  • Recently, bathroom tile defects in households are occurring more frequently. Until now, the destructive investigation method has been required to analyze tile defects. This study proposes a non-destructive using a thermal emission camera imaging as a possibly more precise method of investigating tile failure compared to previous existing methods.

  • Turkey is a transcontinental country located partly in Asia and partly in Europe, and hosted by diverse civilizations including Hittite, Urartu, Lydia, Phrygia, Pontius, Byzantine, Seljuk's and Ottomans. At various times, these built many historic monuments representing the most significant characteristics of their civilizations. Today, these monuments contribute enormously to the esthetic beauty of environment and important to many cities of Turkey in attracting tourism. The survival of these monuments depends on the investigation of structural behavior and implementation of needed repairing and/or strengthening applications. Hence, many countries have made deeper investigations and regulations to assess their monuments' structural behavior. This paper presents the dynamic behavior investigation of a monumental masonry mosque, the "İskenderpaşa Mosque" in Trabzon (Turkey), by performing an experimental examination with non-destructive testing. The dynamic behavior investigation was carried out by determining the dynamic characteristic called as natural frequencies, mode shapes and damping ratios. The experimental dynamic characteristics were extracted by Operational Modal Analysis (OMA). In addition, Finite Element (FE) model of masonry mosque was constructed in ANSYS software and the numerical dynamic characteristics such as natural frequencies and mode shapes were also obtained and compared to experimental ones. The paper aims at presenting the non-destructive testing procedure of a masonry mosque as well as the comparison of experimental and numerical dynamic characteristics obtained from the mosque.

  • Cultural properties are valuable objects, which have exposed insevere environment and inherited for a long time but we don’t have correct information concerning materials, structure and skill of manufacture. Because the cultural properties have been destroyed by the deterioration elements as like wind, this must be carefully treated for investigation of exhibition and storage. Even if the observation is scientific research, we must not take actual sample from the object for obtaining information concerning the nature materials and skill of manufacture. so it is elementary principle to use non-destructive investigation method as analytical methods for cultural property. This contribution discusses the present condition and problem of X-ray fluorescence acting as a representative non-destructive investigation method and the difference of statistics to be connected with determination and finally explains the intend facts for analysis of data.

  • Advancements in the imaging and computing technology have opened the path to digital holography for non-destructive investigations of technical samples, material property measurement, vibration analysis, flow visualization and stress analysis in aerospace industry which has widened the application of digital holography in the above fields. In this paper, we demonstrate the non-destructive investigation and micro-structure measurement application of digital holography to the small particles and a biological sample. This paper gives a brief description of the digital holograms recorded with this system and illustratively demonstrated.

  • Non-destructive method by tomography for safety diagnosis of civil engineering and building structures is tried. There are traveltime tomography that uses traveltime and fullwave tomography that uses the initial shock and seismic amplitude. But these methods have difficulty and weak points in accuracy and selection of initial value. In this study, corrected inversion method which is able to solve the two difficulty and this method is applied to theoretical pier model to calculate tomography.

  • For estimating compressive strength of concrete, non-destructive test has conducted generally. It used experimental equation to calculate compressive strength from construction. This study investigated experiment to apply non-destructive test, based on fresh property, compressive strength and ultrasonic pulse velocity of high performance concrete. And it conducted to compare various proposed equation.

  • Tube Lines has carried out a "knowledge and investigation programme" on the deep tube tunnels comprising the Jubilee, Northern and Piccadilly lines, as required by the PPP contract with London Underground. Many of the tunnels have been in use for over 100 years, so this assessment was considered essential to the future safe functioning of the system. This programme has involved a number of generic investigations which guide the assessment methodology and the analysis of some 5,000 individual structures. A significant amount of investigation has been carried out, including ultrasonic thickness measurement, detection of brickwork laminations using radar, stress measurement using magnetic techniques, determination of soil parameters using CPT, pressuremeter and laboratory testing, installation of piezometers, material and tunnel segment testing, and trialling of remote photographic techniques for inspection of large tunnels and shafts. Vibrating wire, potentiometer, electro level, optical and fibre-optic monitoring has been used, and laser measurement and laser scanning has been employed to measure tunnel circularity. It is considered that there is scope for considerable improvements in non-destructive testing technology for structural assessment in particular, and some ideas are offered as a "wish-list". Assessment reports have now been produced for all assets forming Tube Lines' deep tube tunnel network. For assets which are non-compliant with London Underground standards, the risk to the operating railway has to be maintained as low as reasonably practicable (ALARP) using enhanced inspection and monitoring, or repair where required. Monitoring techniques have developed greatly during recent years and further advances will continue to support the economic whole life asset management of infrastructure networks.

  • The post - fire investigation is conducted on a fire-affected reinforced concrete shear wall building to ascertain the level of its strength degradation due to the fire incident. Fire incident took place in a three-storey building made of reinforced concrete shear wall and roof with operating floors made of steel beams and chequered plates. The usage of the building is to handle explosives. Elevated temperature during the fire is estimated to be $350^{\circ}C$ based on visual inspection. Destructive (core extraction) and non-destructive (rebound hammer and ultrasonic pulse velocity) tests are conducted to evaluate the concrete strength. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FESEM) are used for analyzing micro structural changes of the concrete due to fire. Tests are conducted for concrete walls and roof slab on both burnt and unburnt locations. The analysis of test results reveals no significant degradation of the building after the fire which signifies that the structure can be used with full expectancy of performance for the remaining service life. This document can be used as a reference for future forensic investigations of similar fire affected concrete structures.

  • We report simple new techniques to express analysis of display materials. Colour Cathodoluminescence combined with scanning electron microscopy and spectroscopy is a powerful, non-destructive, high-resolution method for investigation luminescent materials. Some applications of this method to powder phosphors used in display are demonstrated.
