Non-destructive assessment of the three-point-bending strength of mortar beams using radial basis function neural networks

  • This paper presents a new method for assessing the three-point-bending (3PB) strength of mortar beams in a non-destructive manner, based on neural network (NN) models. The models are based on the radial basis function (RBF) architecture and the fuzzy means algorithm is employed for training, in order to boost the prediction accuracy. Data for training the models were collected based on a series of experiments, where the cement mortar beams were subjected to various bending mechanical loads and the resulting pressure stimulated currents (PSCs) were recorded. The input variables to the NN models were then calculated by describing the PSC relaxation process through a generalization of Boltzmannn-Gibbs statistical physics, known as non-extensive statistical physics (NESP). The NN predictions were evaluated using k-fold cross-validation and new data that were kept independent from training; it can be seen that the proposed method can successfully form the basis of a non-destructive tool for assessing the bending strength. A comparison with a different NN architecture confirms the superiority of the proposed approach.

  • In this paper, we study and compare two types of methods for classification when both continuous and categorical variables are used to describe each individual. One is neural network(NN) method using backpropagation learning(BPL). The other is logistic model(LM) method. Both the NN and LM are based on projections of the data in directions determined from interconnection weights.

  • This study proposes an adaptive control algorithm for lateral motion of a UGV (Unmanned Ground Vehicle) using an NN (Neural Networks). The lateral motion of the UGV can be corrupted with various uncertainties such as side slip. In order to compensate the performance degradation of the UGV under various uncertainties, an NN-based adaptive control is designed by utilizing a virtual control concept. Since both the drift and input gain terms are uncertain, the proposed method adapts the whole terms related to the difference between the nominal and real systems. To avoid a singularity problem with the adaptive control, the affine property of the UGV dynamic model is utilized and the overall closed-loop stability is analyzed rigorously. Finally, numerical simulations using Carsim are performed to validate the effectiveness of the proposed scheme.

  • This paper is concerned with the design methodology of face recognition system based on pose estimation. In 2-dimensional face recognition, the variations of facial pose cause the deterioration of recognition performance because object recognition is carried out by using brightness of each pixel on image. To alleviate such problem, the proposed face recognition system deals with Learning Vector Quantizatioin(LVQ) or K-Nearest Neighbor(K-NN) to estimate facial pose on image and then the images obtained from LVQ or K-NN are used as the inputs of networks such as Convolution Neural Networks(CNNs) and Radial Basis Function Neural Networks(RBFNNs). The effectiveness and efficiency of the post estimation using LVQ and K-NN as well as face recognition rate using CNNs and RBFNNs are discussed through experiments carried out by using ICPR and CMU PIE databases.

  • 불확실한 비선형 다중입출력 시스템에 대해서 신경회로망을 이용한 적응출력피드백제어기법이 제안되었다. 역변환 기반의 제어입력으로부터 불확실한 비선형성을 분리하기 위해 변형된 운동 역변환 모델(Modified Dynamic Inversion Model, MDIM)이 도입되었다. MDIM은 근사된 운동 역변환 모델과 역변환 모델 오차로 구성되었고 한 개의 신경회로망이 MDIM을 보상하는데 적용되었다. 여기서 신경회로망의 출력은 필터링된 근사오차 기반의 제어기를 증대시킨다. 추적성능과 종국적 유계성(ultimate boundedness)을 보장하기 위해 리야프노프의 직접방법(Lyapunov's direct method)으로부터 유도된 온라인 가중치 적응법칙이 이용되었다. 수치적 시뮬레이션을 통해 본 논문의 타당성을 검증하였다.

  • 본 논문에서는 광범위한 함수 근사성질을 갖고 있는 신경회로망을 이용하여, 시스템의 입출력 조화성분의 선형관계를 표현하기 위해 추정된 전달행렬의 적용범위를 확장할 수 있는 적응 고차조화제어(Higher Harmonic Control, HHC) 기법을 제안하고 있다. 신경회로망의 학습신호는 추정된 전달행렬을 기반으로 계산된 최적제어 이득 값 행렬을 이용하여 구성된다. 내부 안정성을 보장하기 위하여 신경회로망의 가중치 학습방법은 Lyapunov 직접 방법을 이용하여 유도하였다. 6개의 입력과 2개의 출력을 갖는 비선형 시스템에 대한 시뮬레이션 결과를 통해 적응 고차조화제어 기법이 불확실한 전달행렬에 적용 가능함을 보였다.

신경망을 이용한 시계열의 분해분석 (Decomposition Analysis of Time Series Using Neural Networks)

  • This evapaper is toluate the forecasting performance of three neural network(NN) approaches against ARIMA model using the famous time series analysis competition data. The first NN approach is to analyze the second Makridakis (M2) Competition Data using Multilayer Perceptron (MLP) that has been the most popular NN model in time series analysis. Since it is recently known that MLP suffers from bias/variance dilemma, two approaches are suggested in this study. The second approach adopts Cascade Correlation Network (CCN) that was suggested by Fahlman & Lebiere as an alternative to MLP. In the third approach, a time series is separated into two series using Noise Filtering Network (NFN) that utilizes autoassociative memory function of neural network. The forecasts in the decomposition analysis are the sum of two prediction values obtained from modeling each decomposed series, respectively. Among the three NN approaches, Decomposition Analysis shows the best forecasting performance on the M2 Competition Data, and is expected to be a promising tool in analyzing socio-economic time series data because it reduces the effect of noise or outliers that is an impediment to modeling the time series generating process.

다목적 비디오 부/복호화를 위한 다층 퍼셉트론 기반 삼항 트리 분할 결정 방법 (Multi-Layer Perceptron Based Ternary Tree Partitioning Decision Method for Versatile Video Coding)

  • Versatile Video Coding (VVC) is the latest video coding standard, which had been developed by the Joint Video Experts Team (JVET) of ITU-T Video Coding Experts Group (VCEG) and ISO/IEC Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG) in 2020. Although VVC can provide powerful coding performance, it requires tremendous computational complexity to determine the optimal block structures during the encoding process. In this paper, we propose a fast ternary tree decision method using two neural networks with 7 nodes as input vector based on the multi-layer perceptron structure, names STH-NN and STV-NN. As a training result of neural network, the STH-NN and STV-NN achieved accuracies of 85% and 91%, respectively. Experimental results show that the proposed method reduces the encoding complexity up to 25% with unnoticeable coding loss compared to the VVC test model (VTM).

  • This paper proposes a synergism of neural networks (NN) and knowledge-based decision support system (KBDSS) to effectively design an intelligent strategic planning system. Since conventional KBDSS becomes inoperative partially or totally when problem deviates slightly from the expected problem-domain, a new DSS concept is needed for designing an effective strategic planning system, where strategic planning environment is usually turbulent and consistently changing. In line with this idea, this paper developes a NN-based DSS, named ConDSS, incorporating the generalization property of NN into its knowledge base. The proposed ConDSS was extensively operated in an experimentally designed environment with three models: BCG matrix, Growth/Gain matrix, and GE matrix. The results proved very promising when encountered with unforeseen situations in comparisons with conventional KBDSS.

다층/ART2 신경회로망을 이용한 고장진단 (A Fault Diagnosis Based on Multilayer/ART2 Neural Networks)

  • 본 논문에서는 비선형시스템에서 발생한 고장을 감지하고 분류하기 위한 신경회로망기반 고장진단 방법을 제안한다. 제안한 알고리듬에서는 시스템의 출력과 다층신경회로망 공칭모델 출력 사이의 오차가 미리 설정한 문턱값을 넘으면 고장을 감지한다. 고장이 감지되면 다층신경회로망과 ART2 신경회로망을 이용한 고장분류기에서 시스템에서 발생한 고장을 분류한다. 컴퓨터 시뮬레이션 결과로부터 제안한 고장진단방법이 비선형시스템에서의 고장감지 및 분류문제에 잘 적용됨을 알 수 있다.
