A Computer-Aided Diagnosis system has been examined to reduce the effort of radiologist. In this paper, we propose the algorithm using Support Vector Machine(SVM) classifier to discriminate whether microcalcifications are malignant or benign tumors. The proposed method to detect microcalcifications is composed of two detection steps each of which uses SVM classifier. The coarse detection step finds out pixels considered high contrasts comparing with neighboring pixels. Then, Region of Interest(ROI) is generated based on microcalcification characteristics. The fine detection step determines whether the found ROIs are microcalcifications or not by merging potential regions using obtained ROIs and SVM classifier. The proposed method is specified on Korean mammogram database. The experimental result of the proposed algorithm presents robustness in detecting microcalcifications than the previous method using Artificial Neural Network as classifier even when using small training data.
Compressive strength is one of the most important engineering properties of concrete, and testing of the compressive strength of concrete specimens is often costly and time consuming. In order to provide the time for concrete form removal, re-shoring to slab, project scheduling and quality control, it is necessary to predict the concrete strength based upon the early strength data. However, concrete compressive strength is affected by many factors, such as quality of raw materials, water cement ratio, ratio of fine aggregate to coarse aggregate, age of concrete, compaction of concrete, temperature, relative humidity and curing of concrete. The concrete compressive strength is a quite nonlinear function that changes depend on the materials used in the concrete and the time. This paper presents an adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) for the prediction of concrete compressive strength. The training of fuzzy system was performed by a hybrid method of gradient descent method and least squares algorithm, and the subtractive clustering algorithm (SCA) was utilized for optimizing the number of fuzzy rules. Experimental data on concrete compressive strength in the literature were used to validate and evaluate the performance of the proposed ANFIS model. Further, predictions from three models (the back propagation neural network model, the statistics model, and the ANFIS model) were compared with the experimental data. The results show that the proposed ANFIS model is a feasible, efficient, and accurate tool for predicting the concrete compressive strength.

This article deals with the application of reliability analysis for determining the safety of simply supported beam under the uniformly distributed load. The uncertainties of the existing methods were taken into account and hence reliability analysis has been adopted. To accomplish this aim, Generalized Regression Neural Network (GRNN), Extreme Learning Machine (ELM) and Gaussian Process Regression (GPR) models are developed. Reliability analysis is the probabilistic style to determine the possibility of failure free operation of a structure. The application of probabilistic mathematics into the quantitative aspects of a structure and improve the qualitative aspects of a structure. In order to construct the GRNN, ELM and GPR models, the dataset contains Modulus of Elasticity (E), Load intensity (w) and performance function (${\delta}$) in which E and w are inputs and ${\delta}$ is the output. The achievement of the developed models was weighed by various statistical parameters; one among the most primitive parameter is Coefficient of Determination ($R^2$) which has 0.998 for training and 0.989 for testing. The GRNN outperforms the other ELM and GPR models. Other different statistical computations have been carried out, which speaks out the errors and prediction performance in order to justify the capability of the developed models.
A robot usually adopts ANN (artificial neural network)-based object detection and instance segmentation algorithms to recognize objects but creating datasets for these algorithms requires high labeling costs because the dataset should be manually labeled. In order to lower the labeling cost, a new scheme is proposed that can automatically generate a training images and label them for specific objects. This scheme uses an instance segmentation algorithm trained to give the masks of unknown objects, so that they can be obtained in a simple environment. The RGB images of objects can be obtained by using these masks, and it is necessary to label the classes of objects through a human supervision. After obtaining object images, they are synthesized with various background images to create new images. Labeling the synthesized images is performed automatically using the masks and previously input object classes. In addition, human intervention is further reduced by using the robot arm to collect object images. The experiments show that the performance of instance segmentation trained through the proposed method is equivalent to that of the real dataset and that the time required to generate the dataset can be significantly reduced.
This paper proposed a method of validation data augmentation for improving the grading accuracy of diabetic macular edema (DME) using deep learning. The data augmentation technique is basically applied in order to secure diversity of data by transforming one image to several images through random translation, rotation, scaling and reflection in preparation of input data of the deep neural network (DNN). In this paper, we apply this technique in the validation process of the trained DNN, and improve the grading accuracy by combining the classification results of the augmented images. To verify the effectiveness, 1,200 retinal images of Messidor dataset was divided into training and validation data at the ratio 7:3. By applying random augmentation to 359 validation data, $1.61{\pm}0.55%$ accuracy improvement was achieved in the case of six times augmentation (N=6). This simple method has shown that the accuracy can be improved in the N range from 2 to 6 with the correlation coefficient of 0.5667. Therefore, it is expected to help improve the diagnostic accuracy of DME with the grading information provided by the proposed DNN.
Electroencephalogram (EEG) recording provides a new way to support human-machine communication. It gives us an opportunity to analyze the neuro-dynamics of human cognition. Machine learning is a powerful for the EEG classification. In addition, machine learning can compensate for high variability of EEG when analyzing data in real time. However, the optimal EEG electrode location must be prioritized in order to extract the most relevant features from brain wave data. In this paper, we propose an intelligent system model for the extraction of EEG data by training the optimal electrode location of EEG in a specific problem. The proposed system is basically a fuzzy system and uses a neural network structurally. The fuzzy clustering method is used to determine the optimal number of fuzzy rules using the features extracted from the EEG data. The parameters and weight values found in the process of determining the number of rules determined here must be tuned for optimization in the learning process. Genetic algorithms are used to obtain optimized parameters. We present useful results by using optimal rule numbers and non - symmetric membership function using EEG data for four movements with the right arm through various experiments.
In this study, we developed a $PM_{10}$ forecasting model using DNN and Membership Function, and improved the forecasting performance. The model predicts the $PM_{10}$ concentrations of the next 3 days in the Seoul area by using the weather and air quality observation data and forecast data. The best model(RM14)'s accuracy (82%, 76%, 69%) and false alarm rate(FAR:14%,33%,44%) are good. Probability of detection (POD: 79%, 50%, 53%), however, are not good performance. These are due to the lack of training data for high concentration $PM_{10}$ compared to low concentration. In addition, the model dose not reflect seasonal factors closely related to the generation of high concentration $PM_{10}$. To improve this, we propose Julian date membership function as inputs of the $PM_{10}$ forecasting model. The function express a given date in 12 factors to reflect seasonal characteristics closely related to high concentration $PM_{10}$. As a result, the accuracy (79%, 70%, 66%) and FAR (24%, 48%, 46%) are slightly reduced in performance, but the POD (79%, 75%, 71%) are up to 25% improved compared with those of the RM14 model. Hence, this shows that the proposed Julian forecast model is effective for high concentration $PM_{10}$ forecasts.
Many security systems rely solely on solutions based on Artificial Intelligence, which are weak in nature. These security solutions can be easily manipulated by malicious users who can gain unlawful access. Some security systems suggest using fingerprint-based solutions, but they can be easily deceived by copying fingerprints with clay. Image-based security is undoubtedly easy to manipulate, but it is also a solution that does not require any special training on the part of the user. In this paper, we propose a multi-factor security framework that operates in a three-step process to authenticate the user. The motivation of the research lies in utilizing commonly available and inexpensive devices such as onsite CCTV cameras and smartphone camera and providing fully secure user authentication. We have used technologies such as Argon2 for hashing image features and physically unclonable identification for secure device-server communication. We also discuss the methodological workflow of the proposed multi-factor authentication framework. In addition, we present the service scenario of the proposed model. Finally, we analyze qualitatively the proposed model and compare it with state-of-the-art methods to evaluate the usability of the model in real-world applications.
