Unification of neural network with a hierarchical pattern recognition is presented for recognizing large set of objects. A two-step identification procedure is developed for pattern recognition: coarse and fine identification. The coarse identification is designed for finding a class of object while the fine identification procedure is to identify a specific object. During the training phase a course neural network is trained for clustering larger set of reference objects into a number of groups. For training a fine neural network, expert neural network is also trained to identify a specific object within a group. The presented idea can be interpreted as two step identification. Experimental results are given to verify the proposed methodology.
In this study, 3-D underwater object recognition using ultrasonic sensor fabricated with porous PZT-polymer 3-3 composites and SCL neural networks are presented. The recognition rates for the training data and the testing dara were 100 and 94.6% respectively.

The object recognition mechanism of human being is not well understood yet. On research of animal experiment using an ape, however, neurons that respond to simple shape (e.g. circle, triangle, square and so on) were found. And Hypothesis has been set up as human being may recognize object as combination of such simple shapes. That mechanism is called Figure Alphabet Hypothesis, and those simple shapes are called Figure Alphabet. As one way to research object recognition algorithm, we focused attention to this Figure Alphabet Hypothesis. Getting idea from it, we proposed the feature extraction algorithm for object recognition. In this paper, we described recognition of binarized images of multifont alphabet characters by the recognition model which combined three-layered neural network in the feature extraction algorithm. First of all, we calculated the difference between the learning image data set and the template by the feature extraction algorithm. The computed finite difference is a feature quantity of the feature extraction algorithm. We had it input the feature quantity to the neural network model and learn by backpropagation (BP method). We had the recognition model recognize the unknown image data set and found the correct answer rate. To estimate the performance of the contriving recognition model, we had the unknown image data set recognized by a conventional neural network. As a result, the contriving recognition model showed a higher correct answer rate than a conventional neural network model. Therefore the validity of the contriving recognition model could be proved. We'll plan the research a recognition of natural image by the contriving recognition model in the future.
Methods of Object recognition from camera image are to compare features of color. edge or pattern with model in a general way. SIFT(scale-invariant feature transform) has good performance but that has high complexity of computation. Using simple color histogram has low complexity. but low performance. In this paper we represent a model as a color cooccurrence histogram. and we improve performance using pyramid matching. The color cooccurrence histogram keeps track of the number of pairs of certain colored pixels that occur at certain separation distances in image space. The color cooccurrence histogram adds geometric information to the normal color histogram. We suggest object recognition by pyramid matching of color cooccurrence histogram.

In this paper, we propose an adaptive classifier based on uncertainty of features for 3D planar object recognition. First, we investigate the uncertainty of depth information and the feature values of 3D planar object by numerical method. And, we observed that the statistical behavior of feature is dependent on the position and orientation of objects. After that, the approximation of the statistical behavior is executed. Subsequently, the recognition procedure is executed by the adaptive classifier. By computer simulation, we confirmed that the proposed classifier is useful for 3D planar object recognition.
Recently, self-driving research has been actively studied in various institutions. Accurate recognition is important because information about surrounding objects is needed for safe autonomous driving. This study mainly deals with the signal processing of LiDAR among sensors for object recognition. LiDAR is a sensor that is widely used for high recognition accuracy. First, we clustered and tracked objects by predicting relative position and speed of objects. The characteristic points of all objects were extracted using point cloud data of each objects through proposed algorithm. The Classification between vehicle and pedestrians is estimated using number of characteristic points and distances among characteristic points. The algorithm for classifying cars and pedestrians was implemented and verified using test vehicle equipped with LiDAR sensors. The accuracy of proposed object classification algorithm was about 97%. The classification accuracy was improved by about 13.5% compared with deep learning based algorithm.

The core technology of augmented reality is object recognition technology. Recently, due to the development of various artificial intelligence algorithms such as CNN, it has become possible to effectively distinguish specific objects from images. It is possible to realize more realistic and immersive augmented reality contents only when technology for recognizing objects quickly and accurately is secured. In this study, an object recognition model using SSD (single shot multibox detector) and an object recognition model using YOLO were compared and evaluated.

In this paper, we propose an object recognition system that can effectively find out its category, its instance name, and several attributes from the color and depth images of an object with hierarchical feature learning. In the preprocessing stage, our system transforms the depth images of the object into the surface normal vectors, which can represent the shape information of the object more precisely. In the feature learning stage, it extracts a set of patch features and image features from a pair of the color image and the surface normal vector through two-layered learning. And then the system trains a set of independent classification models with a set of labeled feature vectors and the SVM learning algorithm. Through experiments with UW RGB-D Object Dataset, we verify the performance of the proposed object recognition system.
We proposed a novel method for object recognition using the Smart tag system in the previous research. We identified the object easily, but could not assure the object pose, because the threshold problem was not solved. So we propose a new method to solve this threshold problem. This method uses a smart tag to decide the threshold by recording color information of the image when the object feature is extracted. This method records the original of the object color information at the smart tag first. And then it records the object image information, the circumstance image information and the sensors information continuously when the object feature is extracted through the experiments. Finally, it estimates the current threshold by recorded information. This method can be applied the threshold to each objects. And it can solve the difficult threshold decision problem easily. To approve the possibility of our method, we implemented our approach by using easy and simple techniques as possible.
