollow ball. But in this experiment, the maximum load of specimen, in which the deck was installed in horizontal direction, so expected to have no influence on the shear performance, was only reduced to about 87%, due to the truss framework of truss wire.
