One male Arabian horse, 5-year-old, reared in Gort, Co Galway, Ireland was diagnosed as conjunctivitis. Acupuncture and aquapuncture with dexamethasone were done at BL01, BL02 and ST01, twice a week, and oculo-acupuncture was done into Shangjiao area using with oculo-acupuncture needle for human use. At session 3, there were no lacrimation, ocular discharge and hyperemia in the eye. The present patient was a case with equine conjunctivitis which showed favorable therapeutic response by acupuncture treatment.

This study was performed to clarify the effect of oculo-acupuncture (OA) on change of serum gastrin concentration. Twenty-three clinically healthy mongrel dogs were used in this study. This study was comprised of two experiments. In experiment 1, the effect of OA (stomach/spleen region) with comparison of non-a cup oint was examined. On the other hand, the effect of OA (stomach/spleen region) with comparison by body acupuncture (BL-21) was also examined in experiment 2. Serum gastrin levels were measured on before, 0, 30, 60 and 120 minutes after treatment in both non-acupoint and stomach/spleen region groups, and BL-21 The results showed that significant decreases in serum gastrin level was detected on 30 mins(p<0.05) after OA when compared with that of non-acupoint group. Serum gastrin concentrations with OA at stomach/spleen region group were significantly decreased on 60 mins (p<0.05) and 120 mins (p<0.01) compared with those of the AP at BL21 group. In conclusion, it was demonstrated that OA at stomach/spleen region had significantly decreased serum gastrin levels in dogs and OA at stomach/spleen region decreased serum gastrin concentration more than that body acupuncture at BL-21.

This study was performed to clarify the effect of oculo-acupuncture(OA) on change of gastric contraction. Twenty-four clinically healthy mongrel dogs were used and divided into two groups regarding feeding condition; non-acupoint group (n=6) and Stomach/spleen region group (n=6) were stimulated by OA. In addition, 12 dogs were fasted for 24 hrs and divided into two groups; non-acupoint group (n=6) and Stomach/speen region group (n=6) was stimulated by OA. The change in frequency of gastric contraction was measured via abdominal ultrasound before, 0, 30, 60 and 120 minutes after OA. Significant differences were detected at 30 mins (p<0.05), 60 mins (p<0.05) and 120 mins (p<0.01) in the Stomach/speen region group, compared with those of non-acupoint group in feeding condition.

A 6-month-old thoroughbred filly foal had torticollis and circled towards the right side. A local veterinarian treated her twice using dexamethasone for 1 week but there was little clinical improvement. Needles were inserted into Ting points of both hind limb and one ocular acupoint (shang jiao area from GB01). Injection acupuncture (dexamethasone, twice/week) was used at GV16, GB20, BL10 and LU07, for the neck and head. Acupoint GB34 was added to those points at session 4. In addition, a trigger point in the left neck was injected with 0.2 ml ($200{\mu}g$ of apitoxin) of bee-venom diluted with 1 ml of 2% lidocaine from session 1 to session 3. At session 2, the symptoms had ameliorated a little. At session 3, they were much improved; the right ear was completely normal and the neck could be moved about 60% of normal range. At session 4, nodding was possible and stiffness of the neck was much improved, having returned to about 80% of normal range. Three days after session 4, the symptom of torticollis had disappeared completely and the foal could walk in a straight line. In conclusion, the present patient was a case with equine torticollis which showed favourable therapeutic response by combination of needle-acupuncture plus injection-acupuncture with dexamethasone and apitoxin.

A about 2-month- old, mixed female cat was referred to Yeon Chang Veterinaly Clinic in Taiwan. Because this patient was wandering cat, precise history was not blown. At first admission, miosis, ptosis and protrusion of the nictitating membrane was observed in the right sided eye, and also slight miosis was found in the left sided eye. The patient was diagnosed into feline HS. Oculo-AP and injection-AP with dexamethasone were applied to this patient. Oculo-AP at Shang Jiao regions of both eyes was done for 10 minutes. In addition, injection-AP with dexamethasone (0.2 ml/acupoint) at BL01-Jing Ming, BL02-Zan Zhu and ST01-Cheng Qi. After AP treatment, prolapse of the nictitating membrane was amazingly disappeared and pupil was dilatated at session 1. Ocular findings at session 2 (one day after session 1) were maintained with nearly normal state. Accordingly, the present patient was a case with feline HS that showed favorable therapeutic effect by AP treatment.
