  • Purpose : The expectations are defined as desired expectations in initial SERVQUAL scale(1985, 1988), but in modified SERVQUAL scale(1991), are defined as a feasible ideal point expectations. In assessment of nursing service quality by SERVQUAL scale, the definitions of expectations is important problem. The purpose of this study was to compare the feasible ideal point expectations with the desired expectations in assessment of nursing service quality using SERVQUAL scale. Methods : The subjects were 256 inpatients at 4 general hospitals in Jeju-do(123 for feasible ideal point and 133 for desired). The data were collected by two types of self-reporting questionnaires to measure the feasible ideal point and desired expectations. For data analysis, t-test, multiple regression, and comparative analysis of multiple Rs via Fishers Z transformation. Results : Compared with the SERVQUAL scores, the feasible ideal point expectations better explained the variations of the overall consumer satisfaction($R^2$=O.33) than the desired($R^2$=O.25). Conclusion : The feasible ideal point expectations were more suitable to the assessment of nursing service quality using SERVQUAL scale. It will be need to explore the conceptual definitions of expectations using SERVQUAL scale in different settings. Also, further study needs to be conducted to compare alternative service quality measurement scales.

  • This study, based on current home nursing services, aims at promoting measures for establishing a community-based home nursing system derived from the pilot home nursing demonstration project conducted by the Seoul Nurses Association. The study was based on an analysis of home nursing records from march 1993 to December 1999. The following is a summary analysis, based on individual characteristics of the patients, the organization, which recommended the service for their patients and personnel services. 1. The service has been used by many elderly people 60years of age or older(66.4%). and married people(60.9%). The average number of visits by service personnel for patients of city government was 23.5. This is 2.5 times as many visits by general patients. General patients(20.2%) had only one visit from service personnel, while 65.5% of patients of city government had 10 or more visits. Particularly, for government recommended patients, 72.7% of the patients were recommended by nurses, while only 21.9% where referred to the services by doctors. The main focus of a home nursing service was to maintain present health status (53.4%), and hospice(11.6%). Also to increase hospital-based home nursing services focused on recovery(55.9%) and maintain present health conditions (19.0%). 2. For general patients, 42.0% of patients were suffering from problems related to CVA, 11.3% from high blood pressure, and for patients referred from city, 21.2% from skeletal muscular disease. Results of home nursing services 29.4% of patients were able to recover or maintain their health status, but 48.9% of the patients died. Another main point of community-based home nursing services is medication(6.7%), other basic nursing services(6.1%), special treatment, instructions on how to use medical devices(5.9%), change of physical posture(4.6%), and training on changing physical positions(4.7%). As mentioned above there were some differences between the characteristics of patients who used the pilot home nursing service conducted by the Seoul Nurses Association and those hospital-based service users. The results are believed to be useful to support a community-based home nursing service model. Particularly, patients under medical supervision and patients recommended by government-run health clinics show a higher frequency and longer use of home nursing services compared to general patients or hospital-based home nursing service users. According to the study, nurses accounted for a large number of recommendations for home nursing services. Many patients with CVA, high blood pressure, skeletal muscular disease and bedsores used community-based home nursing services, while others used the service for minor treatments or maintaining their current health status. Based on the study, the researchers make several suggestions to establish a community- based home nursing service system. First, different ways of setting up a community-based home nursing system have to be mapped out based on the evaluation of the pilot home nursing service conducted by the Seoul Nurses Association. Secondly, a new, community-based, home health care nursing service model, and reimbursement payment system have to be developed. This is based on the outcome of the analysis, and implemented policy. Accordingly, efforts are needed to develop a community- based home nursing system with an intermediary role to promote the visiting nursing services of government-run health centers.

Methods: A methodological study was conducted. A total of 237 nurses working at comprehensive nursing care service wards in a general hospital participated in this study. The scale was developed through literature reviews, in-depth interview, development of preliminary items, verification of content validity, development of secondary items, evaluation of construct validity, and extraction of final items. Analysis included exploratory factor analysis, pearson's analysis, and reliability analysis using cronbach's α. Results: The education nurse specialist-led educational satisfaction scale for nurses working at comprehensive nursing care service ward consisted of 21 items. Two factors (critical thinking disposition and clinical competency) were identified which explained 63.5% of the total variance. Cronbach's α of each factors were >.95. Conclusion: The results suggested that the education nurse specialist-led educational satisfaction scale for nurses working at comprehensive nursing care service wards demonstrated acceptable validity and reliability. Items of the instrument can assess the level of satisfaction with regards to education led by education nurse specialist among nurses working at comprehensive nursing care service wards.

The criteria of the developed questionnaire was consisted of two aspects, one was recognizant aspect of service and the other was behavioral aspect of service. The reliability of the questionnaire was Chronbach's $\alpha$=0.778. The questionnaire was exammed collected in the morning when the education of the service was started and two weeks after the education. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, paired T-test, Pearson's correlations. The result of the study are as follows : 1. There was a significant difference in the aspect of recognition of service between pre and post self-evaluation. 2. There was no significant difference in the aspect of behavior service between pre and post self-evaluation. 3. There was a significant difference in the aspect of total sense, score between pre & post self-evaluation. 4. There was a significant correlation between clinical experience and aspect of recognition of service. The positive correlation was shown in the longer clinical experience between nurse's role and service. But there was not a statistically significant correlation between clinical experience and aspect of behavior of service. Methods: This is a descriptive study. A self-administered questionnaire survey was conducted on 288 nursing students of E university and data was collected and analyzed using the SPSS program. Results: The average scores for the expected frequency of performance and the importance in nursing practice of total care service were $4.07{\pm}0.58$ and $4.00{\pm}0.50$ respectively. The expected frequency of performance was found to have a significantly positive correlation with the importance in nursing practice. Additionally, the factors that influenced the degree of recognition in the expected frequency of performance and the importance in nursing practice of total care service among nursing students were comfortable care and respiratory care, respectively. Conclusion: The major finding of this study shows a significantly positive correlation between the expected frequency of performance and the importance in nursing practice. These results suggest that effective and systematic education is needed on factors affecting the expected frequency of performance and the importance in nursing practice for nursing college students.
