  • The treatment efficiency of PCBs containing wastes has been investigated. The samples treated by electron beam and de-chlorination method were analyzed to verify the byproducts before treatment and after treatment. In the treated samples by electron beam irradiation, PCBs were not detected by comparing the peak matching using the Korean official waste test method. On the other hand, PCBs congeners were detected by analyzing individual isotope method using HRGC/HRMS. Most of PCB congeners in waste were decomposed to 3-chlorobiphenyls, lower chlorinated congener produced during the treatment of electron beam. In the chemical dechlorination treatment, it was found that the concentrations of PCBs in treated samples were lower than those of regulation criteria in Waste & POPs management law and the after treatment concentration were satisfied to the regulation criteria. Also, dioxins were not observed after the physio-chemical treatment processes of PCBs containing wastes.

  • To determine the trace level of synthetic and natural hormones in food, the improvement of official analytical method and new development of simultaneous determination of hormones were established. On the basis of developed analytical method, the background level of natural hormones and distribution of residual hormones were monitored in meat. Target hormones were six natural hormones such as estrogens ($17{\beta}$-estradiol, $17{\alpha}$-estradiol, estrone), androgens ($17{\beta}$-testosterone, $17{\alpha}$-testosterone), and gestagens (progesterone) and three synthetic hormones such as DES, zeranol, and taleranol. These hormones were analyzed by gas chromatographymass spectrometry. Newly developed multi-residue analysis method was applied for meat sample which were collected from market in the capital region and monitored the presence of residues of synthetic and natural steroid hormones. No residue of synthetic hormones were detected and endogenous level of progesterone was detected in cattle, pig and liver samples tested.

  • Biodegradable films were prepared by solution blend method in the weight ratio of chitosan for the purpose of useful biomaterials. The possibility of biomaterials prepared from natural polymer as a skin substitute was evaluated by measuring biocompatibility. These films were inserts in the back of rat and their biodegradability was investigated by the film weight and hematology as a function of time for the biotransformation. The result of rat test showed that medium, high viscosity chitosan induced some suspects of inbiocompatibility in the tissue by goreign body reaction 48 and 72 hours after implantation. Also, we prepared the official burn ointment which is made by low viscosity chitosan. This burn ointment was covered on the skin wound of artificial burn and their effect of healing was investigated by the evaluation of the naked eye and hematological change as a function of time. The result of rats test showed that burn ointments made from chitosan was effective reductio of inflammation than negative group.

  • The objective of this research is to investigate the leaching characteristics of unregulated heavy metals such as Ni, Zn, Ba, Be, Sb, Se, V in specified waste. 108 waste samples which were taken from the representative facilities emitting hazardous substances, were analyzed. The rate of leaching of heavy metal was measured using an official test method. From the results, wastewater treatment sludge and dust contained much Ni, and Zn was detected in all samples. Dust and waste catalyst producted from petroleum-refining process tended to reveal V in high concentration. Ba, Be, Sb, Se showed low concentration, but require additional analyses of waste generated at different industries.

  • Many studies have presented results about the antioxidative and antimicrobial activities of Dandelions (Taraxacum officinale). There has yet to be a study which makes comparisons of nutrients based on the parts of the Dandelion. To identify the nutrient composition by part of dandelion, nutrient contents were analyzed. Dandelions were taken from Songpa-gu in Seoul and the nutrient composition of the flower, leaf and root were measured. The nutrient content of each part was analysed by using the method developed by the Association of Official Analytical Chemists (AOAC). The proximate components(moisture, protein, fat, fiber, ash, and carbohydrates), minerals and vitamins of the dandelion were analysed. The nutrient composition of the dandelions showed many significant differences among the parts when the differences were determined by using Duncan's multiple range test. The leaf contains more protein, ash, Ca, K, Mg, Zn, vitamin A, B$_1$, B$_2$, and C than the other parts. The root has much more fiber, carbohydrate, P and Fe content. The results demonstrate that dandelions could be used as a food source supplement for fiber, Ca, Fe and vitamin B$_2$ which are common nutritional deficiencies in Korea. It is recommended that more research for other bio-functional factors besides nutrients composition is needed to enhance the utilization of the dandelion.

  • The clouds-shaped pattern is originated from Taoism, Buddhism, and Confucianism. It stands for good-luck, longevity and productivity. It has been used on its own or with other patterns since the ancient times. It also has various forms. It particularly was used more frequently than any other patterns as a typical good-luck pattern, representing auspiciousness, divine authority, and so on in Chosun dynasty. The pattern, according to its component parts, is classified as individual type and compound type, which is mixed with other patterns such as treasure pattern, plant pattern, letter pattern, or animal pattern. For both individual type and compound type, swastika-shaped cloud pattern was mostly used. For compound type, the pattern compounded of treasure pattern was extraordinarily used a lot. In terms of the arrangement, the most common arrangement methods were brick-shaped arrangement and dense type arrangement, the arrangement method that spreads the patterns all over the surface. Among the fabrics with clouds-shaped pattern, satin damask fabrics had the majority. Clouds-shaped pattern was used a lot in men's Po(coat), such as Dahnryoung, Jiknyoung, Chollik, etc. rather than in women's clothes. It was a typical pattern used in Dahnryoung, an official uniform that represented people in the highest class in Chosun dynasty. The divine power symbol of this pattern indicated the authority and dignity that the upper class people could have.

  • A low level of transparency and trust in the release of government information during the COVID-19 pandemic could decrease the chance of success in handling the coronavirus outbreak. This worldwide pandemic has damaged not only human health but also created an economic and social crisis. Indonesia is no exception. Unfortunately, an analysis of a mixed-method survey of 500 participants found that public perception of transparency in the government's release of COVID-19 information is still at a low level. This perceived low level of transparency generates minimum trust in the information. Only 8% of participants trust the government's information regarding the virus. Even though the Indonesian government launched an official website, www.covid19.go.id, which is intended as a primary source of valid information about COVID-19 in Indonesia, most survey participants had never used the website. However, contrary to the low levels of perceived transparency and trust, most participants said that the messages from the government are clear and easy to understand. This contradiction resulted from skepticism toward the government. Therefore, this research presents a better understanding of how the level of transparency and trust is also related to the level of skepticism of the government.
