This paper introduces works performed for reducing high frequency noise of a reciprocating compressor. Noise in a high frequency range strongly affects sound quality as well as increases total noise level of the compressor. In order to reduce the noise, two different works were carried out. the first work was to measure the vibration Power transferred through suspension spring and discharge pipe; and the second one was to obtain operational deflection shape from cross-power spectrum measured on shell. Based on the information, Adequate structural modification of the transfer path and shell resulted in noise reduction in a high frequency range.
Randomizing the switching frequency (RSF) to reduce the electromagnetic interference (EMI) of switching power converters is a well-known technique that has been previously discussed. The randomized pulse position (RPP) technique, in which the switching frequency is kept fixed while the pulse position (the delay from the starting of the switching cycle to the turn-on instant within the cycle) is randomized, has been previously addressed in the literature for the same purpose. This paper presents a double-hybrid technique (DHB) for EMI reduction in dc-dc switching regulators. The proposed technique employed both the RSF and the RPP techniques. To effectively spread the conducted-noise frequency spectrum and at the same time attain a satisfactory output voltage quality, two parameters (switching frequency and pulse position) were randomized, and a third parameter (the duty ratio) was controlled by a digital compensator. Implementation was achieved using field programmable gate array (FPGA) technology, which is increasingly being adopted in industrial electronic applications. To evaluate the contribution of the proposed DHB technique, investigations were carried out for each basic PWM, RPP, RSF, and DHB technique. Then a comparison was made of the performances achieved. The experimentally investigated features include the effect of each technique on the common-mode, differential-mode, and total conducted-noise characteristics, and their influence on the converter’s output ripple voltage.
We estimate the power spectra of the cosmic microwave background radiation (CMB) temperature anisotropy in localized regions of the sky using the Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe (WMAP) 7-year data. We find that the north and south hat regions at high Galactic latitude ($|b|{\geq}30^{\circ}C$) show an anomaly in the power spectrum amplitude around the third peak, which is statistically significant up to 3. We try to explain the cause of the observed anomaly by analyzing the low Galactic latitude ($|b|$ < $30^{\circ}C$) regions where the galaxy contamination is expected to be stronger, and the regions weakly or strongly dominated byWMAP instrument noise. We also consider the possible effect of unresolved radio point sources. We find another but less statistically significant anomaly in the low Galactic latitude north and south regions whose behavior is opposite to the one at high latitude. Our analysis shows that the observed north-south anomaly at high latitude becomes weaker on regions with high number of observations (weak instrument noise), suggesting that the anomaly is significant at sky regions that are dominated by the WMAP instrument noise. We have checked that the observed north-south anomaly has weak dependences on the bin-width used in the power spectrum estimation, and on the Galactic latitude cut. We also discuss the possibility that the detected anomaly may hinge on the particular choice of the multipole bin around the third peak. We anticipate that the issue of whether or not the anomaly is intrinsic one or due to WMAP instrument noise will be resolved by the forthcoming Planck data.
The purpose of this study was to compare image quality of indirect digital radiography (IDR) system using the International Electro-technical Commission standard (IEC 62220-1), and to suggest the analysis of noise power spectrum (NPS) which were applied to IEC 62220-1 in medical imaging. In this study, Pixium 4600 (Trixell, France) which is indirect flat panel detector (FPD) was used. The size of image receptor (IR) is $7{\times}17$ inch (matrix $3001{\times}3001$) which performed 14bit processing and pixel pitch is $143{\mu}m$. In IEC standard, NPS evaluation were applied to RQA3, RQA5, RQA7 and RQA9. Because of different radiation quality, each region of interesting (ROI) were compared. The results of NPS indicated up to $3.5mm^{-1}$ including low Nyquist frequency. RQA5 indicated the lowest NPS and the others indicated higher NPS results relatively. NPS result of ROI a38 was higher than ROI a92 and this result indicated that there are more noise in left (cathode) than right (anode). This study were to evaluate NPS by using different radiation quality and setting the each ROI, and to suggest the quantitative methods of measuring NPS.

The relative electron density resolution was discussed by the noise power spectrum (NPS) in the heavy ion CT image. The heavy ion beam $\^$12/C accelerated up to 400MeV/u by RIMAC was used in this study. The two-dimensional (2-D) NPS in the CT image was obtained from the one-dimensional (1-D) NPS of the measured residual range distribution of water phantom for single projection, and the noise variance in the CT image was calculated from 2-D NPS. The technique used in the reconstruction was the filtered back-projection method with Shepp-Logan filter. The calculated value suggests the result of our previous works using the density resolution phantom, assuming that the relative electron density resolution is twice the standard deviation. Therefore, the estimation of the noise in CT images by 2-D NPS obtained the measured residual range distribution is the useful method.

Very often, one would like to have visual image of mechanical or acoustical events such as musical sound and transient vibrations. Conventional methods to visualize the signal, such as power spectrum, do not normally allow to cultivate the signal of interests due to their inherent limitation on transient signals. Other than the conventional method, one could use an instantaneous frequency which can reveal the variation of frequency in terms of time. Nevertheless it is quite sensitive to noise and can not resolve the frequency components of signals; normally produces additional components other than those of the signals. In this paper, we introduce the Wigner-Ville spectrum to see the transient characteristics of signal, especially musical sound and transient mechanical vibration signatures. For musical sound, several popular western classic music have been selected for the analysis. For the transient mechanical signature, the signals obtained from the car door experiment and the beam experiment are interpreted in terms of Wigner-Ville spectrum. Results demonstrate the visual expressions of transient signals; musical sound and vibrations.
The switching-mode power converter has been widely used because of its features of high efficiency and small weight and size. These features are brought by the ON-OFF operation of semiconductor switching devices. However, this switching operation causes the surge and EMI(Electromagnetic Interference) which deteriorate the reliability of the converter themselves and entire electronic systems. This problem on the surge and noise is one of the most serious difficulties in AC-to-DC converter. Random Pulse Width Modulation (RPWM) is peformed by adding a random perturbation to switching instant while output-voltage regulation of converter is performed. RPWM method for reducing conducted EMI in single switch three phase discontinuous conduction mode boost converter is presented. The more white noise is injected, the more conducted EMI is reduced. But output-voltage is not sufficiently regulated. This is the reason why carrier frequency selection topology is proposed. In the case of carrier frequency selection, output-voltage of steady state and transient state is fully regulated. A RPWM control method was proposed in order to smooth the switching noise spectrum and reduce it's level. Experimental results are verified by converter operating at 300v/1kW with $5%{\sim}30%$ white noise input. Spectrum analysis is performed on the Phase current and the CM noise voltage. The former is measured with Current Probe and the latter is achieved with LISN, which are connected to the spectrum analyzer respectively.

This paper introduces the Bootstrap method for statistical analysis of noise and vibration spectrum in aeronautic and space fields. Generally, all components of a launch vehicle and its payloads are subjected to high intensive noise and vibration environment during the lift-off phase and the ascent phase through Mach =1 and Max Q. In order to verify their survivabilities against these severe vibroacoustic environments during qualification tests and acceptance tests, it is most important to estimate the proper upper limits of the environmental condition. Although NASA has typically utilized the Normal Tolerance Limit method in deriving these levels, the reference[1] says that the Bootstrap can be also an alternative method to estimate the maximum expected environments. In this paper, a general procedure of the Bootstrap method is summarized, and it is applied to analyze acceleration power spectral density functions, which were measured during acoustic test on the upper stage of KSLV-I.

The diagnosis of mechanical load and of power transmission system failures is usually carried out through mechanical signals such as vibration signals, acoustic emissions, motor speed envelope. If the mechanical load comes from an electrical machine the mechanical failures could be detected previously. Mechanical rotor imbalances and rotor eccentricities are reflected in electric, electromagnetic and mechanical quantities. Therefore, many surveillance schemes apply to the Fourier spectrum of a line current in order to monitor the motor condition. Due to the interaction of the currents and voltages, both these current harmonics are also reflected by a single harmonic component in the frequency spectrum of the electric power. Motor Current Signature Analysis is the usuful technique to assess machine electrical condition.
The purpose of this work was to evaluate an amorphous silicon cesium iodide based indirect flat-panel detector (FPD) in terms of their modulation transfer function (MTF), Wiener spectrum (WS, or noise power spectrum, NPS), and detective quantum efficiency (DQE). Measurements were made on flat-panel detector using the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) defined RQA3, RQA5, RQA7, and RQA9 radiographic technique. The MTFs of the systems were measured using an edge method. The WS(NPS) of the systems were determined for a range of exposure levels by two-dimensional (2D). Fourier analysis of uniformly exposed radiographs. The DQEs were assessed from the measured MTF, WS(NPS), exposure, and estimated ideal signal-to-noise ratios. Characteristic curve in the RQA3 showed difference in the characteristic curve from RQA5, RQA7, RQA9. MTFs were not differences according to x-ray beam quality. WS(NPS) was reduced with increasing dose, and RQA 3, RQA5, RQA7, RQA9 as the order is reduced. DQE represented the best in the 1mR, RQA 3, RQA5, RQA7, RQA9 decrease in the order. The physical imaging characteristics of FPD may also differ from input beam quality. This study gives an initial motivation that the physical imaging characteristics of FPD is an important issue for the right use of digital radiography system.
