This study investigates the wave propagation in porous functionally graded (FG) sandwich plates subjected to hygrothermal environments. A new simple three-unknown first-ordershear deformation theory (FSDT) incorporating an integral term is utilized in this paper. Only three unknowns are used to formulate the governing differential equation by applying the Hamilton principle. The FG layer of the sandwich plate is modeled using the power-law function with evenly distributed porosities to represent the defects of the manufacturing process. The plate is subjected to nonlinear hygrothermal changes across the thickness. The effects of the power-law exponent, core to thickness ratios, porosity volume, and the relations between volume fraction and wave properties of porous FG plate under the hygrothermal environment are investigated. The results showed that the waves' phase velocities increase linearly with the waves number in the FGM plate. The porosity of the FG materials plate has a noticeable impact on the phase velocity when considering the high ratios of the core layer. It has a negligible effect on small core layers. Finally, it is observed that changing temperatures and moistures do not influence the relationship between the power law and the phase velocity.
Step-drawdown tests were conducted at four pumping Wells, two in porous media and two in fractured rocks, respectively. In general, P = 2.0 suggested by Jacob (1947) is applied to porous media and fractured rocks in terms of drawdowns of step-drawdown test. In an attempt to review problems of linear model (Jacob's graphic method) in interpreting the step-draw down test, the outcomes of well parameters (aquifer loss coefficient (B), well loss coefficient (C) and well loss exponent (P)) calculated from linear and nonlinear model (Labadie and Helweg's least-squares method) were compared and analyzed. The values of C and P calculated from linear and nonlinear models differed according to permeability of aquifer and the conditions of pumping well. The value C obtained from nonlinear models in porous media and fractured rocks is about $10^0{\sim}10^{-2}$ and $10^{-3}{\sim}10^{-6}$ times lower than in their linear models, respectively. The value P of porous media obtained from nonlinear model ranged from 2.123 to 2.775, while it ranged from 3.459 to 5.635 for fractured rocks. In case of nonlinear model, well loss highly depends on the value P. At this time, well efficiencies calculated from linear and nonlinear models were $1.56{\sim}14.89%$ for porous media and $8.73{\sim}24.71%$ for fractured rocks, showing a significant error according to chosen models. In nonlinear model, it was found that the regression analysis using the least squares method was very useful to interpret step-drawdown test in all aquifer.

Conductive rubber material was molded in a belt shape to measure respiration. Its resistivity was approximately $0.03{\;}{\Omega}m$ and the resistance-displacement relationship showed a negative exponent. The temperature coefficient was approximately $0.006{\;}k{\Omega}/^{\circ}C$ negligible when practically applied on the abdomen. The conductive rubber belt was applied on a normal male's abdomen with the dimensional change measured during resting breathing. The abdominal signal was differentiated ($F_{m}$) and compared with the accurate standard air flow rate signal ($F_{s}$) obtained by pneumotachometry. $F_{m}$ and $F_{s}$ differed in waveform, but the start and end timings of each breaths were clearly synchronized, demonstrating that the respiratory frequency could be accurately estimated before further processing of $F_{m}$. $F_{m}-F_{s}$ loop showed a nonlinear hysteresis within each breath period, thus 6 piecewise linear approximation was performed, leading to a mean relative error of 14 %. This error level was relatively large for clinical application, though customized calibration seemed feasible for monitoring general variation of ventilation. The present technique would be of convenient and practical application as a new wearable respiratory transducer.
Objectives : Much is still unknown about the neurophysiological mechanisms or dynamics of the sleep onset process. Detrended fluctuation analysis (DFA) is a new tool for the analysis of electroencephalography (EEG) that may give us additional information about electrophysiological changes. The purpose of this study is to analyze long-range correlations of electroencephalographic signals by DFA and their changes in the sleep onset process. Methods : Thirty channel EEG was recorded in 61 healthy subjects (male:female=34:27, age=$27.2{\pm}3.0$ years). The scaling exponents, alpha, were calculated by DFA and compared between four kinds of 30s sleep-wakefulness states such as wakefulness, transition period, early sleep, and late sleep (stage 1). These four states were selected by the distribution of alpha and theta waves in O1 and O2 electrodes. Results : The scaling exponents, alpha, were significantly different in the four states during sleep onset periods, and also varied with the thirty leads. The interaction between the sleep states and the leads was significant. The means (${\pm}$ standard deviation) of alphas for the states were 0.94 (${\pm}0.12$), 0.98 (${\pm}0.12$), 1.10 (${\pm}0.10$), 1.07 (${\pm}0.07$) in the wakefulness, transitional period, early sleep and late sleep state respectively. The mean alpha of anterior fifteen leads was greater than that of posterior fifteen leads, and the two regions showed the different pattern of changes of the alpha during the sleep onset periods. Conclusions : The characteristic findings in the sleep onset period were the increasing pattern of scaling exponent of DFA, and the pattern was slightly but significantly different between fronto-temporal and parieto-occipital regions. It suggests that the long-range correlations of EEG have a tendency of increasing from wakefulness to early sleep, but anterior and posterior brain regions have different dynamical process. DFA, one of the nonlinear analytical methods for time series, may be a useful tool for the investigation of the sleep onset period.

Low-velocity impact on composite sandwich panel has been investigated. Contact force is computed from a proposed modified Hertzian contact law. The Hertzian contact law is constructed by adjusting numerical value of the exponent and reducing the through-the- thickness elastic constant of honeycomb core. The equivalent transverse elastic constant is calculated from the rule of mixture. Nonlinear equation to calculate the contact force is solved by the Newton-Raphson method and time integration is done by the Newmark-beta method. A finite element program for the low-velocity impact analysis is coded by implementing these techniques and an 18-node assumed strain solid element. Behaviors of composite sandwich panels subjected to low-velocity impact are analyzed for various cases with different geometry and lay-ups. It has been found that the present code with the proposed contact law can predict measured contact forces and contact times for most cases within reasonable error bounds.

The microstructure and electrical characteristics of A~C's ZnO varistors fabricated according to variable sintering condition, which sintering temperature is $1130^{\circ}C$ and speeds of pusher are A: 2mm/min, B: 4mm/min, C: 6mm/min, respectively, were investigated. In the microstructure, A~C's ZnO varist-ors fabricated variable sintering condition was consisted of ZnO grain(ZnO), spinel phase$(Zn_{2.33}Sb_{0.67}O_4)$ Bi-rich $phase(Bi_{2}O_{3})$, wholly. Varistor voltage of A~C's ZnO varistors sintered at $1130^{\circ}C$ increased in order A < B < C's ZnO varistors. C's ZnO varistor exhibited good characteristics that nonlinear exponent is 31.70. Leakage current of A~C's ZnO varistors exhibited below 2mA at rated voltage. Lightning impulse residual voltage of A's ZnO varistor suited standard characteristics, which is 3.85kV at 2.5kA, 4.4kV at 5kA and 5.16kV at 10kA. After multi lightning impulse residual voltage test of A's ZnO varistor exhibited good discharge characteristics which ZnO varistor reveals no evidence of puncture, flashover, cracking in visual examination. After high current impulse test of A's ZnO varistor exhibited good discharge characteristics, which variation rate of residual voltage is 0.4% before and after test, and revealed no evidence.
Objectives : The detrended fluctuation analysis is one of the nonlinear methods for the investigation of biological time series. It quantifies the fractal scaling properties and is known to be useful in the evaluation of long-range correlations in time series. The heart rate variability(HRV) of obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) patients during nighttime was analyzed by detrended fluctuation analysis to assess its relationship with the severity of the symptoms. Methods : Fifty nine untreated male OSAS patients with moderate to severe symptoms(mean age=45.4${\pm}$11.7 years, apnea-hypopnea index, AHI${\geq}$15) underwent nocturnal polysomnography. Moderate(AHI=15-30, N=22) and severe(AHI>30, N=37) OSAS patients were compared for the indices derived from detrended fluctuation analysis and frequency domain analysis of HRV. Results : In the detrended fluctuation analysis, the alpha values were 0.75${\pm}$0.11 and 0.82${\pm}$0.07 for the severe and the moderate OSAS groups respectively. The difference was significant(p<.01). The alpha value had negative correlation with AHI(r=-.425, p=.001). Negative correlation coefficients were also found in the relationships between the alpha values and very low frequency(VLF)(r=-.425, p=.001), low frequency(LF)(r=-.633, p= <.001) and the LF/HF ratio(r=-.305, p=.019) respectively. LF/HF ratio(p=.005) was higher in the severe OSAS group compared to that of the moderate OSAS group. Conclusion : In this study, the detrended fluctuation analysis showed the significant difference between the two OSAS groups classified according to their severity of symptoms. The scaling exponent showed the negative correlation with AHI and indicies of frequency domain analysis. This result suggests that detrended fluctuation analysis can be helpful to estimate the severity of OSAS.

In this study, numerical simulations were performed to determine the dynamic characteristics of a pintle nozzle, with changes to the chamber boundary conditions. To apply movement, to the pintle, the nozzle and pintle were created separately by an auto-grid generation program using an overset grid method. The chamber boundary conditions were selected between a constant mass-flow rate condition and a propellant burn-back condition. The pressure and thrust characteristics of the constant mass-flow rate condition were determined by changing the ratio of the mass-flow rate in the inlet. The propellant burn-back condition was considered by formulation of the combustion rate. The burn-back conditions represented nonlinear phenomena, unlike the constant mass flow rate, and a small flow rate resulted in a large change in the chamber pressure.
This study presents data on spawning season, weight-length relationships (WLRs) and condition factor of Gadus chalcogrammus inhabiting the middle East Sea, Korea. Monthly changes in the gonadosomatic index (GSI) revealed that the spawning period was from December to March. Overall value of the exponent b, estimated by nonlinear least squares from weight and length data was 2.806, ranging from 2.778 for female fishes to 2.985 for immature group. The b values were similar between spawning and non-spawning, and between female and male fishes, but it was significantly higher for immature than mature fishes. The condition factors were significantly higher for immature than mature groups, and during non-spawning than spawning periods, but it was not significant between male and female fishes.

The wave height and period regression curve is widely used to estimate the design wave period. In this study, the parameters of the curves are estimated, compared, and evaluated using the linear, robust linear, and nonlinear regression methods, respectively. The data used in the design wave height estimation are the annual maxima (AM) wave height and period data sets divided by typhoon and non-typhoon conditions, provided by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (2019). The estimation parameters show significant differences in the local coastal waters and the estimation methods. The estimation parameters based on the Suh et al. (2008, 2010) method show the apparent bias, under-estimation in the intercept (scale) parameter, and over-estimation in the slope (exponent) parameter, respectively.
