  • In this paper, we design the radio data link protocols with QoS provisioning for mobile multimedia such as voice, data, and video in CDMA-based ATM networks, and analyze the performance of the data link protocols. To support mobile multimedia traffic, the required QoS parameters and the characteristics are analyzed, and wireless protocol stacks are proposed for integrating the wireless access network and ATM transport networks, and radio data link protocols are designed for provisioning QoS Control. The data link protocols are analyzed assuming that the system is supporting voice and data traffic simultaneously. In case of data traffic, the delay and throughput of SREJ ARQ and Type-1 Hybrid ARQ scheme are compared, and in case of voice traffic, the packet loss rate of BCH coding is analyzed according to the varying data traffic loads. The results indicate that the adaptive radio link protocols are efficient to support QoS requirements while the complexities are increased.

  • Due to the convergence of voice, data, and video, today's telecom operators are facing the complexity of service and network management to offer differentiated value-added services that meet customer expectations. Without the operations support of well-developed Business Support System/Operations Support System (BSS/OSS), it is difficult to timely and effectively provide competitive services upon customer request. In this paper, a suite of NGOSS-based Telecom OSS (TOSS) is developed for the support of fulfillment and assurance operations of telecom services and IT services. Four OSS groups, TOSS-P (intelligent service provisioning), TOSS-N (integrated large-scale network management), TOSS-T (trouble handling and resolution), and TOSS-Q (end-to-end service quality management), are organized and integrated following the standard telecom operation processes (i.e., eTOM). We use IPTV and IP-VPN operation scenarios to show how these OSS groups co-work to support daily business operations with the benefits of cost reduction and revenue acceleration.

  • Smart TV System will lead to drastic change of communication and media industries as one of the emerging next generation network services. However, when the number of concurrent users increases rapidly, the issue of service quality degradation occurs because providing services to many users simultaneously stresses both the server and the network. The server limitation can be circumvented by deploying server clusters. but the network limitation is far less easy to cope with, due to the difficulty in determining the cause and location of congestion and in provisioning extra resources. In order to alleviate these problems, a number of schemes have been developed. Prior works mostly focus on reducing user-centric performance metrics of individual connection, such as the round-trip time(RTT), downloading time or packet loss rate, but tend to ignore the network loads caused by the concurrent connections or global network load balance. In this work, we make an in-depth investigation on the issue of user grouping for massive Smart TV services through simulations on actual Internet test-bed, PlanetLab.

  • BcN(Broadband convergence Network) is being developed in order to support a variety of network applications, with enhanced capabilities of QoS(Quality of Service) provisioning and security, and IPv6. In a high-speed network environment such as BcN, it if more likely for the network resources to be exposed to various intrusion activities. The propagation speed of intrusion is alto expected to be much faster than in the existing Internet In this paper, we present a multi-domain security management framework which my be used for a global intrusion detection at multiple domains of BcN and describe its characteristics. For the performance evaluation, we first present test results for the security node and compare with other products. Then we design and Implement an OPNET simulator for the proposed framework, and present some simulation results. In the simulation model, we focus on the performance of alert information in the security overlay network.

  • To support diverse transmission requirements of multimedia applications, Quality of Service (QoS) should be provided in the Internet, where only the best-effort service is available. In this paper, we describe our recent effort on the implementation and verification of an extendable and flexible QoS allocation and resource management system based on the bandwidth broker model for realizing the IETF differentiated service (DiffServ). Focusing on the bandwidth issue over single administrative domain, the implemented system provides real-time resource reservation and allocation, delayed call admission control, simple QoS negotiation between sewer and users, and simple resource monitoring. The implemented system is verified by evaluating the performance of a resource-intensive application over the real-world testbed network.

  • In this paper, we present the integrated network architecture for supporting mobile IP in third generation mobile communication networks, and propose the end-to-end QoS control mechanisms of DiffServ and QoS control functions of each network element in the proposed network. First, the QoS supporting schemes of IMT-2000 are described. Second, the necessities of integrating the networks are discussed and the integrated architecture are proposed. Third, the mapping between wireless channels and DiffServ classes are presented. Finally, the end-to-end QoS control mechanisms are proposed. We also analyze the link level protocols with QoS provisioning for mobile multimedia assuming that the system support voice and data traffic simultaneously. In case of data traffic, the delay and throughput of SREJ ARQ and Type-1 Hybrid ARQ scheme are compared, and In case of voice traffic, the packet loss rate of BCH coding is analyzed according to the varying data traffic loads. The results indicate that the adaptive link level protocols are efficient to meet the QoS requirements while the complexities are increased.

  • This paper proposes a QoS/QoE guaranteeing scheme by reassembling packets that have already been delivered to the end systems under the condition that there is no other way to fulfill user's QoS/QoE with the current network conditions. The proposed scheme is a QoS/QoE provisioning scheme that can be applied when IPTV streaming packets have not been consecutively received by the receiver. The receiving end system modifies the continuous counter field in the MPEG-2 Transport Stream and reassembles packets based on this information. In the simulation, broadcasting streaming environment has been implemented in order to verity the QoS/QoE performance of the proposed scheme under the good and poor network conditions.

  • The explosive growth of wireless network users and the existence of various wireless services have demanded high rate throughput as well as user's QoS guarantees. Towards this, this paper proposes QoS-oriented subcarrier allocation scheme considering the QoS provisioning of multiple users, which is major requirement for wireless network design point of view. This paper introduces joint RR/K&H combined with M-LWDF(Modified Largest Weighted Delay First) scheme throughout observing statistical channel behavior and real time queuing analysis for appropriate resource allocation tightly connected to multiuser scheduling. Accordingly, the system throughput can be enhanced, and the QoS demanded for delay sensitive services can be satisfied. Furthermore, the proposed scheme is applied for OFDMA(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access) systems to allocate sub-carriers in optimal way. The simulation results verify plausible performances of proposed resource allocation scheme via showing superior effective capacity under time-varying physical-layer channel behaviors.

  • This paper identifies challenging factors that hinder the successful settlement of the MyData industry, which is drawing global attention, and it analyzes the priority of solutions. To this end, a mixed-methodology including analytic network process technique was borrowed step-by-step to identify variables, analyze them, and provide interpretations. From the first step, the study found that the market aspect was the most important for the success of the K-MyData business, and the release of interesting representative services was found to be the easiest way to inspire market growth. From the second step, as a socio-cultural issue, the lack of consensus on data provisioning was found to present a major obstacle. To achieve consensus, it is very important for business participants to gain the trust of consumers. From the third step, it was found that the scope of data collection and responsibility for accidents needs to be clarified. Government and business-related persons must observe the principles of MyData while tackling these obstacles. It is also necessary for the government to be sensitive to changes in the environment as a focal actor. Doing so will lead to data industry activation and will help guarantee of rights of data subjects in a balanced manner. Finally, it is notable that technical barriers now have the lowest priority. Although technology is important, MyData business must also overcome market, socio-cultural, and institutional challenges. The study selected Korea as its research target, but it is expected to provide useful insights to other countries that are planning MyData business similar to Korea.
