  • In wireless sensor networks, energy is the most important consideration because the lifetime of the sensor node is limited by battery. Most of the existing energy efficient routing protocols use the minimum energy path to minimize energy consumption, which causes an unbalanced distribution of residual energy among nodes. As a result, the power of nodes on energy efficient paths is quickly depletes resulting in inactive. To solve these problems, a method to equalize the energy consumption of the nodes has been proposed, but do not consider the link error rate in the wireless environment. In this paper, we propose a uniform energy consumption of cluster-based multi-hop routing mechanism considering the residual energy and the link error rate. This mechanism reduces energy consumption caused by unnecessary retransmissions and distributes traffic evenly over the network because considering the link error rate. The simulation results compared to other mechanisms, the proposed mechanism is energy-efficient by reducing the number of retransmissions and activation time of all nodes involved in the network has been extended by using the energy balanced path.

  • Recent researches on radio frequency energy harvesting networks(RF-EHNs) with limited energy resource like battery have been focusing on the development of a new scheme that can effectively extend the whole lifetime of a network to semipermanent. In order for considerable increase both in the amount of energy obtained from radio frequency energy harvesting and its charging effectiveness, it is very important to design a network that supports energy harvesting and data transfer simultaneously with the full consideration of various characteristics affecting the performance of a RF-EHN. In this paper, we proposes an interference-based charging aware routing protocol(ICARP) that utilizes interference information and charging time to maximize the amount of energy harvesting and to minimize the end-to-end delay from a source to the given destination node. To accomplish the research objectives, this paper gives a design of ICARP adopting new network metrics such as interference information and charging time to minimize end-to-end delay in energy harvesting wireless networks. The proposed method enables a RF-EHN to reduce the number of packet losses and retransmissions significantly for better energy consumption. Finally, simulation results show that the network performance in the aspects of packet transmission rate and end-to-end delay has enhanced with the comparison of existing routing protocols.

  • Efficient energy management is a very important factor in sensor networks with limited resources, and cluster techniques have been studied a lot in this respect. However, a problem may occur in which energy use of the cluster header is concentrated, and when the cluster header is not evenly distributed over the entire area but concentrated in a specific area, the transmission distance of the cluster members may be large or very uneven. The transmission distance can be directly related to the problem of energy consumption. Since the energy of a specific node is quickly exhausted, the lifetime of the sensor network is shortened, and the efficiency of the entire sensor network is reduced. Thus, balanced energy consumption of sensor nodes is a very important research task. In this study, factors for balanced energy consumption by cluster headers and sensor nodes are analyzed, and a balancing distribution clustering method in which cluster headers are balanced distributed throughout the sensor network is proposed. The proposed cluster method uses multi-hop routing to reduce energy consumption of sensor nodes due to long-distance transmission. Existing multi-hop cluster studies sets up a multi-hop cluster path through a two-step process of cluster setup and routing path setup, whereas the proposed method establishes a hierarchical cluster routing path in the process of selecting cluster headers to minimize the overhead of control messages.
