  • Two newly recorded species of Melastomataceae, Medinilla rubicunda and M. septentrionalis, were found from the Phnom Bokor National Park and the Central Cardamom Protected Forest in Cambodia. Medinilla rubicunda is similar to M. laurifolia from Indonesia (Sumatra and Java) and Thailand, but is readily distinguished from the latter by its shorter petiole and a cyme bearing fewer than six flowers. Medinilla septentrionalis is similar to M. nana from China (Yunnan) and Vietnam, but is clearly distinguished from the latter by its terete branchlets, which have a thin and not a corky bark. Descriptions, photographs, and a diagnostic key of the three species of Cambodian Medinilla are provided for species identification.

  • Three species belonging to genera Acaphylla Keifer and Calacarus Keifer (Prostigmata: Eriophyidae) that cause damage to Camellia (Theaceae) plants, have been newly recorded in Korea. The three species, Acaphylla theae (Watt), Acaphylla theavagrans Kadono, and Calacarus carinatus (Green), have been redescribed and illustrated. Keys to Korean species of the genus Acaphylla; their distribution; and biological information, such as host plants and damage symptoms, are also presented.

  • A sea urchin was collected from Geomundo Island of Jeollanam-do, Korea on July 3, 2009. This specimen was classified as Spatangus luetkeni A. Agassiz 1872 belonging to the family Spatangidae of order Spatangoida based on the morphological characteristics. This genus and species are newly recorded in Korea. It is distinct morphological characters that test is thick and strong, six to eight primary tubercles are in 1 and 4 interambulacra, sternum is equipped with little keel, and color in alcohol is dark violet. This species inhabits tropical waters and usually distributes over the West Pacific from southern Japan to New Zealand.

  • Euryalid specimens were collected from Gonghyeonjin and Daejin, Gangwon-do in the East Sea, Korea at a depth of 250-300 m by fishing nets on November 2013 and August 2014. They were identified as Gorgonocephalus arcticus Leach, 1819 belonging to family Gorgonocephalidae of order Euryalida, which was new to the Korean fauna. Nucleotide sequences of partial mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase I (mt-COI) gene, which was 569 bp in length, were compared among four Gorgonocephalus species, and were subsequently employed to reconstruct phylogenetic trees using the MP, ML, and BI methods. As a result, no sequence difference was found between the G. arcticus mt-COI gene sequences from Korea and Canada, and the two made a strong monophyletic group. With the newly recorded G. arcticus in Korea, in total, four Gorgonocephalus species have been reported in Korea.

  • The specimens belonging to the family Biphyllidae were collected at Mt. Baekun-san (Nonsil and Hanjae), Jeollanam-do with Lindgren funnel traps from May to August, 2015. Through this study, we report seven species of the genus Biphyllus including three newly recorded species; B. aequalis (Reitter), B. flexuosus (Reitter) and B. kuzurius Sasaji. We herein present the key to the identification of species of the Korean Biphyllidae and illustrations of diagnostic characteristics of them.

  • A total of 56 genera and 101 species of the fly family Tephritidae have been previously recorded in Korea. As a result of an ongoing study of this family, I report the following ten additional species new to Korea: Actinoptera montana (Meijere, 1924), Actinoptera reticulata Ito, 1984, Campiglossa luxorientis(Hering, 1940), C. melanochroa (Hering, 1941), C. quadriguttata (Hendel, 1927), C. shensiana (Chen, 1938), Oxyna gansuica Wang, 1998, Tephritis jocaste Hering, 1953, Tephritis okera (Shinji, 1940), and Trupanea guttistella (Hering, 1951). Among the five genera involved here, the genus Actinoptera Rondani, 1871 is recognized for the first time in Korea. Therefore, 57 genera and 111 species are now officially recognized for the Korean tephritid fauna. For each newly recognized Korean species, I provide new Korean name, synonymy, taxonomic diagnosis and color photographs. When possible, I list the host records and discuss their intraspecific variability and sexual dimorphism.

  • A newly recorded species, Sinocorophium dongtanense, of the genus Sinocorophium was collected from shallow waters of Korea. This species was previously reported as S. homoceratum in Korea. However, after reanalysis of previously studied samples, this species was identified as S. dongtanense, which had previously been reported from the Yangtze estuary, Shanghai, China in 2014. In this study, the newly recorded species is illustrated with a diagnosis and compared to the previously misidentified species. Molecular phylogenetic studies for Sinocorophium species in Korea are provided. A key to the Sinocorophium species in Korea is also provided.
