  • Six African rice varieties, two each from three types having the characteristics of partially, irregularly, and completely developed abscission layers, were selected and grown 1) to investi-gate the histological differences during the formation and development of the abscission layers and 2) to evaluate the changes in the breaking tensile strength required to detach a grain from its pedicel dur-ing ripening period in relation with developmental stage of the abscission layers. In African rice, the panicle and spikelet grew rapidly from 15 days before heading and almost completely grown in length at five days before heading. The abscission regions were recognized at 15 days before heading. However, any apparently developed abscission layers were not recognized in the lemma side for partially developed abscission layers. A group of parenchymatous cells could be observed sporadically in the abscission layers of the lemma side for irregularly developed ab-scission layers. At ten days before heading, abscission layers consisting of one or two layers of parenchymatous cells were clearly distinguished from neighboring cells due to thickened and lignified cell walls. There were a number of individual parenchymatous cells scattered sporadically in the lemma side of partially developed abscission layers, and a number of grouped parenchymatous cells scattered randomly in the lemma side of irregularly developed abscission layers. At two weeks after heading, the grains became almost fully filled. The cracking of abscission layers between rachilla and pedicel was observed, and the breaking tensile strength required to detach a grain from its pedicel was as low as that at harvest time.

  • Since the air permeabilities are closely connected with clothing hygiene, air permeabilities required to optimize dressing were studied and measured the air permeabilities that take air layers among fabrics into account. The thickness of air layers were controlled from 3mm to 24mm, and the numbers of air layers were made from one layer to three layers. The samples used were selected in casual wears in spring and autumn. The results obtained are as follows; 1. Specific air permeabilities of superimposed fabrics decreased gradually according to the increase of superimposed number. 2. Specific air permeabilities of the same kind of fabrics increased at first and later decreased by the increase of intervals when the fabrics are superimposed at regular intervals, and those of the different kind of fabrics decreased. 3. Specific air permeabilities of the different kind of fabrics decreased to the 18mm of total thickness in air layers and increased later.

  • This research examined the technical feasibility of composite that had two layers of fiberglass reinforcement to enhance the load carrying capacity of lumber. Specimens were prepared from standard lumber made of thinning crop trees such as Larix kaempferi, Pinus koraiensis, and P. rigida. Results indicated that bending properties, hardness, and wood screw withdrawal load of low density lumber from the P. koraiensis increased as the number of layers of fiberglass reinforcement increased. Composite produced by VARTM method showed the MOE increased in all specimens, while the MOR differed on the location, whether the 2-layers of FRP is put on tensile zone or compressive zone. The MOR of high density lumber from Larix kaempferi and P. rigida decreased when they placed into tensile zone, but low density lumber from P. koraiensis increased in same location. The bending toughness only increased high density lumber of Larix kaempferi as the number of layers of fiberglass reinforcement increased. The technique developed by this study may increase an opportunity to use small diameter log with low density for commercial purposes.

  • We give pressure stimulation into long chain fatty acid of LB thin films then manufacture a device under the accumulation condition that the state surface pressure is 20[mN/m]. In processing of a device manufacture, we can see the process is good from the change of a surface pressure for organic thin films and transfer ratio of area per molecule. The structure of manufactured device is Au/Arachidic acid/Al, the number of accumulated layers are 13, 17 and 19. The I-V characteristic of the device is measured from 0[V] to +1.5[V]. We have investigated the capacitance because this fatty acid system have a accumulated layers. The maximum value of measured current is increased as the number of accumulated layers are decreased. The capacitor properties of a thin film is better as the distance between electrodes is smaller. The results have shown the insulating materials and could control the conductivity by accumulated layers.

  • Natural clays are composed of oxide layers whose thickness is about 1nm and cations existing between the layers. A number of these layers makes primary particles with a height of about 8∼10nm and these primary particles make aggregates with a size of about 0.1∼10$\mu\textrm{m}$. When layered silicate was made to be organophilic, by exchanging the interlayer cations with organic cationic molecules, the matrix polymer can penetrate between the layers to give a nanocomposite, where 1nm-scal clay layers exist separately in a continuous polymer matrix. These nanostructured hybrid organic-inorganic composites have attracted the great interest of researchers over the last 10 years. They exhibit improved performance properties compared with conventional composites, because their unique phase morphology by layer intercalation or exfoliation maximizes interfacial contact between the organic and inorganic phases and enhances interfacial properties. Since the advent of nylon-6/montmorillonite nanocomposite developed by Toyota Motor Co., the studies on layered silicate-polymer nanocomposites have been successfully extended to other polymer systems. They greatly improved the thermal, mechanical, barrier, and even the flame-retardant properties of the polymers.

  • This study presented the reinforcing effect of sands by using newly devised 3D Tirecell. Plate loading tests for sand were conducted for different relative density and number of reinforced layers. From the tests, the ultimate bearing capacity of reinforced sand increased with increasing relative densities. The effect of reinforced layers with 0.4B interval is limited to 2 layers and further reinforcing effects can not be obtained beyond 3 layers. Especially the bearing capacity increased remarkably at 1 layer of Tirecell reinforcement and the degree of increase was small for 1 layer to 2 layers increase of reinforcement. Test results show that the reinforcing effect of Tirecell is prominent compared with commercial geocell in the literature.

  • We give pressure stimulation into organic thin films and detect the induced displacement current. then manufacture a device under the accumulation condition that the state surface pressure is 15[mN/m]. In processing of a device manufacture. We can see the process is good from the change of a surface pressure for organic thin films and transfer ratio of area per molecule. The structure of manufactured device is Au/organic thin films(polyimide)/Au, the number of accumulated layers are 31,35, and 41. I-V characteristic of the device is measured from 0[V] to +5[V]. The maximum value of measured current is increased as the number of accumulated layers are decreased. The resistance for the number of accumulated layers, the energy density for an input voltage show desired results, and the insulation of a thin film is better as the interval between electrodes is larger.

  • This paper presents the strengthening of tubular joint by wrapping Carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) and glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP). In this study, total number of layers, stacking sequence and length of wrapping are the different parameters involved when fiber reinforced polymers (FRP) composites are used for strengthening. For this, parameters where varied and results were compared with the reference joint. The best stacking sequence was identified which has the highest value in ultimate load with lesser deflections. For determining the best stacking sequence, numerical investigation was performed on CFRP composites; length of wrapping and number of layers were fixed. Later, the studies were focused on CFRP and GFRP strengthened joint by varying the total number of layers and length of wrapping. An attempt was done to propose a parametric equation from multiple regression analysis, which can be used for CFRP strengthened joints. Hashin failure criteria was used to check the failure of composites. Results revealed that FRP was having a greater influence in the load bearing capacity of joints, and in reducing the deflections and stresses of joint under axial compressive loads. It was also seen that, CFRP was far better than GFRP in reducing the stresses and deflection.

  • In this study, an algorithm applying deep learning to the truss structures was proposed. Deep learning is a method of raising the accuracy of machine learning by creating a neural networks in a computer. Neural networks consist of input layers, hidden layers and output layers. Numerous studies have focused on the introduction of neural networks and performed under limited examples and conditions, but this study focused on two- and three-dimensional truss structures to prove the effectiveness of algorithms. and the training phase was divided into training model based on the dataset size and epochs. At these case, a specific data value was selected and the error rate was shown by comparing the actual data value with the predicted value, and the error rate decreases as the data set and the number of hidden layers increases. In consequence, it showed that it is possible to predict the result quickly and accurately without using a numerical analysis program when applying the deep learning technique to the field of structural analysis.
