  • In this study on machine measuring system based on solid feature was developed. This system was applied with injection mold using 3 dimensional solid modeler for verification. Developed program include pre-processor, main processor, and post processor. In pre-processor there are functions which check intersection, simulate motion of probe and calculate measuring time. Main processor generates measuring path and output NC code in Unigraphics. In post-processor functions that include evaluation of undercut or overcut and display of measuring procedure are offered. In addition analysis module for quality control of measured data on manufactured product was developed with geometric and dimensional tolerance concept. As the result developed program could get stability of system, precision of product, rapidity and cost down of manufacturing process compared with before measuring process.

  • Various types of measuring devices are used for reverse engineering and inspection in different fields of industry such as automotive, aerospace, computer graphics, and home appliance. In order to measure a part easily and efficiently, it is important to select appropriate measuring device considering the characteristics of each measuring machine and part information. In this research, an optimal measuring device selection system using neural networks is proposed. There are two major steps: Firstly, the measuring information such as curvature, normal, type of surface, edge, and facet approximation is extracted from the CAD model. Second, the best suitable measuring device is proposed using the neural network system based on the knowledge of the measuring parameters and the measuring resources. An example of machine selection is implemented to evaluate the performance of the system.

  • The purpose of this paper is to establish an effective inspection system by using OMM (On-Machine Measurement) system based PC-NC. This system can reduce manufacturing lead time because a workpiece is inspected at every machining process and the manufacturing system which includes inspection faculty is able to realize on-line process on CNC machining center. The proposed OMM system is composed of a few algorithms for determination of inspection parameters. It is accomplished by determining the number of measuring points, their location, measuring path using fuzzy logic, Hammersley's method, TSP (Traveling Salesperson Problem) algorithm. The inspection feature applied to this system is based on machining feature. This method is tested by simulation and experiment that are analyzed measuring data and geometry tolerance.

  • Coordinate measuring machines(CMMs) are used to obtain the dimensional information with micron accuracy. This paper is concerned with the development of the horizontal arm type coordinate measuring machine using open architecture controller. The coordinate measuring machine considered in this paper consists of three orthogonal axes in the x, y and z directions. Open architecture controller IS used to implement a measuring system which can be fulfill to various needs of endusers of coordinate measuring machines. The open architecture controller presented here is embodied in personal computers. The programs and man-machine interfaces(MM1) are developed for various measuring conditions. Through the computer simulation based on the mathematical models of the coordinate measuring machine, control parameters are optimally tuned.

  • Design methodology of Interactuve Measuring Part Program Generating Tools(IMPPGT) realized on the FANUC 15MA using touch trigger probes and interactive macro functions of the CNC was described in this paper. Measuring G codes have been designed according to probe ste up, basic and applied inspection items by using measuring arguments. Menu driven measuring and inspection functions of the IMPPGT were studied and implemented on the CNC through the macro executor and ROM writer. Using the developed measuring G code system on the machine tool, untended measurement and inspection operation was able to be realized in precision FMS lines.

  • This paper presented a linear motion accuracy by using two-dimensional probe with the master block and the square for NC machine tools. This measuring system could be measured motion error due to numerical control system. The results of measurement and simulation for motion error were similar, and so, this system had enough accuracy to measure a linear motion accuracy for NC machine tools. The experimental results are as follows. 1. This measuring system could be measured motion error due to mumerical control system. 2. The results of measurement and simulation for motion error were similar. 3. This measuring system had enough accuracy to measure a linear motion accuracy for NC machine tools.

  • Fizeau interferometer is well known optical instrument for measuring the lens profile accurately. The object of this study is focused on the design and optical measuring techniques for large optical components, such as a reflection mirror for astronomical purpose. Measuring of large optical lens, the object could not be moved as small one but the measuring instrument must be moved for the alignment, because of the geometric conditions and the accuracy of the stage. Therefore, a five axis stage is designed to align the Interferometer instead of the measuring object. This instrument will be used for an on machine measuring system in polishing machine for large optical lens.

  • Measurement and inspection of freeform surfaces are required in reverse design processes. In the case of surface measurement using a touch probe, probe radius compensation affects measuring accuracy. But current industrial practice depends upon an operator's experience to compensate for probe radius. In this paper, an on-the-machine measuring and inspection system for freeform surfaces is studied. Probe radius compensation methodology is investigated by modeling of B-spline surfaces based on digitized data. The accuracy and reliability of the developed system is verified through various kinds of numerical simulations and on-the-machine experiments.

  • A 2$\frac{1}{2}$ dimensional measurement and inspection system realized on the machine tool using a touch trigger probe and measuring G codes is synthesized in this paper. Measuring G codes have been constructed according to geometric farms, precision attributes, relationships between two parts, datum hierarchies, and relevant technological data by using measuring arguments. Algorithms far calibration and compensation of measuring errors are proposed to ensure the measuring accuracy by using a laser interferometer and ring gauges. Classification of feed rates according to the objectives of movement makes it possible to reduce measuring time and also implement collision-free measurement. Experiments are conducted to verify the validity and effectiveness of proposed methods.
