  • Thousands of studies on predicting information and products that are suitable for customers' preference have been actively proceeding. In massive information, unnecessary information should be removed to satisfy customers' needs. This Information filtering has been proceeding with several methods such as content-based and collaborative filtering etc. These conventional filtering methods have scarcity and scalability problems. Thus, this paper proposes a recommendation system using BPN to solve them. Data obtained by survey questionnaire are used as training data of neural network. The recommendation system using neural network is expected to recommend suitable products because it creates optimal network. Finally, the prototype for recommendation system based on neural network is proposed to collect data and recommend appropriate methods through survey questionnaire. As a result, this research improved the problems of conventional information filtering.

  • A comparison of a neural network approach with the conventional statistical methods, multiple regression and band ratio analyses, for the estimation of water quality parameters in presented in this paper. The Landsat TM image of Lake Daechung acquired on March 18, 1996 and the thirty in-situ sampling data sets measured during the satellite overpass were used for the comparison. We employed a three-layered and feedforward network trained by backpropagation algorithm. A cross validation was applied because of the small number of training pairs available for this study. The neural network showed much more successful performance than the conventional statistical analyses, although the results of the conventional statistical analyses were significant. The superiority of a neural network to statistical methods in estimating water quality parameters is strictly because the neural network modeled non-linear behaviors of data sets much better.

  • In order to protect the environment from the refrigerant pollution, the $CO_2$ may be regarded as one of the most attractive alternative refrigerants for an automotive air-conditioning system. Control methods for a $CO_2$ system should be different because of $CO_2$'s unique properties as a refrigerant. Especially, the high-side pressure of a $CO_2$ system should be controlled for the effective operation of the system. In this study, the high-side pressure setpoint algorithm was developed by using a neural network and a Lagrange interpolation method. These methods were compared. Simulation results showed that a Lagrange interpolation method was more effective than a neural network in the respect of its easiness of programming and shorter execution time.

  • In the power system state estimation, the J(x)-index test and normalized residuals $r_N$ have been used to detect the presence of bad measurements and identify their location. But, these methods require the complete re-estimation of system states whenever bad data is identified. This paper presents back-propagation neural network model using autoregressive filter for identification of bad measurements. The performances of neural network method are compared with those of conventional methods and simulation results show the good performance in the bad data identification based on the neural network under sample power system.

  • Objectives:The purpose of this study is to 1) conduct a discrimination analysis of schizophrenia and bipolar affective disorder using MMPI profile through artificial neural network analysis and logistic regression analysis, 2) to make a comparison between advantages and disadvantages of the two methods, and 3) to demonstrate the usefulness of artificial neural network analysis of psychiatric data. Procedure:The MMPI profiles for 181 schizophrenia and bipolar affective disorder patients were selected. Of these profiles, 50 were randomly placed in the learning group and the remaining 131 were placed in the validation group. The artificial neural network was trained using the profiles of the learning group and the 131 profiles of the validation group were analyzed. A logistic regression analysis was then conducted in a similar manner. The results of the two analyses were compared and contrasted using sensitivity, specificity, ROC curves, and kappa index. Results:Logistic regression analysis and artificial neural network analysis both exhibited satisfactory discriminating ability at Kappa index of greater than 0.4. The comparison of the two methods revealed artificial neural network analysis is superior to logistic regression analysis in its discriminating capacity, displaying higher values of Kappa index, specificity, and AUC(Area Under the Curve) of ROC curve than those of logistic regression analysis. Conclusion:Artificial neural network analysis is a new tool whose frequency of use has been increasing for its superiority in nonlinear applications. However, it does possess insufficiencies such as difficulties in understanding the relationship between dependent and independent variables. Nevertheless, when used in conjunction with other analysis tools which supplement it, such as the logistic regression analysis, it may serve as a powerful tool for psychiatric data analysis.

  • This paper presents a method based on neural networks to detect the broken rotor bars and end rings of squirrel cage induction motors. At first, detection methods are studied, and then traditional methods of fault detection and dynamic models of induction motors by using winding function model are introduced. In this method, all of the stator slots and rotor bars are considered, thus the performance of the motor in healthy situations or breakage in each part can be checked. The frequency spectrum of current signals is derived by using Fourier transformation and is analyzed in different conditions. In continuation, an analytical discussion and a simple algorithm are presented to detect the fault. This algorithm is based on neural networks. The neural network has been trained by using information of a 1.1 KW induction motor. This system has been tested with a different amount of load torque, and it is capable of working on-line and of recognizing all normal and ill conditions.

  • Neural Networks are widely used for huge variety of tasks solution. Machine Learning methods are used also for signal and time series analysis, including electrocardiograms. Contemporary wearable devices, both medical and non-medical type like smart watch, allow to gather the data in real time uninterruptedly. This allows us to transfer these data for analysis or make an analysis on the device, and thus provide preliminary diagnosis, or at least fix some serious deviations. Different methods are being used for this kind of analysis, ranging from medical-oriented using distinctive features of the signal to machine learning and deep learning approaches. Here we will demonstrate a neural network-based approach to this task by building an ensemble of 1D CNN classifiers and a final classifier of selection using logistic regression, random forest or support vector machine, and make the conclusions of the comparison with other approaches.

  • As an important key technology using on electronic devices, face recognition has become one of the hottest technology recently. The traditional BP Neural network has a strong ability of self-learning, adaptive and powerful non-linear mapping but it also has disadvantages such as slow convergence speed, easy to be traversed in the training process and easy to fall into local minimum points. So we come up with an algorithm based on BP neural network but also combined with the PCA algorithm and other methods such as the elastic gradient descent method which can improve the original network to try to improve the whole recognition efficiency and has the advantages of both PCA algorithm and BP neural network.

  • In this paper auto-tuning scheme of weight function in the neural networks has been suggested by immune algorithm for nonlinear process. A number of structures of the neural networks are considered as learning methods for control system. A general view is provided that they are the special cases of either the membership functions or the modification of network structure in the neural networks. On the other hand, since the immune network system possesses a self organizing and distributed memory, it is thus adaptive to its external environment and allows a PDP (parallel distributed processing) network to complete patterns against the environmental situation. Also. It can provi..
