  • This paper deals with the method to estimate the friction in a system. We study a nonlinear friction model to estimate the friction in an inverted pendulum and approximate the friction model using fuzzy basis functions expansion. To demonstrate the friction observer using FBFs, we derive a update rule based on the error term that is formed by the output from a real system and observer output with a friction estimate. And two compensation algorithms to improve the response of an inverted pendulum are proposed. The first method that a observer parameter is updated in on-line and the friction is compensated at the same time. The second method is to compensate the friction with observer parameter estimated priori. The two methods is compared through the experimental results.

  • In industrial multivariable plants, it is often the case that the plant outputs are detected not simultaneously but serially. In this paper, the problem of estimating the state vector of the plant based on the data obtained from such a detecting scheme is considered, and a special type of observer (referred to as a "serial-sampling' type observer) which renews its internal states whenever a new data is obtained is proposed. It is proved that such an observer can be constructed for almost every sampling period if the plant is observable as a continuous-time multivariable system, and that the poles of the closed-loop system using the serial-sampling type observer consist of the poles of the observer and those of the state feedback system. The behaviors of the observer and the closed-loop system are studied by simulation. The results of simulation indicate that a serial-sampling type observer can estimate the state of the plant more accurately than the ordinary type observers and improve the closed-loop performance.ance.

  • This paper deals with an observer design for a P-Cell Chopper. The goal is to reduce drastically the number of sensors in such system by using an observer in order to estimate all the capacitor voltages. Furthermore, considering an instantaneous model of a p-cell chopper, an interconnected observer is designed in order to estimate the capacitor voltages and some parameters of the model. This is realized by using only the load current measurement. Simulation results are given in order to illustrate the performance of such observer. To show the validity of our approach, experimental based a DSP results are presented.

  • In this paper, we present an adaptive observer for multi-output nonlinear systems that include unknown constant parameters and are not necessarily observable. Based on generalized nonlinear observer canonical form, new adaptive observer canonical form is proposed. Sufficient conditions are given for a nonlinear system to be transformed into the proposed adaptive observer canonical form. The existence of the proposed adaptive observer is given in terms of Lyapunov-like condition and SPR condition. An illustrative example is presented to show the design procedure of the proposed method.

  • This paper presents a new speed and position sensorless control method of permanent magnet synchronous motors based on the sliding mode observer. Since the parameter of the dynamic equation such as machine inertia or viscosity friction coefficient are not well known and these values can be easily changed generally during normal operation, there are many restrictions in the actual implementation. The proposed adaptive sliding mode observer applies adaptive scheme so that observer may overcome the problem caused by using the dynamic equation. Furthermore, using the Lyapunov Function, the adaptive sliding mode observer can estimate rotor speed as well as stator resistance. The feasibility of the Proposed observer is verified cia the experiments.

  • In this paper, a current control system of a single phase PWM AC/DC converter using a reduced-order Luenberger observer without source voltage sensors is proposed. The sinusoidal input current and unity input power factor are realised based on the estimated source voltage performed by the reduced-order Luenberger observer using actual currents and DC link voltage. The poles of the reduced-order Luenberger observer are placed in the left half plane of s-plane by the pole-placement method in order to acquire the stability of the observer. The magnitude and the phase of the estimated source voltage are used to accomplish the unity power factor. The proposed method is implemented by DSP(Digital Signal Processor). Experimental Results verify that the reduced-order observer estimates the source voltage without the estimation error and the control system accomplishes the unity power factor, and constant DC link voltage.

  • We design a sliding mode cascade observer to estimate state of the output. In the 1st step of the observer, the output will be estimated, and the 1st order state of the output will be estimated via the 2nd step of the observer. Also, nth order state of the output will be estimated in the n+1th step of the observer. Therefore, this paper will be presented to design the slide mode observer of cascade based cascading convergence concept of state observer error.

  • This paper proposes a new anti-slip re-adhesion control system fur electric railway vehicle driven by inverter-fed induction motors. This paper introduces an instantaneous tangential farce coefficient estimator between driving wheel and rail, which is based on disturbance observer. The torque command of proposed system regulates to exceed this estimated tangential farce coefficient in order to avoid undesirable slip phenomenon of driving wheels. We have already proposed the anti-slip re-adhesion control system based on disturbance observer for simplified one wheel equivalent model successfully. This paper extend to this system to the actual bogie system, which has four driving wheels driven by two induction motors fed by one inverter. In order to apply anti-slip re-adhesion control to the actual bogie system a new anti-slip re-adhesion control based on both disturbance observer and speed sensor-less vector control of induction motor with quick response are combined. The experimental results and the numerical simulation results prove the validity of the proposed control system.

  • This paper deals with the observer-based decentralized fuzzy controller design for nonlinear interconnected system for PEMFC. The nonlinear interconnected system is represented by a Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy model. Based on T-S fuzzy interconnected system, the fuzzy observer and the decentralized fuzzy controller are designed. The stability condition of the closed-loop system with the proposed controller is represented to the linear matrix inequality (LMI) form, and the observer and control gain s are obtained by LMI. An example is given to show the verification discussed throughout the paper.

  • This paper presents sensorless speed control of a cylindrical permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) using the adaptive integral binary observer. In view of the composition with a main loop regulator and an auxiliary loop regulator, the normal binary observer has the feature of chattering alleviation in the constant boundary layer. However, the steady state estimation accuracy and robustness are dependent upon the thickness of the constant boundary layer. In order to improve the steady state performance of the binary observer, a new binary observer is formed by the addition of extra integral dynamics to the existing switching hyperplane equation. Also, because the parameters of the dynamic equations such as machine inertia or viscosity friction coefficient are not well known and these values can be changed during normal operations, there are many restrictions in the actual implementation. The proposed adaptive integral binary observer applies an adaptive scheme so that the observer may overcome the problems caused by using dynamic equations. The rotor speed is constructed by using the Lyapunov function. The observer structure and its design method are described. The experimental results of the proposed algorithm are presented to prove the effectiveness of the approach.
