Thanks to the recent apartment housing sales in new cities and metropolitan area, the public-use furniture market is greatly animated with the development of customized furniture. Nevertheless, the situation becomes difficult because of the fierce competition among the furniture suppliers with quoting at the lower price to get the order. In order to produce unique and stylish living cabinets, it is required for the furniture designer to create the design under the systematic design process collaborated with the construction company and make the design proposal thereby to the construction company. The present paper is focused on the re-usability of TV set currently possessed by the tenant, variability, uniqueness, pricing level suitable for the cost of real estate sales, modern design and so on. in the development of apartment living room cabinet. Thus, it is important for the furniture supplier to realize the importance of the design field in order to enhance the competitiveness of the customized furniture in the apartment housing. Accordingly the present researcher has developed the modem variable living room cabinet in accordance with the systemic design process by realizing the leads of tenant of the apartment housing and then establishing the concept focused on the design required by both the tenant and construction company.

The modern unique woodworking furniture has been made in earnest from 50 years ago. Some oil from nut such as soybean, walnut and perilla, which is usually used in our common life, has been used as finishing material for the unique woodworking furniture. Recently, woodworking studio business among the whole furniture industry has grown gradually and many woodworkers uses various kinds of imported wood finishing oil. Many woodworkers use the imported finishing oil in the old ways instead of understanding the characters of the various kind of oil and It causes some serious problems in furniture finishing process. Therefore, this study aims at taking theoretical approach in wood finishing oil and presenting correct usage in understanding the types and characters of oil. Resultingly the new method of oil finishing for wood is suggested and this suggestion is to guide woodworkers into the right usage of wood finishing oil.

With changing systems of wealth creation around the 21st century, crafts(traditional and industrial crafts) are affected by the trend of changes or lead the trend, that is to say, a turning point of paradigm has come. Values of crafts give the value of users, and the tradition and modern coexists in the trend of times changing from the tradition to the modern so crafts artists’ works are diversified and used in design industries. Based on a place of expression showing various beauty of crafts, identity of design is established through ‘Craft Consilience’ of intangible cultural assets, master craftsman, crafts artists, crafts industries, and crafts departments. As master craftsman and furniture designers meet together to mix master craftsman’s idea with designers’ idea, the new Korean crafts furniture is suggested.

This study is carried out to introduce the concept of Kagome structure as the new trial for the furniture design and the feasibility of its utilization in furniture industry. Kagome means originally the two dimensional bamboo-basket woven pattern that is composed of interlaced triangles whose lattice points each have four neighboring points, which was used in traditional bamboo craft design like 'Jukbuin(bamboo-wife)'. Its unique truss structure has been widely used by many kinds of the domain of science and engineering in mechanical and architectural industry with some merits, i,e, material utilization efficiency and robust strength. Here we tried to introduce two dimensional and three dimensional form of Kagome which are supposed to be a furniture design elements. Authors think these Kagome design could be realized with domestic lumber of inferior properties. Both of them would be used as a decorative element or mechanical supporter in furniture design.

This is a study on methods for designers of furniture and products to generate and develop design concept in consideration of design and existing conditions of the space when they design street furniture. In particular, in case when they participate in a process of designing new space, this study aims to reveal methods generating strategic elements and basic ideas for designing street furniture through cases study of projects by understanding and analyzing concept of overall space design and by extracting artistic elements for deployment of specific designs. First, Design DNA, which decides overall flow of design concept of street furniture, is extracted through analyses of basic concepts of space design. Next, by applying 3V Design Process, alternatives of the concept generation are suggested through methods of storytelling and design language under the two approach methods of verbalization stage and visualization stage. Also its methods were explored through suggestion of designs by developing each idea of the respective concepts into specific design vocabulary.

The purpose of the study is to explore the possibilities for translating the images and meaning of Chinese characters into furniture. Using Chinese characters as designing sources for furniture has a lot of possibilities to inspire originative and creative works. When using images of characters, totally peculiar and new shapes of furniture which have great esthetic value can be considered. The functions of furniture are related to the meanings of characters. Therefore, the furniture could be recognized by the characters from which the works were formed. In the process of interpreting two dimensional letters in three dimensional forms, the graphic elements and values of the characters as two dimensional objects should be analyzed. In order to express the characters completely, both esthetic shapes and the essences of characters should be blended. For the effective translating work, the method of expression may require exaggerating, simplifying and abbreviating the shapes of characters.

The purpose of this study is developing basic module of kitchen furniture design by considering the dimensions of work-surfaces, such as the size of worktable and the length of the kitchen furniture based on the physical size of a human scale and the behavior in the kitchen and the size of goods. In conclusion, this study develops a basic module of the kitchen furniture and suggests the new dimension for the kitchen based on the human scale and demand for the kitchen goods thus, it is expected to use it as a basic data for the kitchen space study and kitchen furniture industry.

The bentwood technique was introduced for the Windsor chair for the first time in the 18th Century. It was Michael Thonet who produced the bentwood chair in Austria around the 1870's, and it has changed the perception of architects and designers since then. The bentwood chair suggested a new and eccentric way of manufacturing furniture and the process of producing materials for it. Moreover, the method of furniture assembling, with screw nails, made a positive contribution not only to the convenience of transport and distribution of furniture to anywhere in the world, but also to the development of mass production of furniture for the multitudes. The bentwood technique of Michael Thonet was developed much further by Alvar Aalto, who inferred a soft curve from nature and developed the beauty of modern laminated bentwood by using birch, a plentiful resource of Finland. This study will help us to understand the functions and process of bentwood furniture, and help to develop technical skills for diverse furniture design. It will also confirm that diverse bentwood furniture design will be possible by applying materials, technical skills and the design process of bentwood according to the characteristics and concept of furniture design.

If environmental aesthetics contains the whole area of grand beauty of nature and the meaning of the urban landscape, the urban landscape is defined 'fine view of urban, or beautiful sight' therefore, we must look for the wary to introduce and solve the aesthetic problem with a new paradym of the urban landscape. Such environmental aesthetics as to seek a new planning for the urban landscape can provide a new meaning for urban environment design by extracting design elements of street furniture resulted form aesthetic evaluation in context of formation aesthetics to review the aesthetic value and substance, and explain aesthetic experience, and explain aesthetic experience of urban the landscape.

This study aims to find new solutions to the problem of utilization of materials and techniques represented in the development of modern lighting design. LED is an important component in modern lighting design and pine tree is one of the most popular domestic wood in furniture design in Korea. In this study, design is developed into various types of furniture such as a table, a chest, and a lighting, by researching manufacturing process and examining the use of slicing pine tree. The technique of slicing pine tree is a simple linear arrangement that was traditionally used in wooden furniture in Lee dynasty, with an emphasis on repetitive rhythm. The slicing technology is used to expand the usage of domestic pine tree. The beauty of natural wood is expressed with the transmission of light by applying this technique to the lighting design. It also brings new communication in between artificial lighting and natural wood combining this traditional technique and LED lighting in design. Finally, this study suggests particular value through the convergence of analog and digital by using the traditional wooden technique that keeps natural wood prints and new digital technology by using LED lighting. More discussions and research about this subject are expected continuously through this study.
