  • Purpose: As nitrate nitrogen produced during fermentation of liquid fertilizer is a pollution indicator of water, in this study, four research areas where liquid fertilizer was sprayed were selected, and a model was designed to estimate the concentration of nitrate nitrogen pollution. Method: Prior to shooting on site, a spectrum library was constructed by dividing the ratio of liquid fertilizer into 5 groups: 0%, 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100%. PLSR (Partial least squares regression) method was applied to hyperspectral images acquired in the study area based on the aspect of spectrum. Result: The behavior of nitrate nitrogen was confirmed by 1st and 2nd differentiation of the spectrum of the constructed liquid fertilizer. PLSR concentration estimation modeling was implemented using images from field experiments and compared with actual concentration of nitrate nitrogen. Conclusion: When comparing the PLSR concentration estimation model with the actual concentration of nitrate nitrogen, it was measured that the detection is possible in high concentration areas where the concentration of nitrate nitrogen is 70mg/kg or more.

  • This study was aimed to behaviour of organics and nitrogen on the upflow anaerobic reactor when a acid fermenter is added. Up flow anaerobic reactor (UAR) reaction will result which operates, COD removal efficiencies of reactor with nitrate loading rate 0.11, 0.66g/L/d were over 77%, but one with 1.0g/L/d was 73.5%. Especially, on NLR 0.11g/L/d, COD removal was 77% and nitrate removal efficiency was 93% simultaneously. The other side upflow anaerobic reactor and acid fermenter (UAR+AF) reaction will result witch operates, COD removal efficiencies of reactor with nitrate loading rate 0.11, 0.66g/L/d were over 85%, but one with 1.0g/L/d was 80%. Especially, on NLR 0.11g/L/d, COD removal was 85% and nitrate removal efficiency was 98% simultaneously. Also, without in reaction condition increase of influent nitrate concentration resulted in the linear decrease of nitrate removal efficiency and nitrate removal efficiency at influent nitrate-nitrogen 800mg/L was 50%. Alkalinity was increased theoretically by denitrification at low nitrate-N concentration, however, it was not increased theoretically at high nitrate-No 40% nitrate-N of UAR was denitrified until 70% height of reactor and 90% nitrate-N of UAR+AF was denitrified until 30% height of reactor Upflow anaerobic reactor was to occur accumulate acid, which TVA/Alkalinity is 0.3$\sim$0.47. Increase of NLR resulted increase of effluent alkalinity and TVA production

  • Lettuce plants(Lactuca sativa var. capitata L.) were subjected to nitrogen starvation for 18, 14, 11, 7, and 0 days before harvest. The nitrate content of lettuce was decreased greatly by nitrogen starvation and also its fresh weight. The nitrate content of the middle part of leaves was lowest at the treatment of 18 days before harvest. In the inner part it was lowest at the treatment of 11 and 14 days before harvest. The longer the period of nitrogen starvation was, the more were decreased the absorption rates of cations at harvest. During the experiment, the pH was decreased except the treatment of 7 days before harvest. The EC was continuously increased regardless of treatments.

  • This study applied a hydrogeological field survey and isotope investigation to identify source locations and delineate pathways of groundwater contamination by nitrogen compounds. The infiltration and recharge processes were analyzed with groundwater-level fluctuation data and oxygen-hydrogen stable isotope data. The groundwater flow pattern was investigated through groundwater flow modeling and spatial and temporal variation of oxygen isotope data. Based on the flow analysis and nitrogen isotope data, source types of nitrate contamination in groundwater are identified. Groundwater recharge largely occurs in spring and summer due to precipitation or irrigation water in rice fields. Based on oxygen isotope data and cross-correlation between precipitation and groundwater level changes, groundwater recharge was found to be mainly caused by irrigation in spring and by precipitation at other times. The groundwater flow velocity calculated by a time series of spatial correlations, 231 m/yr, is in good accordance with the linear velocity estimated from hydrogeologic data. Nitrate contamination sources are natural and fertilized soils as non-point sources, and septic and animal wastes as point sources. Seasonal loading and spatial distribution of nitrate sources are estimated by using oxygen and nitrogen isotopic data.

  • Aspects of nitrate accumulation of forages growing on grasslands in Chonbuk Province, and the effects of different rates of N fertilizer on the total nitrogen and nitrate contents of sudangrass-hybrid and corn were studied through the 1991 growing season. The results obtained are summarized as follows: I . Thc nitrate content of the forages was increased by N application and decreased as the plants matured. 2. Nitrate concentration was high throughout the growing season in samples collected at Namweon-gun 1, which was considered as potentially unsafe. 3. Total nitrogen and nitrate content of plants generally increased with the increasing rates of N fertilizer, but not statistically significant among treatments except the plot of 25 kg N/lOa. 4. The annual crops had a greater tendency to accumulate nitrate than the perennial forage species. 5. It is suggested that high level of N fertilizer and manure may result in toxic levels of nitrate, and special attention must be given in feeding them.

  • To find out the optimum mixture ratio of ammonium and nitrate on rice plant, 4 rice varieties were examined during 14days after transplanting in hydroponics with the different ratio of ammonium to nitrate(100 : 0, 75: 25,50: 50, 25: 75 and 0: 100). The highest N uptake from solution and the maximum plant dry weight were $60\~70\%$ ammonium and $30\~40\%$ nitrate mixture treatment both in Japonica and Tongil type rice plants. And with the same varieties N-uptake and N use-efficiency were compared between 10.0 mM and 1.0 mM nitrogen using $70\%$ ammonium and $30\%$ nitrate for 24 days after transplanting. Rice plants absorbed more nitrogen$(131\~145\%)$ in 10.0mM than 1.0mM treatment but accumulated N in rice plants were almost the same in both treatment. Among the tested rice cultivars, dry matter production and total accumulative nitrogen in rice plants were much high in Tongil type than japonica type rice cultivars. N-recovery ratios of rice plants from uptake N were $90.8-99.0\%$ in low concentration N solution(1.0 mM), but $69.4-81.7\%$ were observed in high concentration N solution(10.0 mM). It means that suppling low concentration N steadily will be better to prevent loss of N without reducing of growth in rice plants.

  • The purposes of this research are to identify the source and to analyze the pathway of nitrate contamination in "cultural village", Jeungpyeong. In order to examine recharge processes and flow pattern that closely related to the influent of nitrate contaminant, the flow field was simulated and the oxygen and hydrogen stable isotopes were analyzed. The nitrogen isotope was used to delineate contaminant sources. The shallow groundwater was mainly composed of precipitation, but leakage of domestic water and sewage contributed to the recharge. Nitrate contaminants were possibly from the leakage of sewage and animal waste. The nitrate concentration decreased due to dilution by low concentration water.ion water.

  • Nitrate reductase activity(nra) were analysed in roots, stems and leaves plants in relation to different nitrogen sources and plastochron ages. Nra in roors and stems of soybean observed no differences in influence the nitrogen sources and plastochron ages, and the values showed to be only 5% of NRA in leaves. On the other hand,NRA in the leaves showed different result to nitrgen sources and plastochron ages. When the plants were less than PI6.0, NRA in leaves had being proportional to the concentration of nitrate and distingush decreased with an increasing plastochron age. At the later stage, upper than PI 8.0, the actvity had not effect to nitrate and plastochron ages. These results indicated that nitrate reduction in soybean was in early leaves.

  • This study was conducted to determine the physiological differences betweenhealthy and wilted plants with respect to nitrate assimilation and ascorbic acid content. Wilting was artificially induced in spinach plants by treating the seeds with nutrient solution containing high nitrogen and low potassium. The plants were cultured in different plots 4 types of media: 1N-1P-1K (control), 6N-1P-0K (0K), 6N-1P-0.5K (0.5K), and 6N-1P-2K (2K). The rate of wilting among the plants was as follows: control, 0%; 2K, 10%; 0.5K, 40%; and 0K, 70%. This shows that under high nitrogen conditions, the lower the amount of potassium provided, higher was the rate of wilting. There were no differences in plant growth among the plants treated with different levels of potassium under high nitrogen conditions. The nitrate content in both the leaves and the roots was higher in plants grown under high nitrogen media than those in the control. Furthermore, the nitrate level decreased with increasing potassium concentration. The ascorbic acid content of spinach under high nitrogen conditions was lower than those of the control.

  • To establish N fertilizer recommendation method based on nitrate content of the soil for the Chinese cabbage grown in the plastic film house. Chinese cabbage was grown in the pots containing the plastic film house soils with various levels of $NO_3{^-}-N$ and different levels of fertilizer N. The nitrate nitrogen showed the positive correlation with nitrogen uptake amount by plant and the negative correlation with fertilizer nitrogen use efficiency of plant. The content of nitrate nitrogen in soil for maximum yield of Chinese cabbage was 310 mg/kg. An equation for the recommendation of fertilizer N for Chinese cabbage based on $NO_3{^-}-N$ in the soil was suggested.
