  • The genus Nippoleucon was newly established within the family Leuconidae and two Hemileucon species, N. hinumensis (Gamo, 1967) and N. enoshimensis (Gamo, 1967), were transferred to this genus. Through examination of the cumacean specimens from the Gwangyang Bay of the Korea Strait, N. hinumensis is recorded as new to Korean fauna. The genus Nippoleucon is reported from Korea for the first time.

  • Both the genus Malthacus Kirby and M. angusticollis (Motschulsky) are reported for the first time in Korea. Five North Korean specimens of M. angusticollis were loaned from Hungarian Natural History Museum, Budapest, Hungary and Sungshin Women's University, Seoul, Korea. Here we provide a key to the genus of the Podabrini in Korea and a diagnosis and taxonomic account of the genus Malthacus and M. angusticollis.

  • Two species of mysid, Nipponomysis fusca (Ii, 1936) and N. tenuiculus (Ii, 1940), are newly recorded in Korean fauna. These two species were collected using a light or a bait trap from all coasts of the Korean peninsula. The genus Nipponomysis can be distinguished from allied genus by the following morphological characteristics: third to eighth thoracic endopods with carpopropodus divided into five to six subsegments compared to three subsegments, and anterior four pairs of pleopod in female subequal in length and fifth pair elongated. Nipponomysis fusca is characterized by its acute rostral plate and armature of telson, and N. tenuiculus differs from other species by the number of spine in ventral statocyst region and the shape of the fourth pleopod in male. Herein, we present detailed descriptions of two species from Korean waters with illustrations of morphology. In addition, an identification key to the Korean species of the genus is provided.

  • In this study, we conduct a review of the genus Taeniogonalos Schulz, 1906, which belongs to the subfamily Trigonalinae (Hymenoptera: Trigonalidae) from Korea. The genus Taeniogonalos Schulz is recognized as a relatively small genus. Taeniogonalos comprises 53 described species worldwide, including nine species identified in the Eastern Palaearctic region. A total of four species have been recognized from Korea. This paper enumerates the known species in Korea, including the new record. We provide the diagnosis and photographs for the newly recorded species. Additionally, we present a key to the Korean species of Taeniogonalos Schulz, 1906.

  • A harpacticoid species, Paramphiascella fulvofasciata Rosenfield and Coull, 1974, belonging to Miraciidae Dana, 1846 is newly reported from Korean waters. The species is mostly related with P. pacifica Vervoort, 1962, however, it is easily distinguished by the typical structure of male P2 in having 1 large spine and 2 setae on P2 enp-2. Korean materials represented some discrepancies from the original description of P. fulvofasciata in the detailed structures of mouth parts. The present study is a first record of the genus Paramphiascella Lang, 1944 from Korean waters.

  • The oligochaete worms in the genus Nais are common to freshwater habitats. These worms have a highly-developed prostomium and pigmented eye spots. All species have hair chaetae, bifid or single pointed needle chaetae on the dorsal side and ventral chaetae beginning in II with bifid crotchets. Most species of Nais genus live in areas where bottom is covered by sand, gravel or organic matter in aquatic plants. Currently, 26 species of Nais have been recorded worldwide. From the recent faunal studies, 3 species of Nais have been newly reported in Korea. Here, we newly report 6 species of Nais with diagnosis, illustrations and identification keys to Korean Nais species: N. behningi, N. pseudobtusa, N. simplex, N. bretscheri, N. stolci and N. elinguis.

  • This study summarizes the taxonomic notes and distribution of 13 taxa of the genus Scenedesmus (Chlorophyceae) collected from several swamps, reservoirs, and rivers throughout South Korea from 2012 to 2014. In this study, light microscopy images of all 13 taxa are presented and briefly discussed with regard to their taxonomy, distribution, and ecology and environmental factors of occurrence sites. All 3 subgenera (subgenus Scenedesmus 1 taxon; subgenus Acutodesmus 2 taxa; subgenus Desmodesmus 10 taxa) are newly described in Korean freshwater algal flora: S. linearis, S. acuminatus var. elongatus, S. acuminatus var. tetradesmoides, S. carinatus, S. denticulatus var. disciformis, S. gutwinskii var. heterospina, S. helveticus f. bicaudatus, S. lefevrei, S. oahuensis var. clathratus f. longiclathratus, S. oahuensis var. clathratus, S. pannonicus, S. polydenticulatus, and S. tenuispina.

  • Two monstrilloid copepod species belonging to the genus Monstrilla Dana are newly recorded from Korea: M. grandis Giesbrecht, 1891 and M. hamatapex Grygier and Ohtsuka, 1995. Specimens were obtained from inshore waters around the coasts of South Korea, using a light trap installed at quays and wharves overnight. Based on the Korean specimens, the two species are redescribed, with brief accounts of their affinities and morphological variabilities. Remarkable morphological discrepancies are confirmed in female leg 5 of M. grandis between type material from Southern Hemisphere and European and Asian specimens, which raise a strong doubt on their conspecificity. Korean specimens of M. hamatapex well coincide with the type specimens from Japan, except for some variations in the setal armature of leg 5 and antennules. This is the second taxonomic paper on the monstrilloid copepods in Korea, and the genus Monstrilla is newly added to Korean fauna.
