12주간 걷기운동이 중년여성의 신체조성과 건강체력에 미치는 영향 (The Effects of 12 Weeks of Walking Exercise on Body Composition and Physical Fitness in Middle Aged Women)

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to examine the effects of walking exercise training on body composition and physical fitness in middle aged women. Method: The subjects were randomly assigned into an obese walking exercise training group (n=21), a non-obese walking exercise training group (n=9), or a control group (n=10). The women in the treatment groups were then subjected to brisk walking at 50~70% of maximum heart rate twice a week for 12 weeks. The results were then analyzed by repeated measures ANOVA using SPSS 12.0 for windows. Results: Body weight, BMI, % body fat, and WC were not significantly improved in the obese walking exercise training group and the non-obese walking exercise training group. However, muscular flexibility and muscular endurance were significantly improved in each of these groups (p<.05). Conclusion: These results indicate that 12 weeks of walking exercise training enhanced physical fitness. However, the treatment in this study did not improve the body composition of middle aged women.

발아 생식을 이용한 비만개선 효과에 관한 연구 (Effect of Improve Obesity with Sprout Raw Grains and Vegetables)

  • 종합병원에 근무하는 여자직원들을 대상으로 건강한 사람 11명과 체질량지수 25이상인 7명을 선정하여 4주간의 발아생식을 섭취한 후 인체 계측과 혈당, 혈청 지방질 변화를 보기 위해 triglycerides, total-cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol을 측정하여 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다. 1. 4주간 발아생식을 섭취한 후 비비만군의 평균체중은 54.2kg에서 51.7kg으로 (P<0.001) 비만군은 평균체중 69.1kg에서 65.6kg으로 (P<0.001) 모두 유의적 감소율을 보였다. 2. 피하지방 두께 변화는 삼두박근의 경우 비비만군에서 21.6mm에서 19.95mm로, 비만군에서도 35.4 mm에서 32.1mm로 모두에서 유의적인 감소를 보였다. (P<0.01, P<0.05) 또한 신체둘레에 있어서는 허리둘레가 비비만군이 69.7cm에서 66.8 cm로 현저히 감소하였고(P<0.0001)비비만군도 84.2cm에서 80cm로 감소하여 유의성을 보여 (P< 0.017), 발아생식은 복부비만자에게 효과가 있다고 생각된다. 3. 비만군, 비비만군 모두 혈당, triglycerides, total cholesterol의 감소를 가져왔고, HDL-cholesterol은 비비만군에서 3.3%, 비만군에서 5.8%의 상승을 보였다. 이상의 결과에서 4주간 발아생식을 섭취한 후에 체중과 피하지방 두께의 감소, 혈당 및 혈청지방질 성분이 개선된 것을 볼 수 있었다. 발아생식 제품은 고른 영양소를 함유하여 일상생활에 무리를 주지 않는 범위내에서 체중감량과 혈액 조성이 이상적으로 유도되어 감을 보여주는 다이어트식이임을 알 수 있었다. 이는 비만으로 동반될 수 있는 당뇨병이나 동맥경화, 심장병, 고혈압, 통풍 등 혈액질환이나 고지혈증과 같은 만성적인 부작용까지도 극복하고 개선될 수 있는 새로운 비만개선 식이로써 좀더 안전하고 효율적인 다이어트를 위한 식품의 개발에 활용될 것을 기대한다. 특히 발아생식을 실시했을 때 복부 비만자에게서 허리둘레. 엉덩이둘레가 현저히 감소되었다.

Some Environmental Factors Associated with Obesity in Women Attending A Physical Fitness Program in the Ulsan Area

  • A sample of 450 women who attended a physical fitness program in the Ulsan area was selected to study some environmental factors associated with obesity. The women were grouped into two categories, obese and nonobese, based on body mass index(kg/$m^2$). Average BMI of the total subjects was 24.3$\pm$4.8, but 34.7% of the subjects rated equal to or ore than 25 type, which can be considered as obese. The results showed that age, employment status, family type, and food frequency score have a statistically significant association with obesity. However, education level, nutrition knowledge, availability of housemaids, family history of obesity, and house type are not related to obesity . There were no differences in sources of nutrition information between the obese and the nonobese. The above results suggest that health education programs should consider environmental factors as well as health factors in preventing obesity obesity in the community.

The Comparison of Korean and Japanese College Women's Self-evaluation on Obesity and Attitude to Weight Control

  • This study compares Korean and Japanese college women's self-evaluation on obesity and examines their attitude to weight control. The subjects of this study were 101 college women residing in Daegu-si of Korea and 123 Japanese college women living in Saga-ken of Japan. A survey was conducted by each of the participants and was analyzed. This self-evaluation on obesity revealed that 47.5% of Korean college women answered that they were obese while 31.7% of Japanese college women responded they were. The results of this study show that there are about 5% of college women in both Japan and Korea who thought they were obese, even though they were actually normal or underweight. Both Korean and Japanese women who considered themselves obese selected wrong eating habits as the cause of their obesity. In terms of their recognition on ashamedness, Japanese college women showed rather stronger recognition than Korean ones. In addition, more Korean college women responded that they had been suggested to lose weight than Japanese ones. In terms of the factors that motivate weight control, few women in either Korea or Japan controlled their weight for health reasons. Most of the Korean and Japanese college women chose the size of their clothes, their undesirable look reflected on the mirror, or having no boyfriend as the chief motivating factors for weight control. In terms of their attitude towards weight control, Japanese college women checked their weight more frequently than Korean ones. Moreover, both Korean and Japanese college women were directly motivated to lose weight while they were talking with their friends.

규칙적인 생식섭취가 고지혈증 환자의 영양소 섭취상태, 체지방 및 혈청의 지질조성에 미치는 영향 (The Effects of Uncooked Powdered Food on Nutrient Intake, Body Fat and Serum Lipid Compositions in Hyperlipidemic Patients)

  • This study was designed to investigate the effects of weight reduction and changes in serum lipid composition using a commercial uncooked powdered food (UPF) diet on 27 obese hyperlipidemic women over a period of 12 weeks. We replaced the standard breakfast and dinner of each of the subjects with UPF. Their dietary intake status was evaluated by 24-hour recall method. Their body compositions were measured using a body fat analyzer. Also, we conducted hematological, clinical and lipid profile analyses of their blood. Their intake of energy, lipid and protein significantly decreased as the subjects started to take UPF, but their intake of vitamins and minerals, other than iron, increased. Due to the energy intake decrease, the subjects' weight, body fat and waist circumference significantly decreased. Among the lost weight the percentage of the body fat was high. We judged that this process of losing weight was successful in obese hyperlipidemic women. Serum HDL-cholesterol gradually increased and serum total-cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, triglyceride levels showed gradual decreases. When obese hyperlipidemic women replaced two of three meals with UPF for 3 months, we were able to see useful changes like decreased body fat and serum lipid. Complete judgment on the usefulness of UPF may be difficult but if people take a standard meal once a day and replenish their iron by taking UPF twice a day, we assume that replacing UPF with balanced regular meal not be a problem in nutritional status. Our results show that UPF is effective in the diet therapy of obese hyperlipidemic women.

Comparative Study on the Effects of Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation and Elastic Band Exercise on the Physical Function and Blood Lipid Levels of Obese Elderly Women

  • The effects of Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF) and elastic band exercise on the physical functions and blood lipids of obese elderly women were investigated. The experimental group ($n_1=16$) patients underwent PNF for 12 weeks, and the control group ($n_2=15$) patients performed elastic band exercises. SPSS 21.0 was used to compute the means and standard deviations. After the 12-week PNF, both the experimental and control groups showed statistically significant differences in the physical functions (cardiovascular endurance, strength of the lower extremity, muscular endurance, flexibility, balance, and agility) (p<.05), but the difference in the experimental group was more significant than that in the control group (p<.05). In terms of the changes in the blood lipid levels (total cholesterol, triglycerides, high-density lipoprotein, and low-density lipoprotein), the experimental group showed significant changes (p<.05). In conclusion, PNF was confirmed as more effective than elastic band exercise in improving the physical functions and blood lipid levels of obese elderly women.

남녀 대학생의 체질량지수에 따른 저작횟수와 식사속도 및 식품섭취량 비교 (The Relationships of Chewing Frequency, Eating Rates, and Food Consumption with the Body Mass Index and Gender of College Students)

  • In this study, we examined chewing frequency, eating rates, and food consumption volume according to the body mass index of male and female college students. Twenty-five male college students were divided into a normal weight male group (<23 body mass index, n=14) and an obese male group (${\geq}23$ body mass index, n=11). Twenty-five female college students were divided into a normal weight female group (<23 body mass index, n=21) and an obese female group (${\geq}23$ body mass index, n=4). Subjects were provided with abundant fried rice and allowed to consume it at their own pace. Chewing frequency, total mealtime, rate of eating, consumption volume, calorie intake, and the amount of one bite were measured. There were no significant differences in chewing frequency, total mealtime, rate of eating, consumption volume, calorie intake, and the amount of one bite between the normal and obese male groups. There were also no significant differences in chewing frequency, consumption volume, calorie intake, and the amount of one bite between the normal and obese female groups. However, the obese female group had a significantly shorter mealtime and significantly higher eating rate compared with the normal group. Thus, our study suggests that females who eat a meal for a longer time may reduce their food intake, consequently inducing body weight loss.

성인 여성의 비만이 폐기능에 미치는 영향 - 체질량지수와 허리둘레 기준 - (Effects of Obesity on Pulmonary Function in Adult Women)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the impact of body mass index (BMI) and waist circumference (WC) for pulmonary function in normal-weight and obese women. Methods: Data from women aged ${\geq}40$ years were obtained from the 2011 Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. Obesity was measured by BMI and WC and pulmonary function was measured by forced vital capacity (FVC), forced expiratory volume in 1 second ($FEV_1$), and a ratio between forced expiratory volume in 1 second ($FEV_1$/FVC). Multiple linear regression analysis was performed for assessment of the association between FVC, $FEV_1$, $FEV_1$/FVC and obesity variables. Results: BMI showed positive association with FVC, $FEV_1$, $FEV_1$/FVC, and WC showed positive association with $FEV_1$ and $FEV_1$/FVC in normal-weight women. BMI and WC showed negative association with FVC, $FEV_1$ in obese women. A 1 unit increase in BMI showed an association with a 25-mL reduction in FVC and a 19-mL reduction in $FEV_1$. A 1-cm increase in WC showed an association with a 6-mL reduction in FVC and a 4-mL reduction in $FEV_1$. Conclusions: BMI and WC showed negative association with pulmonary function in obese adult women. Therefore, obese women with reduced pulmonary function should be encouraged to lose weight for improvement of their pulmonary function.

정상체중인과 비만인의 음료와 컵 색상에 따른 인지량의 차이에 관한 연구 (Difference in Volume Perception According to Beverage or Cup Color in Normal Weight and Obese College Students)

  • We examined the perception of volume in college students with a normal weight versus those students with obesity. College students were divided into a normal weight group (<23 body mass index, n=121) and an obese group (${\geq}23$ body mass index, n=110), The perception of volume was measured under different beverage colors (colorless, black, yellow, and blue) and cup colors (colorless, black, yellow, and blue) containing the same amount of liquid (150 ml). We found that the normal weight group perceived significantly more liquid in a cup with a blue beverage versus a colorless one. The obese group perceived significantly more liquid in a cup with a yellow or blue beverage versus a colorless one. In terms of cup color, the normal weight group perceived significantly more liquid in a black color cup compared to a blue color cup. However, there were no differences in perceived volume according to the color of cup among the obese group. There were no significant differences in the perceived volume between the normal and obese group under all conditions tested. In conclusion, beverage and cup color effects volume perception in normal weight students, while only beverage color effects volume perception in obese students. Therefore, controlling, the color of beverages and cups may help to control the consumption of drinks.

비만아동의 식습관 및 영양섭취상태와 골밀도와의 관련성 연구 (Relation among Dietary Habits, Nutrient Intakes and Bone Mineral Density in Korean Normal and Obese Elementary Students)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the relation between bone mineral density and nutrient intake among normal and obese elementary students. Each subject was assigned to one of such as normal (n = 69) and obese groups (n = 94) according to their obesity indices. And they were asked for general characteristics, dietary habits and nutrient intakes using questionnaires and 24-hr recall method. They measured the sound of speed (SOS) of calcaneus using quantitative ultrasound. The averages age of the subjects were 10.6 years in normal and 10.7 years in obese group. The averages weight (p < 0.001) and obesity index (p < 0.001) of the normal group were significantly lower than those of the obese group. In dietary habits, the obese group in boys was the higher skipped breakfast than normal group (p < 0.01). The plant calcium intake of obesity in girls was lower than those of normal group (p < 0.05). The SOS in the calcaneus was 1697.6 m/s in the obese group and 1763.7 m/s in the normal group (p < 0.01). The SOS in the calcaneus was negatively correlated to weight (p < 0.01), obesity index (p < 0.001) and percent of body fat (p < 0.01). Also the SOS in the calcaneus was positively correlated plant calcium intake (p < 0.05). In conclusion, the excessive increase of weight and percent of body fat in elementary students appeared to have negative impact to bone health. And based on these results, further studies on the effects on bone mineral density of obese and nutrient intakes in needed for proper bone health.
