  • In this paper, we proposed the cell multiplexer using Hopfield neural network and the bandwidth predictor using the backpropagation neural network in order to make an accurate call setup decision. The cell multiplexer controls heterogeneous traffic and the bandwidth predictor estimates minimum bandwidth which satisfies traffic's QoS and maximizes throughput in network. Also, a novel connection admission controller decides on connection setup using the predicted bandwidth from bandwidth predictor and available bandwidth in networks. And then, we proposed a fuzzy traffic policer, when traffic sources violate the contract, takes an appropriate action and aim proved traffic shaper, which controls burstness which is one of key characteristics in multimedia traffic. We simulated the proposed controller. Simulation results show that the proposed controller outperforms existing controller.

  • Wind energy conversion systems (WECS) which consist of wind turbines with permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG) and full-power converters have become widespread in the field of renewable power systems. Generally, conventional diode bridge rectifiers have used to obtain a constant DC bus voltage from output of PMSG based wind generator. In recent years, together advanced power electronics technology, Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) rectifiers have used in WECS. PWM rectifiers are used in many applications thanks to their characteristics such as high power factor and low harmonic distortion. In general, L, LC and LCL-type filter configurations are used in these rectifiers. These filter configurations are not exactly compensate current and voltage harmonics. This study proposes a hybrid passive filter configuration for PWM rectifiers instead of existing filters. The performance of hybrid passive filter was tested via MATLAB/Simulink environment under various operational conditions and was compared with LCL filter structure. In addition, neuro-fuzzy controller (NFC) was preferred to increase the performance of PWM rectifier in DC bus voltage control against disturbances because of its robust and nonlinear structure. The study demonstrates that the hybrid passive filter configuration proposed in this study successfully compensates current and voltage harmonics, and improves total harmonic distortion and true power factor.

  • This study aims to identify the effect of neurofeedback training by observing the pre and post brainwave measurement results of about 60(experimental group 30, control group 30) subjects who have shown self directed learning ability. The study took place at neuro-training center B, in between the months of Jan. 2010 and Jul. 2010. As the brainwaves are adjusted by timeseries linear analysis. The result confirmed the differences of both self regulation quotient, training protocol, and questionnaire. The result of the study suggest neurofeedback technique's possibility in positively affecting the subjects' self directed learning ability.

  • In the study of control technique for a turbojet engine model, the Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy logic controller has been designed based on the model identification by the well designed PI controlled system through T-S neuro-fuzzy inference system. To enhance this designed controller, those procedures are proposed that certainty factors are adopted to each rule of objective groups which are classified by the fuzzy C-Means algorithm and the satisfaction degrees are matched to meet the objectives. This proposed technique shows its feasibility by upgrading performances of the previously well-designed T-S fuzzy controller.

  • Lithium remains the most widely used therapeutic agent for bipolar affective disorder, particularly mania. Although many investigators have studied the effects of lithium on abnormalities in monoamine neuro-transmitter as a pathophysiological basis of affective disorder, the action mechanism of lithium ion remains still unknown. To explore the action mechanism of lithium in the brain, we examined the effects of lithium on the extrasynaptosomal concentrations of catecholamines and their metabolites. Synaptosomes were prepared from the rat forebrains and assays of catecholamines and metabolites were made using HPLC with an electrochemical detector. Lithium of 1mM decreased the extrasynaptosomal concentrations of NE from the control group of $3.07{\pm}1.19$ to the treated group of $0.00{\pm}0.00$ (ng/ml of synaptosomal suspension) but not that of DHPG. It can be suggested that lithium increases synaptosomal uptake of NE. Increased intraneuronal uptake of NE would decrease neurotransmission and extraneuronal metabolism of NE. Because increased brain NE metabolism and neurotransmission have been suggested as important components in the pathophysiology of bipolar affective disorder, especially mania, lithium-induced increase of intraneuronal NE uptake can be suspected as an action mechanism of therapeutic effect of lithium in manic patient, possibly in bipolar affective disorder.

  • In this paper, we design an Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System(ANFIS) Precompensator for the performance improvement of conventional proportional integral derivative (PID) controller that the governor system of power plant constantly maintains the load frequency of two-area power system. The ANFIS Precompensator is expressed as the membership functions of premise parameters and the linear combination of consequent parameters by Sugeno's fuzzy if-then rules using nonlinear input-output relation for the set point automatic modification maintaining conventional PID controller. The proposed compensation design technique is hoped to be satisfactory method overcome difficulty of exact modelling and arising problems by the complex nonlinearities of power system, and our design shows merit that is easily implemented by adding an ANFIS precompenastor to an existing PID controller without replacement.

  • This paper presents a direct multivariable self-tuning controller using neural network which adapts to the changing parameters of the higher order multivariable nonlinear system with nonminimum phase behavior, mutual interactions and time delays. The nonlinearities are assumed to be globally bounded, and a multivariable nonlinear system is divided linear part and nonlinear part. The neural network is used to estimate the controller parameters, and the control output is obtained through estimated controller parameter. In order to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm the computer simulation is done to adapt the multivariable nonlinear nonminimm phase system with time delays and changed system parameter after a constant time. The proposed method compared with direct multivariable adaptive controller using neural network.

  • We investigated the structure-activity relationships on use of multi-layer neural networks. The relationships are techniques required in developments of medicines. Since many kinds of observations might be adopted on the techniques, we discussed some points between the observations and the properties of multi-layer neural networks. In the structure-activity relationships, an important property is not that standard deviations are nearly equal to zero for observed physiological activity, but prediction ability for unknown medicines. Since we adopted non-linear approximation, the function to represent the activity can be defined by observations; therefore, we believe that the standard deviations have not significance. The function was examined by "leave-one-out" method, which was originally introduced for the multi-regression analysis. In the linear approximation, the examination is significance, however, we believe that the method is inappropriate in case of nonlinear fitting as neural networks; therefore, we derived a new index fer the relationships from the differential of information propagation in the neural network. By using the index, we discussed physiological activity of an anti-cancer medicine, Mitomycine derivatives. The neuro-computing suggests that there is no direction to extend the anti-cancer activity of Mitomycine, which is close to the trend of anticancer developing.

  • Eye movements serve vision by placing the image of an object on the fovea of each retina, and by preventing slippage of images on the retina. The brain employs two modes of ocular motor control, fast eye movements (saccades) and smooth eye movements. Saccades bring the fovea to a target, and smooth eye movements prevent retinal image slip. Smooth eye movements comprise smooth pursuit, the optokinetic reflex, the vestibulo-ocular reflex (VOR), vergence, and fixation. Saccades achieve rapid refixation of targets that fall on the extrafoveal retina by moving the eyes at peak velocities that can exceed $700^{\circ}/s$. Various brain lesions can affect saccadic latency, velocity, or accuracy. Smooth pursuit maintains fixation of a slowly moving target. The pursuit system responds to slippage of an image near the fovea in order to accelerate the eyes to a velocity that matches that of the target. When smooth eye movements velocity fails to match target velocity, catch-up saccades are used to compensate for limited smooth pursuit velocities. The VOR subserves vision by generating conjugate eye movements that are equal and opposite to head movements. If the VOR gain (the ratio of eye velocity to head velocity) is too high or too low, the target image is off the fovea, and head motion causes oscillopsia, an illusory to-and-fro movement of the environment.

  • This paper presents an optimization algorithm for a stable Dynamic Neural Network (DNN) using genetic algorithm. Optimized DNN is applied to a problem of controlling nonlinear dynamical systems. DNN is dynamic mapping and is better suited for dynamical systems than static forward neural network. The real time implementation is very important, and thus the neuro controller also needs to be designed such that it converges with a relatively small number of training cycles. SDNN has considerably fewer weights than DNN. The object of proposed algorithm is to the number of self dynamic neuron node and the gradient of activation functions are simultaneously optimized by genetic algorithms. To guarantee convergence, an analytic method based on the Lyapunov function is used to find a stable learning for the SDNN. The ability and effectiveness of identifying and controlling, a nonlinear dynamic system using the proposed optimized SDNN considering stability' is demonstrated by case studies.
