  • Recently, nano-methodology is increasingly important as the ruler for measuring nano-technology, and we applied the linear encoder to nano-methodology. The quadrature output in the linear encoder has an effect on increasing the resolution in some techniques. Already, various interpolation techniques based on the quadrature signal have applied to the precision servo system. In this paper, we propose a new interpolation algorithm for ultra-precision positioning in the low speed with simulation by MATLAB SIMULINK. This method modified previous methods and was properly designed for some given control system. To verify, we first fulfilled the encoder signal test to find main parameters fer the signal transformation, then we proved the proposed interpolation algorithm by experiments, which show that the result of the interpolation algorithm corresponds with the measurement of the laser interferometer in 100 nm unit approximately. In addition, we can get more precise measurement by more accurate and noise-free signal. So we need to compensate imperfections in the encoder signal. After that, we will apply this algorithm to nano positioning system.

  • The Arena Fragmentation Test(AFT) is designed to analyze warhead performance by measuring fragmentation data. In order to evaluate the results of the AFT, a set of AFT images are captured by high-speed cameras. To detect objects in the AFT image set, ResNet-50 based Faster R-CNN is used as a detection model. However, because of the low resolution of the AFT image set, a detection model has shown low performance. To enhance the performance of the detection model, Super-resolution(SR) methods are used to increase the AFT image set resolution. To this end, The Bicubic method and three SR models: ZSSR, EDSR, and SwinIR are used. The use of SR images results in an increase in the performance of the detection model. While the increase in the number of pixels representing a fragment flame in the AFT images improves the Recall performance of the detection model, the number of pixels representing noise also increases, leading to a slight decreases in Precision performance. Consequently, the F1 score is increased by up to 9 %, demonstrating the effectiveness of SR in enhancing the performance of the detection model.

  • In this paper, we propose a new method for stabilizing the image captured from a camera mounted on a buoy robot. In this study, in order to solve the problem of cumulative errors and noise produced by a general gyro sensor measuring the orientation angle of the buoy robot, we propose new method for stabilizing the image. In this method, image processing techniques are combined with a newly designed target mounting mechanism that adapts to wave fluctuations. New target extraction and angle estimation techniques are introduced, along with the new mounting mechanism used for the camera and the target, which produce a stabilized image even if the buoy robot is on fluctuating waves.

  • Pressure vessels in vehicle industries, power plants, and chemical industries are often affected by flaw and defect generated inside the pressure vessels due to production processes or being used. It is very important to detect such internal defects of pressure vessel because they sometimes bring out serious problems. In this paper, an optical defect detection method using digital shearography is used. This method has advantages that the inspection can be performed at a real time measurement and is less sensitive to environmental noise. Shearography is a laser-based technique for full-field, non-contacting measurement of surface deformation (displacement or strain). The ultimate goal of this paper is to detect flaws in pressure vessels and to measure the lengths of the flaws by using unwrapping, phase images which are only obtained by Phase map. Through this method, we could decrease post-processing (next processing). Real length of a pixel can be calculated by comparing minimum and maximum unwrapping images with shearing angle. Through measuring several specimen defects which have different lengths and depths of defect, it can be possible to interpret quantitatively by calculating gray level.

  • The explicit finite element method is an essential tool for solving large problems with severe nonlinear characteristics, but its results can be difficult to interpret. In particular, it can be impossible to evaluate its acceleration responses because of severe discontinuity, extreme noise or aliasing. We suggest a new post-processing method for transient responses and their response spectra. We propose smoothing methods using a Gaussian kernel without in depth knowledge of the complex frequency characteristics; such methods are successfully used in the filtering of digital signals. This smoothing can be done by measuring the velocity results and monitoring the response spectra. Gaussian kernel smoothing gives a better smoothness and representation of the peak values than other approaches do. The floor response spectra can be derived using smoothed accelerations for the design.

  • The three-dimensional measurement method of confocal systems is a spot scanning method which has a high resolution and good illumination efficiency. However, conventional confocal systems had a weak point in that it has to perform XY axis scanning to achieve FOV (Field of View) vision through spot scanning. There are some methods to improve this problem involving the use of a galvano mirror [1], pin-hole array, etc. Therefore, in this paper we propose a method to improve a parallel mode confocal system using a micro-lens and pin-hole array in a dual microscope configuration. We made an area scan possible by using a combination MLA (Micro Lens Array) and pin-hole array, and used an objective lens to improve the light transmittance and signal-to-noise ratio. Additionally, we made it possible to change the objective lens so that it is possible to select a lens considering the reflection characteristic of the measuring object and proper magnification. We did an experiment using 5X, 2.3X objective lens, and did a calibration of height using a VLSI calibration target.

  • In this paper, we propose a method of frame synchronization for stereoscopic 3D video to solve the viewing problem caused by synchronization errors between a left video and a right video using the temporal frame difference image depending on the movement of objects. Firstly, we compute two temporal frame difference images from the left video and the right video which are corrected the vertical parallax between two videos using rectification, and calculate two horizontal projection profiles of two temporal frame difference images. Then, we find a pair of synchronized frames of the two videos by measuring the mean of absolute difference (MAD) of two horizontal projection profiles. Experimental results show that the proposed method can be used for stereoscopic 3D video, and is robust against Gaussian noise and video compression by H.264/AVC.

  • The tire damage classification method is researched on the periodicity detection of ramdomness ultrasonic signals to occur at the driving vehicle tire. Setting method of adaptive threshold is proposed in order to valid pulse detection by tire damage in ultrasonic noise on the road and used low pass filter for decrease signal ramdomness as preprocessing. Time interval of detected pulse is setted the density function depend on the vehicle's speed and the method of tire damage detection is proposed that measuring the first peak's time of time density function. The result of time density function in case of one damage material, the first peak's time is measured within the error limit of tire's rotation period, 169.8ms and 97.9ms and 81.8ms, about the speed of 50km/h and 80km/h and 100km/h. In case of more than one damage material, the sum of each peak's time is measured within the error limit of tire's rotation period about the speed.

  • As mobile devices such as smartphones and tablet PCs become more popular, users are becoming accustomed to consuming a massive amount of multimedia content every day without time or space limitations. From the industry, the need for user satisfaction investigation has consequently emerged. Conventional methods to investigate user satisfaction usually employ user feedback surveys or interviews, which are considered manual, subjective, and inefficient. Therefore, the authors focus on a more objective method of investigating users' brainwaves to measure how much they enjoy their content. Particularly for multimedia content, it is natural that users will be immersed in the played content if they are satisfied with it. In this paper, the authors propose a method of using a portable and dry electroencephalogram (EEG) sensor device to overcome the limitations of the existing conventional methods and to further advance existing EEG-based studies. The proposed method uses a portable EEG sensor device that has a small, dry (i.e., not wet or adhesive), and simple sensor using a single channel, because the authors assume mobile device environments where users consider the features of portability and usability to be important. This paper presents how to measure attention, gauge and compute a score of user's content immersion level after addressing some technical details related to adopting the portable EEG sensor device. Lastly, via an experiment, the authors verified a meaningful correlation between the computed scores and the actual user satisfaction scores.

  • Sound barrier walls are the most basic way to cope with noise problems in urban residential environments. The most important acoustic function of sound insulation board is represented by sound transmission loss and sound absorption coefficient. However, Korea has not yet established a standard for measuring the sound absorption rate of sound insulation boards. In addition, even in the European standard, where the overall acoustic standard of soundproofing boards has already been established, the sound absorption rate is applied only to the standard for measuring the sound absorption rate of general building finishing materials, and a separate measurement method considering the characteristics of soundproof walls and soundproofing boards is not presented. The sound absorption coefficient should be evaluated by summing up the energy absorbed into the material as well as the energy transmitted through the material, but the current European standard has a problem in that the transmitted sound energy is not taken into account. In this paper, we reviewed the sound absorption coefficient measurement standards of sound insulation boards currently being presented, and verified the difference between the results and the new measurement method considering transmission sound for sound insulation boards actually used in Korea.
