  • Tunicates were collected from three harbors (Gampo, Bangeojin, Daebyeon) in Gyeongsangnam-do and one harbor (Seogwipo) in Jejudo Island during the period from August 2008 to January 2011 and were identified on the basis of their morphological characteristics. Among them, colonial tunicate Clavelina lepadiformis (Muller, 1776) belonging to the family Clavelinidae was found to be an invasive alien species introduced from the North Atlantic, and this is the first record of its occurrence in Korea.

  • Desmotimmia mirabilis (Timm), a rarely known desmoscolecid nematode species, was discovered for the first time from the Yellow Sea off southwestern coast of Korea. This is the third record of the species, and the first report from the northwestern Pacific region. Redescription is prepared on the basis of a male specimen from South Korea.

  • Three isolates of Penicillium pimiteouiense were recovered from sandy beach soil samples in Penang Island, Peninsular Malaysia. All the isolates were identified based on morphological characteristics and phylogenetic analysis of internal transcribed spacer regions and ${\beta}$-tubulin gene. This is a first record of P. pimiteouiense in Malaysia.

  • Myelochroa (Asahina) Elix & Hale is a common foliose lichen genus found on the Korean Peninsula. Since it was first recorded nearly two decades ago, no detailed taxonomic or revisionary study of the genus has been conducted. Thus, the current study was conducted to carry out a detailed taxonomic and revisionary study of Myelochroa in South Korea. This study was based on specimens deposited in the Korean Lichen Research Institute (KoLRI). Detailed taxonomic studies and a literature review confirmed the presence of twelve species of Myelochroa from S. Korea, including one new record, Myelochroa xantholepis (Mont. & Bosch) Elix & Hale. Descriptions of each species with their morphological, anatomical and chemical characters together with a key to all known Myelochroa species are presented.

  • The fish species Uraspis helvola and U. uraspis (family Carangidae, Perciformes) were collected from Korea, and described and compared based on morphological and molecular characters. Uraspis helvola and U. uraspis were clearly distinguished by differences in the beginning point of the straight lateral lines scales (dorsal fin soft rays 12th~13th in U. helvola vs. 15th~16th in U. uraspis), and in the naked area on the breast extends to the pectoral fin base (naked area half way in U. helvola vs. naked area widely connected in U. uraspis). Molecular analysis using 530 base-pairs of mitochondrial DNA cytochrome c oxidase subunit I gene strongly supported the morphological identification. We described it as the new Korean record, and proposed the new Korean name "min-jeon-gaeng-i-sok" for the genus Uraspis, and "heuk-gi-min-jeon-gaeng-i" for the species U. uraspis.

  • Usnea Adans. is a somewhat rare lichen in South Korea, and, in nearly two decades, no detailed taxonomic or revisionary study has been conducted. This study was based on the specimens deposited in the lichen herbarium at the Korean Lichen Research Institute, and the samples were identified using information obtained from recent literature. In this study, a total of eight species of Usnea, including one new record, Usnea hakonensis Asahina, are documented. Detailed descriptions of each species with their morphological, anatomical, and chemical characteristics are provided. A key to all known Usnea species in South Korea is also presented.

  • This study was for suggesting the test methods in the revision process of the cataloging rules to understand the problem of draft cataloging rules and to apply the new cataloging rules correctly in libraries instead of collecting the opinions by the traditional seminar and conference in the process of revising KCR, KCR2, KCR3, KCR4. For this study, the literature review and the case study were used as the research methods. The case study was based on the US RDA Test by US RDA Test Coordinating Committee. The evaluation areas of the test were cataloging rules, record creation and system development by reflecting the new cataloging rules, user, and cost. The data for the analysis was the creation of bibliographic records and authority records by librarians, and the question investigations that were the use of institutions, librarians, and users. This study would contribute to revise the cataloging rules in future by analyzing the errors of applying new rules to bibliographic record and by investigating the difficulties of applying rules in completing the bibliographic record. Also, the libraries could be easy to decide to implement the new rules from the creation time of bibliographic record by new rules and the learning curve of new rules.
