  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the phenomenological approaches in Holl's architecture centered on his Nelson-Atkins Art Museum. This study mainly deals with concrete and practical architectural contents based on his recent works rather than existing studies about philosophical point of views to his architecture. Because Holl has had turning point from theoretical research to practical application and development stage. Therefore, this study aims to find out Holl's phenomenological approaches that were different from his early works. Nelson-Atkins art museum shows effect of luminosity as well as inflow of light in the phenomenological experiences of light and space. Holl gave new addition building that he designed contrasts of massing, transparency of material, colors to enhance existence of new building through phenomenological experiences. Narrow and long circulation and various focal points provide multi-view points and overlapped spaces in body experiences As a result, Holl shows shifts from theoretical application to architectural utilization. Nelson-Atkins art museum is important in that this project is one of stating points about this shift.

  • Two new generation gap models with modified parent-centric recombination(PCX) operator are proposed. First, the self-adaptation generation gap(SGG) model is a control method that keeps a replaced probability of parents by offspring to a certain level which obtains better performance. Second, virtual cluster generation gap(VCGG) is provided to extend distances among parents using clustering, which causes it to diversify individuals. In this model, distances among parents can be controlled by size of clusters. To demonstrate the effectiveness of our two proposed approaches, experiments for three standard test problems are executed and compared to most competing current approaches, CMA-ES and Generalized Generation Gap(G3) with PCX. It is shown two proposed methods are superior to consistently other approaches in the study.

  • Recently, a new type of LNG membrane Tank called the "KC-1 membrane LNG Tank" was developed by KOGAS (Korean Gas Corporation). It is necessary to estimate the temperature distribution of the hull structure and insulation system for this new LNG tank, as well as the BOR (Boil-Off Rate) when exposed to outside temperature conditions to ensure the integrity of the tank structure and limit LNG evaporation, from a safety evaluation point of view. In this study, temperature distribution calculations for the hull structure and insulation system of the KC1 membrane tank were compared by employing four numerical approaches under the IGC condition. Approaches 1-3 studied 2D simulations and approach 4 used a 3D numerical simulation. Approach 1 was calculated by in-house Excel VBA codes and the three other approaches utilized ANSYS Fluent. The BOR of approach 4, the 3D simulation case, for the IGC condition was 0.0986%/day.

  • Gallstones constitute one of the more common and relatively costly conditions of the gastrointestinal system and are a major risk factor for gallbladder cancer. Most gallstone cases involve individuals younger than 60 years of age, those older representing 9% of the total in one series. There are many risk factors for gallstones and Lith and Mucin genes, for example, play important roles in their formation. Surgery is one therapeutic approach but in the future it is to be expected that drugs for prevention of gallstones will be developed in the future. This will have clear implications for gallbladder cancer control.

  • This paper gives on overview of register windowing structure and presents advantages and limitations. Based on these advantages and disadvantages, an original approach for the design of large register file is presented, analyzed and compared with existing approaches. The advantages and disadvantages of this new approach to register file design are discussed, and conditions under which it works better than the existing approaches are outlined. Design tradeoffs are examined in an analytic and empirical study, and the results of which are summarized in the conclusion of this paper.

  • With the development of RAIM techniques for single failure. there has been increasing interest in the multiple failure problem. There have been many approaches to tackle the problem from various points of view. This paper approaches to two failure problem with total least squares (TLS) technique, which has rarely been addressed because TLS requires a great number of computations.

  • The traditional approaches to determine the flag of convenience and second register of flagging-out in Korea international ship register and investigater and weakness of those approaches are revealed. A realistic approach to determine the paper company of shipping and sub-standard vessel of shipbuilding is suggested by introducing register factors obtained from Norwegian and Denish international ship register experiment for the new register.

  • Strengthening of R & D components of sericulture in India since the sixties has led to a quantum jump in silk production and presently India is the second largest producer in the world. This achievement is primarily due to a number of breakthroughs in R & D to match the requirements of tropics, by way of introduction of improved mulberry varieties and silkworm breeds, better mulberry cultivation and rearing management practices suited to tropical conditions. Of late, new approaches in molecular biology and biotechnology have also been vigorously pursued to strengthen the current conventional strategies. The present paper attempts to provide an overview of the present status of silk production in both mulberry and non-mulberry sectors, breakthroughs achieved through new approaches of biotechnology and the future prospects for maximizing silk productivity in India.

  • In [8, 9] they introduced a new finite element method for accurate numerical solutions of Poisson equations with corner singularities. They consider the Poisson equations with corner singularities, compute the finite element solutions using standard Finite Element Methods and use the extraction formula to compute the stress intensity factor(s), then they posed new PDE with a regular solution by imposing the nonhomogeneous boundary condition using the computed stress intensity factor(s), which converges with optimal speed. From the solution they could get an accurate solution just by adding the singular part. The error analysis was given in [5]. In their approaches, the singular functions and the extraction formula which give the stress intensity factor are the basic elements. In this paper we consider the biharmonic problems with the cramped and/or simply supported boundary conditions and get the singular functions and its duals and find properties of them, which are the cornerstones of the approaches of [8, 9, 10].

  • In this thesis, We tried to introduce definite integration to the curriculum of high school mathematics with numerical integration, which had been introduced with quadrature method. For this purpose, We used new experimental mathematics approaches, so-called investigation and examination. In chapter II, We examined how much computers had been used in teaching mathematics. In chapter III, We presented the theoretical background of approximation integration within numerical integration. In chapter IV, We studied and compared various methods of numerical integration, and examined the relation between curvature of a curved line and numerical integration. In order to study more easily, We used some of computer programs. We hope that this thesis will be a turning point in developing new teaching methods and improving curriculum of mathematics in high school.
