It has been known that RA, one of major constituents of Perilla frutescens which has been used as a traditional folk remedy for sedation in oriental countries, shows the anxiolytic-like and sedative effects. This study was performed to know whether RA may enhance pentobarbital-induced sleep through ${\gamma}-aminobutyric$ acid $(GABA)_A-ergic$ systems in rodents. RA (0.5, 1.0 and 2.0 mg/kg, p.o.) reduced the locomotor activity in mice. RA decreased sleep latency and increased the total sleep time in pentobarbital (42 mg/kg, i.p.)-induced sleeping mice. RA also increased sleeping time and number of falling sleep mice after treatment with sub-hypnotic pentobarbital (28 mg/kg, i.p.). In electroencephalogram (EEG) recording, RA (2.0 mg/kg) not only decreased the counts of sleep/wake cycles and REM sleep, but also increased the total and NREM sleep in rats. The power density of NREM sleep showed the increase in ${\delta}-waves$ and the decrease in ${\alpha}-waves$. On the other hand, RA (0.1, 1.0 and $10{\mu}g/ml$) increased intracellular $Cl^-$ influx in the primary cultured hypothalamic cells of rats. RA (p.o.) increased the protein expression of glutamic acid decarboxylase ($GAD_{65/67}$) and $GABA_A$ receptors subunits except ${\beta}1$ subunit. In conclusion, RA augmented pentobarbital-induced sleeping behaviors through $GABA_A-ergic$ transmission. Thus, it is suggested that RA may be useful for the treatment of insomnia.

The design of the stud shear connector of a bridge structure is mostly controlled by the fatigue resistance not by the strength, if it is followed by AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specification. This fatigue design code in AASHTO LRFD is based on the research work done by Slutter and Fisher in 1966. These tests seemingly underestimated the fatigue resistance of connectors because of the inherent eccentricity of the one-face test setup which results additional tension forces to the stud. In addition, the stress ranges were not plotted in the log scale, because it was not known at that time that the fatigue resistance of the welded steel structures has a linear relationship of log scales of stress range and number of loading cycles. This study evaluates the test data produced by the Slutter and Fischer, and plot the data on the proper manner. The fatigue push-out test data produced recently by many other researches all around the world are gathered and analyzed, furthermore a design curve is recommended.

Solar thermal reactor was studied for hydrogen production with a two step thermochemical cycle including T-R(Thermal Reduction) step and W-D(Water Decomposition) step. NiFe2O4 and Fe3O4 supported by monoclinic ZrO2 were used as a catalyst device and Ni powder was used for decreasing the T-R step reaction temperature. Maintaining a temperature level of about $1100^{\circ}C$ and $1400^{\circ}C$, for 2-step thermochemical reaction, is important for obtaining maximum performance of hydrogen production. The controller was designed for adjusting high temperature solar thermal energy heating the foam-device coated with nickel- ferrite powder. A Pill temperature control system was designed based on 2-step thermochemical reaction experiment data(measured concentrated solar radiation and the temperature of foam device during experiment). The cycle repeated 5 times, ferrite conversion rate are 4.49~29.97% and hydrogen production rate is 0.19~1.54mmol/g-ferrite. A temperature controller was designed for increasing the number of reaction cycles related with the amount of produced hydrogen.
Effects of recombinant bovine somatotropin (bST) on plasma hormonal concentration, embryo quality, and pregnancy rate were examined during the superovulation and synchronization treatment in donor and recipient cows. Hanwoos (Korean native beef cattle) were treated with controlled internal drug release (CIDR) combined with bST (CIDR+bST) or without bST (CIDR) as donor cows. The embryos recovered from donors were transferred into Holstein recipient heifers treated with bST (CIDR+bST) or without bST (CIDR) for synchronization. The correlation between IGF-I and P4 showed a positive pattern in the CIDR+bST group (r=0.44, p<0.01), but a negative pattern was shown in the CIDR group (r = -0.59, p<0.02) at day 7 of estrous cycles. Although the number of recovered, transferable, and degenerated embryos was not different, quantities of grade 1 (excellent) embryos in CIDR+bST group were significantly higher than those of the CIDR group (p<0.01). The pregnancy rate was higher in the CIDR+bST recipient group compared to CIDR group (p<0.05), when the embryos were recovered from the donors treated with CIDR. However, the pregnancy was maintained highly in both recipient groups, when the embryos were produced by CIDR+bST treated donors. It can be concluded that bST administration combined with CIDR is an effective method for superovulation and synchronization treatment to stabilize plasma hormonal levels, to obtain excellent quality of embryos, and to get higher pregnancy rate.

This study investigated the characteristics of fracture behavior and mode on solder joints before and after thermal shock test for automotive application component using Sn-3.0Ag-0.5Cu solder, which has a outstanding property as lead-free solder. The shear strength was decreased with thermal cycle number, after 432 cycles of thermal shock test. In addition, fracture mode was verified to ductile, brittle fracture and base materials fracture such as different kind fractured mode using SEM and EDS. Before the thermal shock, the fractured mode was found to typical ductile fracture in solder layer. After thermal shock test, especially, Ag was found on fractured portion as roughest surface. Moreover, it occurred delamination between a PCB and a Cu land. Before thermal shock test, most of fractured mode in solder layer has dimples by ductile fracture. However, after thermal shock test, the fractured mode became a combination of ductile and brittle fracture, and it also could find that the fracture behavior varied including delamination between substrate and Cu land.
An Remote Corrosion Monitoring (RCM) system consists of an anode with low potential, the metallic structures against corrosion, an electrode to provide reference potential, and a data-acquisition system to ensure the potential difference for anticorrosion. In more detail, the data-acquisition (DAQ) system monitors the potential difference between the metallic structures and a reference electrode to identify the correct potential level against the corrosion of the infrastructures. Then, the measured data are transmitted to a central office to remotely keep track of the status of the corrosion monitoring (CM) system. To date, the RCM system is designed to achieve low power consumption, so that it can be simply powered by batteries. However, due to memory effect and the limited number of recharge cycles, it can entail the maintenance fee or sometimes cause failure to protect the metallic structures. To address this issue, the low-overhead energy harvesting circuitry for the RCM systems has designed to replenish energy storage elements (ESEs) along with redeeming the leakage of supercapacitors. Our developed energy harvester can scavenge the ambient energy from the corrosion monitoring environments and store it as useful electrical energy for powering local data-acquisition systems. In particular, this paper considers the energy harvesting from potential difference due to galvanic corrosion between a metallic infrastructure and a permanent copper/copper sulfate reference electrode. In addition, supercapacitors are adopted as an ESE to compensate for or overcome the limitations of batteries. Experimental results show that our proposed harvesting schemes significantly reduce the overhead of the charging circuitry, which enable fully charging up to a 350-F supercapacitor under the low corrosion power of 3 mW (i.e., 1 V/3 mA).
In this study, the impact of sand and weathered granite soil is analyzed by changing the internal temperature from $20^{\circ}C{\sim}70^{\circ}C$C by installing a heating coil inside the triaxial cell. To check the effect on weathered granite soil due to increase of temperature and number of heating-coiling cycles are analyzed by measuring the temperature by using thermometer installed inside the triaxial cell and due to that deviator stress also occurred during the consolidated undrained test. To analyze the effect of weathered granite soil with change of temperature during undrained testing. The deviator stress and pore pressure is measured. As a result, pore pressure increases and the deviator stress decreases with rise of temperature.

Rotating bending fatigue tests of an authentic steel 304 were performed at various temperatures such as room temperature, $538^{\circ}$ and $593^{\circ}C$. The plastic replica method was also applied in order to estimate the fatigue life on the basis of serial observation of small fatigue crack initiation and growth on the pit specimen surface. The fatigue crack growth behavior of 304 stainless steel was investigated within the frame work of elastic-plastic fracture mechanics within a narrow scatterband in spite of different stress levels at elevated temperature as at room temperature. The growth law of small surface crack is determined uniquely by the term. $\DELTA\sigma^{n}a$ where $\DELTA\sigma$ is the stress amplitude, a is the crack length, and n is a constant. It is found that the small crack growth behavior is basically equivalent to the S-$N_{f}$ relationship, where S and $N_{f}$ are stress and number of cycles to failure, and the fatigue life prediction is in good agreement with the experimental results.
$LiNi_{1-y}M_{y}O_{2}(M=Zn^{2+},\;Al^{3+},\;and\;Ti^{4+},\;0.000\{\le}y{\le}0.100)$ were synthesized by the combustion method by calcining in $O_{2}$ stream at $750^{\circ}C$ for 36 h. XRD analyses, observation by FE-SEM and measurement of the variation of discharge capacity with the number of cycles were carried out. The composition $LiNi_{0.99}M_{0.01}O_{2}(M=Zn^{2+},\;Al^{3+},\;and\;Ti^{4+})$ of all the compositions showed relatively good electrochemical properties. $LiNi_{0.99}M_{0.01}O_{2}$ exhibited poor crystallinity and $LiNi_{0.99}M_{0.01}O_{2}$ showed the cation mixing of large fraction. $LiNi_{0.99}M_{0.01}O_{2}$ with improved cycling performance showed good crystallinity and the cation mixing of small fraction.

In this study, the wear characteristics of five different dental composite resins cured by conventional halogen light and LED light sources were investigated. Five different dental composite resins of Surefil, Z100, Dyract AP, Fuji II LC and Compoglass were worn against a zirconia ceramic ball using a pin-on-disk type wear tester with 15 N contact force in a reciprocal sliding motion of sliding distance of 10 mm/cycle at 1Hz under the room temperature dry condition. The wear variations of dental composite resins were linearly increased as the number of cycles increased. It was observed that the wear resistances of these specimens were in the order of Dyract AP > Surefil > Compoglass > Z100 > Fuji II LC. On the morphological observations by SEM, the large crack formation on the sliding track of Fuji ?LC specimen was the greatest among all resin composites. Dyract AP showed less wear with few surface damage. There is no significant difference in wear performance between conventional halogen light curing and light emitting diodes curing sources. It indicates that a light emitting diodes (LED) source can replace a halogen light source as curing unit for composite resin restorations.
