  • In order to analyze the influence of the noise on a cross-well traveltime tomography to detect a small scale low velocity body in a homogeneous medium, the first arrival travel times were computed one a tunnel model by a finite-difference ray tracing scheme. Three different types and four different intensity levels of white noises were added to the computed first arrival travel times, and velocity tomograms were constructed using an iterative inversion method (SIRT). Tomograms with the noise intensity up to 10% of the maximum traveltime delay in the tunnel model, showed the exact location of the tunnel. However, the velocity shown at the tunnel location was not close to air velocity but only slightly less than the velocity of the background medium. The additive random noise showed significantly less degree of influence on the resulting tomogram than the source- and receiver consistent noise.

  • We propose to use independent component analysis (ICA) and deep neural network (DNN) to detect music sections in broadcast drama contents. Drama contents mainly comprise silence, noise, speech, music, and mixed (speech+music) sections. The silence section is detected by signal activity detection. To detect the music section, we train noise, speech, music, and mixed models with DNN. In computer experiments, we used the MUSAN corpus for training the acoustic model, and conducted an experiment using 3 hours' worth of Korean drama contents. As the mixed section includes music signals, it was regarded as a music section. The segmentation error rate (SER) of music section detection was observed to be 19.0%. In addition, when stereo mixed signals were separated into music signals using ICA, the SER was reduced to 11.8%.

  • This paper presents the equipment condition monitoring technology for the process or the equipment using statistical techniques. The equipment condition monitoring system consists of an empirical model to estimate the expected sensor values of process variables and a diagnose model to detect the abnormal condition and to identify the root source of the problem. The empirical model is constructed by the analysis of historic data. The diagnose model uses the sequential probability ratio test (SPRT) technique. The monitoring system was tested with real operating data acquired from the Reactor Coolant Pump Seal in the Nuclear Power Plant. It can detect the system degradation or failure at the early stage since it is able to catch the subtle deviation of process variables from normal condition.

  • This paper presents that the Wavelet Transform can be used to detect the various local defects in a gearbos. Two types of defects which are broken tooth and localized wear, are experimented and the signals are collected by accerometer and analyzed. Because of the complecity of the signals acquired from sensor, it is needed to identify the interesting signal. The natural frequencies of shafts and the gear mesh frequency(GMF) is calculated theretically. DWT, CWT and the aplication are used to extract a gear-localized defect feature from the vibration signal of the gearbox with the defective gear. The results shows the transform is more effective to detect the failures than the Fourier Transform.

  • Recently it is often reported about toxic nanomaterials to organisms. In other words, it is called nanotoxicity, toxic nanomaterials have extremely toxic properties. Zinc oxide is widely used as a promising nanomaterials, but some researchers are warning that nanotype zinc oxide has nanotoxicity. One of typical zinc oxide materials is a zinc oxide nanowire, especially, there is no technique which is detecting a zinc oxide nanowire because of its geometric. In here, we use reduced graphene oxide in order to detect zinc oxide nanowire and use DNA immobilized cantilever sensor, we detect graphene wrapped zinc oxide nanowire. Detection of a zinc oxide nanowire is measured by shifting of cantilever's resonance frequency based on vibration theory. It is proved that cantilever sensor is valid for nanomaterial detection. We showed that detection of a zinc oxide nanowire is successful.

  • Because the noise is the main cause for decreasing the performance at speech recognition, the place or environment is very important in speech recognition. To improve the speech recognition performance in the real situations where various extraneous noises are abundant, a novel combination of FIR and Wiener filters is proposed and experimented. The combination resulted in improved accuracy and reduced processing time, enabling fast analysis and response in emergency situations. Usually, there are many dangerous situations in our city life, so for the smarter city it is necessary to detect many types of sound in various environment. Therefore this paper is about how to detect many types of sound in real city, especially on CCTV. This paper is for implementing the smarter city by detecting many types of sounds and filtering one of the emergency sound in this sound stream. And then it can be possible to handle with the emergency or dangerous situation.

  • Vibration transient generated by developing localized fault in gear can be used as indicators of condition monitoring in a gear. In this paper, we propose the phase map for a fault signal using continuous wavelet transform to detect this vibration transient. Local fault induces the abrupt fluctuation of load exciting tooth and phase lag in the vibration signal measured on the gearbox. The relatively large fault like "tip breakage" easily can be detected by the clear fluctuation of exciting load. However, minor fault like "initial pitting" cannot be detected using the load fluctuation. To detect this kind of minor fault, the phase map for a fault signal is taken into account. The phase lag by minor fault is observed well in the phase map.

  • This paper presents a comparison study between simulation and experiment for fault diagnostics of a spur gear. In simulation, fault diagnostics using transmission error (TE) was performed and concluded to be valid. In a real experiment, however, it is not as easy to detect faults of gears using TE as in simulation. In this paper, after seeding the various faults like tooth crack of different length, tooth breakage and spalling in test rig, TE was calculated. Then, several signal processing techniques were performed to overcome the limitations of an experiment in detecting the fault signals of TE. After signal processing, we could detect the various faults of spur gears and different amplitude of TE sparks from cracks of different length. Then we discussed the difference between simulation and experment.

  • For the several decades, various nanomaterials are broadly used in industry and research. With the growth of nanotechnology, the study of nanotoxicity is being accelerated. Particularly, mercury ion is widely used in real life. Because the mercury is representative high toxic material, it is highly recommended to detect the mercury ion. In previous reported work, thymine-thymine mismatches (T-T) capture mercury ion and create very stable base pair ($T-Hg^{2+}-T$). Here, we performed the high sensitive sensing method for direct label free detection of mercury ions and DNA binding using Kelvin Probe Force Microscope (KPFM). In this method, 30 base pairs of thymine (T-30) is used for mercury specific DNA binding ($T-Hg^{2+}-T$). KPFM is able to detect the mercury ion because there is difference between bare T-30 DNA and mercury mediated DNA ($T-Hg^{2+}-T$).

  • In this paper, an optical fiber sensor(OF sensor) utilizing the principal of Sagnac interferometer was proposed to detect the discharge signals which generated from needle-sphere electrode system in insulating oil. The performance of OF sensor was checked by sinusoidal calibration signal generated by PZT acuator at 198kHz. The detected discharge signals consisted of acoustic signal and the electrical noise. The noise signal could be removed by digital low pass filter. It was demonstrated that the OF sensor in this research had a possibility to detect the discharge signals in power apparatus.
