Purpose : To evaluate the voices of irradiated patients with early glottic carcinoma and to compare these with the voices of healthy volunteers. Materials and Methods : The voice samples (sustained vowel) of seventeen male patients who had been irradiated for T1a glottic squamous carcinoma at least 1 year prior to the study were analyzed with objective voice analyzer (acoustic voice analysis, aerodynamic test, and videostroboscopic analysis) and compared with those of a normal group of twenty age- and sex-matched volunteers. Average fundamental frequency, jitter, shimmer, and noise-to-harmonic ratio were obtained for acoustic voice analysis. Maximal phonation time, mean flow rate, intensity, subglottic pressure, glottal resistance, glottal efficiency, and glottal power were obtained for aerodynamic test. Results : The irradiated group presented higher values of shimmer in acoustic voice analysis. There was no significant difference between two groups in other parameters. Conclusion : In this study all the objective voice parameters except shimmer were no4 significantly different between the irradiated group and the control group. These results suggest that the voice quality is minimally affected by radiation therapy for 71 a glottic carcinoma.

Objective : This research was conducted to evaluate the method of sasangin classification by voice analysis, The 2 pilot tests were thus designed to solve the following problems: 'What are the conditions at classification for sasangin by the voice analysis?' and 'What are the important variances of /a/ parameter?'. Methods: 122 volunteers Were examined to make a diagnosis of sasangin by QSCC II and they were disease-free and healthy, First, they said /a/ three times for 2 seconds in their usual voice, Second, they said /a/ for 2 seconds by the different ways of high tone, mid tone, and low tone. The sounds were collected by a recording program (cooledit 2000) through a Sony microphone (ecm-26l). We analyzed the voices by maltlab, the simulation tool. Results: There were no differences and were correlations when one said /a/ three times for 2 seconds in the usual voice. There were some things to correlate when one said /a/ three times for 2 seconds by the different ways of high speech, usual speech, and low speech. Others were nothing to correlate. We evaluated the value of sasangin classification method by only /a/ voice analysis. The hit ratio was average $66.3\%\;:\;soyangin\;67.9\%,\;taeumin\;68.0\%,\;soeumin\;63.9\%$. Conclusion: We must set up the conditions to use the method of sasangin classification by voice analysis. The value of sasangin classification method by only fa! voice analysis was a hit ratio of $66.3\%$.

Objectives : To compare the objective differences in voice quality and voice problems between clergies and normal male control group. Materials and Methods : The sustained vowel sound of 46 clergies and 40 normal persons were analyzed, using a videostroboscopy and acoustic analyzer. Together with these analyses, a questionnaire associated with current and past voice problems was handed over to the patients. Results : The most common symptom in subjective group was the voice fatigue. Stroboscopic findings in subjective group were as following 23 cases(50%) of pachydermia, 17 cases(37%) of phase difference, 12 cases(25%) of anterior-posterior contracture, 6 cases(13%) of vocal polyp and 3 cases(7%) of vocal nodule. The mean maximal phonation time in clergies was 17.8 seconds and in control group was 19 seconds. litter, pitch perturbation quotient and shimmer were significantly increased in subjective group than in control group(p<0.05), but there were no significant differences between two groups in fundamental frequency, vFo, amplitude perturbation quotient and noise to harmonic ratio. Conclusion : In the clergies using loud and forceful voice, vocal polyp and functional voice disorder findings were frequently noted in stroboscopic examination. litter and shimmer, reflecting the roughness of voice, were increased in acoustic analysis. Therefore, clergies, classified into untrained professional voice users, need professional career guidance and counseling.

Background and Objective The purpose of this study is to report the effect of voice therapy using the voice reinforcement method (VRM) in patients with vocal nodules. It is one of the holistic voice therapy methods for improving vocal mechanisms. VRM includes not only direct and indirect voice therapy, but also trial therapy and self-practice. Composed of four stages: vocal hygiene education, relaxation, reinforcement, and generalization. Materials and Methods The subjects were 13 patients who were diagnosed with vocal nodules. Acoustic analysis, auditory perceptual assessment, K-VHI-10 and nodules size were compared before and after voice therapy. Voice therapy was conducted by speech-language pathologist and the mean number was 4.2. Results In acoustic analysis, Jitter, vF0, vAm, Shimmer, NHR, and VTI were significantly decreased. F0 was increased after voice therapy for women. 'Grade', 'Rough,' and 'Breathy' were significantly decreased in the GRBAS scale after voice therapy. In addition, K-VHI-10 and nodules size were significantly decreased. Conclusion VRM seems to be an effective voice therapy method in vocal nodules treatment. In VRM, especially, trial therapy is given motivation for vocal nodules treatments and self-practice has a continuous therapeutic effect in everyday life. VRM can be also applied to the voice therapy for other hyper-functional dysphonia.

Background and Objectives : Sulcus vocalis could be classified into type I, type IIa, and type IIb. There have been a little reports about voice quality and treatment results related with types of sulcus vocalis. The authors conducted an analysis of voice and treatment according to different types of sulcus vocalis. Materials and Methods : This study was based on a retrospective chart review. The sulcus types were classified into type I and type II. Objective and subjective voice assessments were analyzed. Patients were treated individually with voice therapy, percutaneous steroid injection, and injection laryngoplasty. Comparison was performed on the voice difference between type I group and type II group, and between pre-treatment and post-treatment of each types. Results : One hundred and one patients were enrolled into this study, and 49 patients were type I and 52 patients were type II. Type I group showed longer mean maximal phonation time (MPT) than type II group, although other voice parameters didn't show any difference between two groups. Even after the management, almost all of the voice parameters didn't show improvement except MPT of type II group. Conclusion:Although the type I sulcus has been known as a non-pathologic lesion, it can result in some degree of voice change and discomfort, and thus need an active management. In this study, voice therapy, percutaneous steroid injection, and injection laryngoplasty showed limited effect to the both types of sulcus vocalis. Further studies for management of sulcus vocalis were needed.

In the smart societies, such as the current unlike in the past, the voice that listeners will feel favor is changing through the development of ICT technologies and infrastructure. In other words, in the past, loud, intensive and fast voice is a favorite but now a new social and cultural situation that is changing them with ICT technologies. Now, this becomes one of the important things that we clarify 'Is it a voice that feels a favor?'. For this, in this paper, we identified what voice that listeners feel favor by applying ICT technologies. Studies were carried out to proceed largely divided into two categories. Firstly, as the quantified data, we extracted the impact on favorable feeling of listeners which related with emotional speech by empirical analysis work. To do this, we performed the experiment for the public. Secondly, we identified what kind of voice which listeners feel a good impression. For this, we identified voice characteristics that there are people who are influential in the real society. Also, we extracted both the voice characteristics of each influential people and common voice characteristics. In addition, we want to overcome the problems of qualitative methods that have originally limitations in objective respects which is significant to the voice analysis. For this, we performed the experiments of the voice analysis by numerical and visual approaches.

Background and Objectives : Hormonal treatments which have an androgenic effect have the potential to cause vocal changes. The changes in vocal fold structure and voice quality are considered to be irreversible. To date, studies have documeted subjective vocal changes or documented single cases without detailed, baseline voice assessments. Materials and Methods : We have performed objective voice analyses of 20 women who were treated with androgenic hormones for endometriosis and compared the results with those of normal control women. Results : The averages of fundamental frequency were 194.7${\pm}$28.2 in study group, 207.0${\pm}$14.1 in control group. The means of closed quotient which were measured with electroglottography were 45.13${\pm}$2.06 in study group, 45.1${\pm}$3.03 in control group. Results of acoustic analysis are as follows. The averages of jitter were 0.95${\pm}$0.46 in study group, 1.10${\pm}$0.65 in control group. The means of shimmer were 2.44${\pm}$0.60 in study group, 2.32${\pm}$1.09 in control group. The averages of noise to harmonic ratio were 0.13${\pm}$0.028 in study group, 0.15$\pm$0.18 in control group. Conclusion : Although there were no statistically meaningful differences between the two groups, we could detect the masculinizing tendency of the therapeutic hormones of endomentriosiss(lowering of fundamental frequency). Given the availability of objective voice assessments today and the continued use of these potent hormones, comprehensive voice assessment and vocal monitoring would appear vital for women commencing hormonal treatment.

To determine what is the change of pre and postoperative voice and image analysis parameters and correlations between them, videostroboscopy was analyzed in each 18 patients with unilateral vocal cord paralyses or vocal polyps before and after the surgery from November, 1996 to April, 1999. The correlation between acoustic and aerodynamic parameters was investigated. The software-Videolink and $\pi$-View(Mediface Co, Seoul, Korea)-was used in a quantitative analysis. In unilateral vocal cord paralysis, the glottic angle is well correlated with maximum phonation time, jitter and shimmer preoperatively. The postoperative glottic angle is also correlated with preoperative maximum phonation time. In patients with the vocal polyp, the chink is postoperatively decreased, but the size of the chink and the polyp is not correlated with pre and postoperative voice analysis parameters. These findings reveal that glottic an and vocal fold angle are good indicators of e postoperative glottic configuration in unilateral vocal cord paralysis. Vocal fold ratio is also a useful indicator that represents the length of vocal folds. We consider that the computerized analysis through videostroboscopy is one of objective diagnostic methods in many voice disorders if we can measure a distance between the telelaryngoscope and vocal folds.
The present study was performed to find efficient and useful length of voice sample for MDVP analysis, by investigating the correlation between perceptual GRBAS scales and objective MDVP measurements, with the five different lengths of voices of 20 patients with vocal polyp: 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, 2.5 seconds. The results are following: (1) 1.5-second sample of MDVP showed the highest correlation between the perceptual judgement and objective measurement, and 1.0-second sample showed the lowest. The difference between the two samples was found in the number of the statistically significant correlated pairs of MDVP parameter-GRBAS scale. (2) The two extreme edges of the lengths, 0.5-second and 2.5 second showed no statistically significant difference.

Background and Objectives Voice evaluation is classified into subjective tests such as auditory perception and self-measurement, and objective tests such as acoustic and aerodynamic analysis. When evaluating dysphonia, subjective and objective test results do not always match. The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between subjective and objective evaluation in patients with dysphonia and to identify meaningful parameters by disease. Materials and Method The total of 322 patients who visited voice clinic from May 2017 to May 2018 were included in this study. Laryngeal lesions were identified using stroboscopy. Pearson correlation test was performed to analyse correlation between subjective tests including GRBAS scale and voice handicap index, and objective tests including jitter, shimmer, noise to harmonic ratio (NHR), cepstral peak prominence (CPP), maximal phonation time (MPT), mean flow rate, and subglottic pressure. Results In vocal nodule and sulcus vocalis, among GRBAS system, grade and breathiness showed good correlation with CPP, and roughness showed good correlation with jitter or shimmer. In unilateral vocal cord paralysis (UVCP), grade and breathiness showed a very good correlation with CPP, and also good correlation with jitter, shimmer, NHR, and MPT. Also asthenia showed good correlation with CPP and MPT. Vocal polyp has a limited association with other diseases. Conclusion In patients with dysphonia, grade and breathiness showed good correlation with CPP, jitter, and shimmer, and reflect the state of voice change well especially in UVCP, CPP, and MPT.
