In this study, a numerical study was conducted to characterize the E-D nozzle which changes according to the nozzle pressure ratios. Three different numerical analysis models were designed by changing the pintle inflection angles. When the nozzle pressure ratio is low, the outside air flows into the E-D nozzle to form an open flow field. As the nozzle pressure ratio increases, the flow transition occurs to become the closed flow field where the recirculation region is isolated inside the nozzle. Also, the highest thrust coefficient was obtained in the analytical model with high pintle inflection angle at all nozzle pressure ratios.

The purpose of this work is to investigate the effect of properties of diesel and biodiesel fuels on the nozzle cavitation and the effect of the length/diameter(L/D) ratio on internal and external flow pattern of nozzle at the various injection conditions. In order to study the effect of the L/D ratio on the nozzle cavitation characteristics of diesel and biodiesel, the characteristics of cavitation flow in the nozzle are visualized and analyzed at the injection pressure of 0.1 MPa to 0.7 MPa by using the visualized images. It was founded that the cavitation was formed in the nozzle orifice at the low injection pressure and the breakup of the issuing liquid jet was promoted at the low L/D ratio. When the L/D ratio decrease, cavitation beginning and growth were affect by cavitation number and Reynolds number.
The prediction of the critical Reynolds number in the stability curie of liquid jet was mainly analyzed by the empirical correlations and the experimental data through the literature. The factors affecting the critical Reynolds number include Ohnesorge number, nozzle length-diameter ratio, ambient pressure and nozzle inlet type. The nozzle inlet type was divided into two groups according to the dependence of the critical Reynolds number on the length-to-diameter ratio of nozzle. The empirical correlations for the critical Reynolds number as a function of above factors mentioned are newly proposed.
This paper experimentally investigates the characteristics of dual coaxial jet issuing from inner supersonic nozzle and four kinds of outer converging nozzle of 40, 50, $60^{\circ}$ and $70^{\circ}$ in outer ejection angle. The pressure ratio of the stagnation to the exit ambient pressures in the inner supersonic nozzle of constant expansion rate is 7.5, which is corresponded to the condition of a slightly underexpanded, and that of outer nozzle is 4.0. Flow visualizations by using of shadowgraph method, impact pressure and centerline static pressure measurements are presented. It is found that the jet structure is changed significantly by the variation of outer nozzle ejection angle. Impact pressure level is lower and undulation of static pressure is higher, as the injection angle of outer jet increases.

In this study, determination method of initial optimal nozzle expansion in pintle rocket was investigated. The initial optimal initial nozzle expansion was decided by maximizing the mass-averaged thrust coefficient that is calculated from thrust coefficient of minimum and maximum chamber pressure. The determination of initial optimal initial nozzle expansion was equivalent to that of the minimum propellant mass which was required for obtaining the desired mission performance. The highest pressure, thrust turndown ratio and total impulse ratio effected on the initial optimal nozzle expansion. Among them, total impulse ratio had great influence on the initial optimal nozzle expansion.

In the modern propulsion systems, requited thrust is obtained using a nozzle. Sometimes shock and induced boundary layer separation is generated in an over-expanded convergent-divergent supersonic nozzle. It occurs because the nozzle expansion ratio is too large for a given nozzle pressure ratio (NPR). This phenomenon can be explained that it redefines effective nozzle geometry, shorer nozzle geometry and lower pressure ratio, in a given pressure ratio. Numerical studies were conducted about a fixed geometry 2D nozzle in overexpanded condition and compared with Hunter's experimental result. For the numerical simulation of the supersonic nozzle, Navier-Stokes equations are considered and as a turbulent model, $\kappa$-$\varepsilon$ /$\kappa$-$\omega$ blended SST two equation turbulent model is used. The characteristics of $\lambda$-shape shock systems due to the interaction of shock and boundary layer was investigated in a low NPR. And the result of comparison of thrust value shows that a fixed geometry nozzle can cover required flight mission.

Hysteresis phenomena in fluid flow systems are frequently encountered in many industrial and engineering applications and mainly appear during the transient processes of change of the pressure ratio. Shock-containing flow field in supersonic nozzles is typically subject to such hysteresis phenomena, but associated flow physics is not yet understood well. In the present study, experimental work has been carried out to investigate supersonic nozzle flows during the transient processes of change in the nozzle pressure ratio. Time-dependent surface wall pressures were measured by a multiple of pressure transducers and the flow field was visualized using a nano-spark Schlieren optical method. The results obtained show that the hysteresis phenomenon is strongly dependent on the nozzle geometry as well as the time scale of the change of pressure ratio.

Supersonic coaxial jets are investigated numerically by using the axisymmetric, Wavier-Stokes equations which are solved using a fully implicit finite volume method. Three different kinds of coaxial nozzles are employed to understand the flow physics involved in the supersonic coaxial jets. Two convergent-divergent supersonic nozzles are designed to have the same Mach number 2.0, and used to compare the coaxial jet flows with those discharging from one constant-area nozzle. The impingement angle of the annular jets are varied. The primary pressure ratio is changed in the range from 2.0 to 10.0 and the assistant jet ratio from 1.0 to 3.0. The results obtained show that the fluctuations of the total pressure and Mach number along the jet axis are much higher in the constant-area nozzle than those in the convergent-divergent nozzles, and the constant-area nozzle lead to higher total pressure losses, compared with the convergent-divergent nozzles. The assistant jets from the annular nozzle affect the coaxial jet flows within the distance less than about ten times the nozzle throat diameter, but beyond it the coaxial jet is conical with self-similar velocity profiles. Increasing both the primary jet pressure ratio and the assistant jet pressure ratio produces a longer coaxial jet core.

It has been well known that the major feature of compressible flow fields might be different depending on their formation processes. The objectives of the present study is to investigates the effect of jet development on the time history of supersonic jet flow field, accompanying nonequilibrium condensation. Especially, the behaviors of Mach disk diameter and location in a supersonic moist air jet are presented in terms of nozzle pressure ratio and initial relative humidity. The relative humidity of moist air is controlled at the nozzle supply, and the nozzle pressure ratio is varied to obtain the moderately underexpanded flows at the exit of the nozzle, installed in an indraft wind tunnel. It is found that at the same pressure ratio the Mach disk diameter increases with the initial relative humidity, while moves further upstream. Furthermore, the values of Mach disk diameter and location for increasing pressure ratio show larger than those for increasing.

The aim of this research is to analyze the influence of motive pressure, driving nozzle position and nozzle throat ratio on the performance of ejector. The experiment was conducted in the variation of motive pressure of 0.196, 0.294, 0.392 and 0.490MPa respectively. The position of driving nozzle was varied in difference locations according to mixing tube diameter(0.5d, 1d, 2d, 3d, 4.15d, 5d and 6d). The experimental results show when the nozzle outlet is located at 3d, the flow characteristics change abruptly. It is shown that the suction flow rate and pressure lift ratio of ejector is influenced by the driving nozzle position. At nozzle position location of the Id of mixing tube diameter the performance of ejector gives the best performance.
