  • An epiphytic bladed member of the Bangiales was found growing in Christchurch (South Island, New Zealand). Molecular sequence data and morphological comparisons revealed that the New Zealand specimens belong to the species Pyropia koreana (M. S. Hwang & I. K. Lee) M. S. Hwang, H. G. Choi, Y. S. Oh & I. K. Lee. This is the first record of Py. koreana in the southern hemisphere and a new record of an introduced species in New Zealand.

  • We performed a taxonomic study on Korean Pacificincolidae (Bryozoa: Cheilostomata) with the materials collected from 39 localities(ports, intertidal and subtidal zones) in the coastal seas of South Korea from 1981 to 2020. Korean Mucronella perforata reported by Rho and Seo (1985) turned out to be not Pacificincola perforata, but Primavelans glabricollaris n. sp. based on morphological data. Pacificincola perforata, which was transferred from Mucronella perforata (Okada and Mawatari, 1937), is also added to the Korean fauna. This study is the first to use mitochondrial 16S rRNA gene sequences to study the family Paficincolidae. The NJ analysis also reconfirmed the validity of the genus Primavelans, established on the basis of the early astogeny by De Blauwe in 2006, with the mitochondrial 16S rRNA sequences. The inter-genetic distance among two species belong to the Pacificincolidae was in the range of 13.39±1.83 mm. Primavelans glabricollaris n. sp. is thus distinguished from Pacificincola perforata with both morphological and molecular data. A new species, Primavelans glabricollaris, and a new record, Pacificincola perforata from Korea are herein described in detail and illustrated by scanning electron microscopy.

  • The Turbinellidae shell Columbarium pagoda pagoda (Lesson, 1834), from the southern coast of Korea was recorded as new to the Korean molluscan fauna. The shell is typically solid and fusiform, with a well elongated spire and long anterior canal, and keel with a row developed spine. The protoconch is small, planorboid to depressed dome-shaped. The family Turbinellidae is reported from Korea for the first time.

  • The species of the genus Chlorociboria Seaver are very common on the forest floor, and can be easily distinguished by small and numerous blue-green fruitbody, especially the blue substrate dyed with xylindein produced by this group. This genus has rather high species diversity in the Southern Hemisphere, while a little attention was paid to this group in East Asia area. During a field survey in South Korea, several Chlorociboria specimens were collected. Based on morphological and phylogenetic analyses, three species of Chlorociboria were reported, including one new record in South Korea and one new record in Jeju Island. The key to the species of Chlorociboria from South Korea is provided.

  • Psenes arafurensis, belonging to the family Nomeidae, is described based on four specimens (184.8-199.0 mm in standard length) collected from Korea. The species is most similar to the congeneric species P. maculatus and P. pellucidus, but differs from them in the number of lateral-line scales. (44-47 in P. arafurensis vs 67-70 in P. maculatus and 120 in P. pellucidus) and the number of vertebrae (31 in P. arafurensis vs 34-38 in P. maculatus and 40-42 in P. pellucidus). The present study is a new record of P. arafurensis with voucher specimens from Korean waters.

  • An alpheid shrimp Betaeus gelasinifer Nomura and Komai, 2000 new to Korean waters is described and illustrated based on two specimens collected from Changseun and Ulleungdo Island, Korea. This is the first record of B. gelasinifer outside Japanese waters. B. gelasinifer is readily separated from B. granulimanus Yokoya, 1927, the only member of Betaeus from Korea by the morphological differences in the first pereopods and the diaeresis of uropod. Brief note on the armature of cutting edge of the chela of the left first pereopod in Korean female specimen of B. gelasinifer is provided.

  • A specimen of Aetobatus flagellum was collected at Uljin in June 2005 for the first time in Korea. This specimen is characterized by the cephalic fin, the long snout, the dorsal fin between pelvic fins, spiracles on the dorsal side of the disc, the deeply notched nasal curtain and the one row of the teeth in the lower and the upper jaws. And unlike Aetobatus narinari, it does not have any spots on the its dorsal side of the disc. We report this specimen as the first record from Korea and name it 'Bak-jui-ga-o-ri' in Korean.

  • Papenfussiella densa was described as Papenfussiella kuromo f. densa from Japan by Inagaki in 1958. P. densa has been recognized as an endemic and independent species based on the molecular analyses of type material without detailed morphological observations. In this study, Papenfussiella densa is reported as a new record from Dok-do, South Korea, based on morphological and molecular analyses. Papenfussiella densa is mainly characterized as having narrow, branched, slimy, and tomentose thalli with branchlets, partially hollow in the medulla of the middle part. The molecular analyses of the chloroplast rbcL-rbcS DNA sequence of the Papenfussiella densa sample from Korea revealed that it matched that of P. densa from Japan and was nested in the clade of Papenfussiella. There was only a 0.02% gene sequence divergence between the Korean and Japanese samples. We report P. densa as a new record from Korea and add this species to the list of Korean macroalgal flora.

  • In this study, we conduct a review of the genus Taeniogonalos Schulz, 1906, which belongs to the subfamily Trigonalinae (Hymenoptera: Trigonalidae) from Korea. The genus Taeniogonalos Schulz is recognized as a relatively small genus. Taeniogonalos comprises 53 described species worldwide, including nine species identified in the Eastern Palaearctic region. A total of four species have been recognized from Korea. This paper enumerates the known species in Korea, including the new record. We provide the diagnosis and photographs for the newly recorded species. Additionally, we present a key to the Korean species of Taeniogonalos Schulz, 1906.
