  • This study was carried out on freshwater chlorococcal green algae in ponds, swamps, reservoirs, lakes and rivers (290 sites) from May 2012 to January 2014. The family Radiococaceae was identified and classified into 3 genera, 12 species and 1 variety at 23 sites. These taxa were Eutetramorus. nygaardii, E. tetraporus, E. planctonicus, E. fottii, E. globosus, E. polycoccus, Coenocystis planctonica, C. planctonica var. hercynica, C. micrococca, C. subcylindrica, Gloeocystis baneergattensis, G. papuana, and G. polydermatica. These taxa may or not had remnants of the cell wall in the colonial gelatinous envelope for a short time. Of these, 2 taxa are newly recorded in Korea from this study: 1) C. micrococca and 2) G. polydermatica.

  • Hypsicera has been reported six species from South Korea. In this study, we reviewed 13 species of South Korean Hypsicera including seven newly recorded species from South Korea. Female of H. brevicornis and H. nigribasis are reported for the first time from South Korea since first record. Additionally, H. incarinata and H. yoshimoboi are reported new to China. We provide diagnoses of six newly recorded species and descriptions of two new females. We also provide photographs of key characters of seven newly recorded species and a key to 13 species of South Korean Hypsicera.

  • A total of sixteen Xylotrechus species from the Korean peninsula are recognized, including a newly recorded species, Xylotrechus pavlovskii Plavilstshikov, 1954. We present brief descriptions of the Korean Xylotrechus species, except four species which could not be examined in this study. The geographic distribution, host plants, illustrations for each species, and a key to the Korean Xylotrechus species are provided.

  • The freshwater algae were collected at reservoirs and small ponds in Gyeonggi-do and Jeju-do on June 2016. Four species of Korean previously unrecorded algae were collected in domestic fresh waters: Coelastrum rugosum, Cosmarium baccatum, Cosmarium norimbergense and Staurastrum connatum var. pseudoamericanum. The morphological characteristics of the four taxa identified in this study were showed mostly similar to the characteristics of the previously reported characteristics. However, Cosmarium baccatum was larger than the previously recorded species and Staurastrum connatum var. pseudoamericanum was wider than the previously recorded species.

  • A rare genus Leptodromiella Tuomikoski, 1936, which belongs to the subfamily Ocydromiinae in the family Hybotidae contains only one recorded speices, L. crassiseta (Tuomikoski, 1932). Until now, there is still no known ecological information about this genus, and its distribution was restricted to only in central and northern Europe, such as Finland, Sweden and Russia. In Korea, only one species, Bicellaria koreana Barták, Plant & Kubík, 2013, was recorded in the family Hybotidae from Mt. Baekdusan so far. Herein, the second genus Leptodromiella is newly recorded along with the nominate species, L. crassiseta (Tuomikoski, 1932) in Korean fauna. Re-description and illustrations of external features and male genitalia of the newly recorded species are provided in this paper.

  • Two newly recorded small orb weavers, Araneus yasudai Tanikawa, 2001 and Neoscona flavida sp. nov., with characteristic epigynal scape belonging to Araneidae are described with measurements and morphological illustrations from Korea. Both species were collected with sweep net between shrubs and bushes in mountain forest and between reeds in reclaimed land, respectively.

  • Many spiders belonging to Enoplognatha Pavesi, 1880 and Parasteatoda Archer, 1946 of Theridiidae were collected with sweep net between shrubs and bushes in the mountain forest during a survey of the mountain spider fauna. Among the spiders collected, male Enoplognatha gramineusa Zhu, 1998 and female Parasteatoda ryukyu (Yoshida 2000) were recognized as newly recorded spiders to Korean spider fauna. The present work describes these two spiders with measurements and morphological illustrations.
