야간사용량 측정을 통한 배급수구역 배경야간최소유량 산정 (Estimation of background minimum night flows by metering water use in water distribution areas)

  • The aim of this study is to develop a quantified water loss Index to evaluate and manage leakage scientifically for the reduction of non-revenue water in water distribution systems. For the purpose, unavoidable background leakage suggested from UK water industry and IWA, and allowable water leakage in accord with the concept of allowable water loss are proposed by analyzing the inflow into two study water districts and the short-term water use of each customer in the districts. The study distribution areas are selected among the metered districts with good maintenance of leakage after improvement activities in Nonsan, medium sized city in Korea. Estimation models of allowable leakage are developed by metering and analyzing the minimum night flow at residential and commercial areas in the city. In the results of the investigation, it is estimated that background night flow in residential area was larger than that of commercial area where the types of business shows small water use characteristics. Meanwhile, night flow and background water loss on internal plumbing systems show great differences for each district which is influenced much by the water use characteristics and facilities scale. Based on metering water use data in various districts, leakage management criteria can be established under the consideration of domestic conditions in Korea by analyzing separated real water use and background leakage and it is possible to apply into presentation of optimal leakage level and reasonable time for working activities for leakage reduction.

상수도 관망 유량관측 자료의 주성분 분석을 위한 분석기간의 설정 (Identifying an Appropriate Analysis Duration for the Principal Component Analysis of Water Pipe Flow Data)

  • In this study the Principal Component Analysis (PCA) was applied to flow data in a water distribution pipe system to analyze the relevance between the flow observation dates, which have the outliers of observed night flows, and the maintenance records. The data was obtained from four small size water distribution blocks to which 13 maintenance records such as pipe leak and water meter leak belong. The flow data during four months were used for the analysis. The analysis was carried out to identify an appropriate analysis period for a PCA model for a water distribution block. To facilitate the analyses a computational algorithm was developed. MATLAB was utilized to realize the algorithm as a computer program. As a result, an appropriate PCA period for each of the case study small size water distribution blocks was identified.

Characteristics of the Polar Ionosphere Based on the Chatanika and Sondrestrom Incoherent Scatter Radars

  • The climatological characteristics of the polar ionospheric currents obtained from the simultaneous observations of the ionospheric electric field and conductivity are examined. For this purpose, 43 and 109 days of measurements from the Chatanika and Sondrestrom incoherent scatter radars are utilized respectively. The ionospheric current density is compared with the corresponding ground magnetic disturbance. Several interesting characteristics about the polar ionosphere are apparent from this study: (1) The sun determines largely the conductance over the Sondrestrom radar, while the nighttime conductance distribution over the Chatanika radar is significantly affected by auroral precipitation. (2) The regions of the maximum N-S electric field over the Chatanika radar are located approximately at the dawn and dusk sectors, while they tend to shift towards dayside over the Sondrestrom radar. The N-S component over Son-drestrom is slightly stronger than Chatanika. However, the E-W component over Chatanika is negligible compared to that of Sondrestrom. (3) The E-W ionospheric current flows dominantly in the night hemisphere over Chatanika, while it flows in the sunlit hemisphere over Sondrestrom. The N-S current over Chatanika flows prominently in the dawn and dusk sectors, while a strong southward current flows in the prenoon sector over Sondrestrom. (4) The assumption of infinite sheet current approximation is far from realistic, underestimating the current density by a factor of 2 or more. It is particularly serious for the higher latitude region. (5) The correlation between ${\Delta}H\;and\;J_E$ is higher than the one between ${\Delta}D\;and\;J_N$, indicating that field-aligned current affects ${\Delta}D$significantly.

Investigation into the Internal Flow Characteristics of a Pump-turbine Model

  • This is a study about one of the most widely used hydro machinery all over the world - pump-turbine. The system has an impeller which pumps water to an upper reservoir during the night and the same impeller acts as a runner for turbine mode during the day for providing stable electrical power to the grid. The internal flow analysis is investigated in this study to help understand how the water passes through the passage of the vanes and blades, providing the designer with useful information on the behavior of recirculation flows which could reduce the efficiency of the pump-turbine. The 100 kW pump-turbine model has H = 32 m, $Q=0.336m^3/s$ and $N=1200min^{-1}$. For this study there are 7 blades, 19 stay vanes and 20 guide vanes. From this study, it was observed that this pump-turbine design showed very good internal flow characteristics with no flow separation and no recirculation flows in normal operation mode.

  • A street light is an electrical equipment to improve the traffic safety and the security for people in night. However, many accidents due to electric shock have happened in recent, people were interested in the safety of electrical facilities. And people want to know the danger by touch and step voltages. When the electric power lines fall down on the ground, the fault current flows to ground rod and the potential near the ground rod is increased to induce the high touch and step voltages. In this paper, we installed different ground rods with a street light and investigated the electrical potential according to ground methods and the types of ground rod. Finally, we examined the electrical facilities with the experimental result and present the improved technical data for the safety from electric shock

고시조에서 현대시로 이동된 치유의 서정 (Healing Emotion Moved from Gosijo to Modern Poem)

  • 이 연구는 고시조의 정서가 현대시에 어떻게 흘러들어왔는지에 대해 살펴보는 것이다. 그리하여 고시조와 현대시의 간극에 머물고 있는 치유적 장치들을 문학치료에 활용하기 위한 목적을 지니고 있다. 고시조의 극심한 고독과 고요가 현대시로 침습되어 잠이 오지 않는 고독의 밤을 연출하고 있다. 고시조의 감정을 지닌 문장들이 현대시에서는 달라져 있지만, 고시조와 현대시는 같은 감정을 공유하고 있다. 이러한 문학적 장치는 현대인들에게 치유의 정서를 제공해준다. 이러한 연구는 이후의 문학치료의 활성화에 기여하게 될 것으로 사료된다.

정화조의 효율적인 운영을 위한 실험적 고찰 (An Experimental Investigation for Efficient Operation of Septic Tank)

  • A septic tank is a purification treatment system where night soil and other waste matter is converted into harmless material by the activities of bacteria. Effluent from the septic tank flows into the sewer pipe, and then this effluent affects the quality of water environment and makes foul smell. In this study, through the proper maintenance of septic tank it was tried to minimize the impact of sewer pipe on water quality and fouling smell. BOD removal rate from the septic tank's effluent which exceeded legal cleaning period was investigated for the proper maintenance. BOD Removal rate of the twelve septic tank's effluent is -62.5% to 43.9%. According to the result of BOD removal rate, septic tank cleaning should be done at least once a year. And the pathogenic coliform bacillus in the twelve septic tank's effluent is average 768,000 (MPN/$100m{\ell}$). The chlorine disinfection is needed to remove the pathogenic coliform bacillus in septic tank effluent.

대한해협의 부유성 모악류의 수직분포와 수괴 유동 (The Distribution of Chaetognaths in the Korea Strait and Their Relation to the Character of Water Masses)

  • 1972년 6,8 및 10월에 대한 해협의 5개 정점에서 주야 층별 채집을 실시하여 층별 분포 조성과 수괴지표성의 해양학적 고찰을 하였다. 1. 부유생물의 양은 0.9-8.5cc/10㎥ 이며 층별 분포량은 상층이 하층보다 많고, 밤과 낮에 있어서는 밤은 상층이 많으나 낮은 하층이 많은 경향을 나타내었다. 2. 출현한 모악규는 3속 19종 1형이며 분포량과 종류수는 상층이 하층보다 많은 편이고, 밤은 상층이 많으나, 낮은 일정치 않으나 밤과의 반대 경향이었다. 양이 가장 풍부한 8월에는 수직적인 큰 차이를 볼 수 없을만큼 저층까지 많이 출현하였다. 3. 8월에 있어서 Sagitta enflata, S. serratodentata 및 S. mimima 특히 S. regularis의 저층의 대량 분포는 해양학적 고찰에서 난류의 침강을 가리키고 있다. 4. 한해성인 S. elegans의 분포층은 저층에 한하고 부산-대마도간까지 출현하며, 한편 St.5에서는 Metridia lucens 와 Pseudocalanus minutus가 출현하여 저층 냉수의 용승 수직, 수평적인 유동범위를 실증하는데 더욱 뒷받침 하였다. 5. S. decipiens는 대한 해협에서 저, 중층수의 유동 및 연안의 용승 현상을 판정하는 지표종임을 밝혔다.

유역의 찬공기 특성을 고려한 도시 바람길 활용 전략 - 경기도 의정부 및 과천 일대를 사례로 - (Strategies for utilizing Urban Ventilation Corridor considering Local Cold Air in Watershed Areas - A Case Study of Uijeongbu and Gwacheon -)

  • 본 연구는 찬공기 특성을 유역단위로 분석하고, 유역 내 생성되는 찬공기를 도시 바람길 계획에서 활용하는 방안을 제안하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위해, 경기도 지역의 북쪽에 위치한 중랑천 유역의 의정부시, 남쪽에 위치한 안양천 유역 및 양재천 탄천 유역의 과천시를 연구 대상지로 선정하였다. 찬공기 특성 분석을 위해 독일에서 개발된 모형인 KALM(Kaltluftabflussmodell)을 활용하였으며, 야간 6시간 동안 생성되는 찬공기 흐름 및 찬공기층 높이를 파악하였다. 중랑천 유역의 주요 바람길이 흐르는 곳에 위치해 있는 의정부시는 남쪽 외곽에서부터 유입된 찬공기가 의정부시 전체 바람길 계획의 중요한 부분을 차지하고 있다. 또한, 서쪽의 사패산 일대에서 생성된 찬공기는 시청 인근의 중심상업지구까지 유입되고 있어 도심의 열환경을 조절하는 주요한 역할을 수행하는 것으로 판단된다. 반면, 의정부시 동쪽지역은 바람길 이용이 원활하지 않는 것으로 파악되었다. 동쪽의 관악산과 서쪽의 청계산 등에서 생성된 찬공기 흐름은 과천시의 북쪽 지역에서 가장 활발하였는데, 이 흐름은 안양천 및 양재천 탄천 유역 전체에서도 주요한 바람길이다. 이에 비해, 찬공기 흐름이 원활하지 않은 남쪽지역에 '과천지식정보타운 공공주택지구' 조성이 계획되어 있어 향후 이 지역의 주거환경이 저하될 가능성이 크다. 향후, 이 지역을 개발할 경우 상세한 바람길 분석을 통한 바람길 활용 계획을 추가적으로 수립할 것을 제안하였다.

군집분석과 상세기상모델을 통한 포항지역 계절별 바람장 특성 (The Characteristics of Seasonal Wind Fields around the Pohang Using Cluster Analysis and Detailed Meteorological Model)

  • The typical characteristics of seasonal winds were studied around the Pohang using two-stage (average linkage then k-means) clustering technique based on u- and v-component wind at 850 hpa from 2004 to 2006 (obtained the Pohang station) and a high-resolution (0.5 km grid for the finest domain) WRF-UCM model along with an up-to-date detailed land use data during the most predominant pattern in each season. The clustering analysis identified statistically distinct wind patterns (7, 4, 5, and 3 clusters) representing each spring, summer, fall, and winter. During the spring, the prevailed pattern (80 days) showed weak upper northwesterly flow and late sea-breeze. Especially at night, land-breeze developed along the shoreline was converged around Yeongil Bay. The representative pattern (92 days) in summer was weak upper southerly flow and intensified sea-breeze combined with sea surface wind. In addition, convergence zone between the large scale background flow and well-developed land-breeze was transported around inland (industrial and residential areas). The predominant wind distribution (94 days) in fall was similar to that of spring showing weak upper-level flow and distinct sea-land breeze circulation. On the other hand, the wind pattern (117 days) of high frequency in winter showed upper northwesterly and surface westerly flows, which was no change in daily wind direction.
