We study the antecedents to tie formation on an (Facebook-like) enterprise social media platform implemented to support cross-boundary connections. Research has produced mixed findings regarding the role of social media in cultivating bridging vs. closed networks. We examine the tie formation patterns of 1,386 enterprise social media users over a two-year period. Specifically, we observe who became (or chose not s become) "friends" with whom at the dyadic level and relate the decisions to various mechanisms that affect one's network to expand, constrain, or bridge. Using logistic and OLS regressions, we find that users tend to form ties via reciprocity and transitivity (with friends of friends), both of which help expand one's network. We also find strong networking tendency toward functional and hierarchical homophily (same business unit and same rank, respectively), which is likely to constrain one's network (closed network structure). We find that one's participation in various online interest groups is likely to open one's network (bridging network structure) while no evidence found for preferential attachment. Overall, we find that enterprise social media offers features, some of which are likely to foster bridging while others foster closed networks via different mechanisms.

Software Defined Network (SDN) realizes management and control over the underlying forwarding device, along with acquisition and analysis of network topology and flow characters through south bridge protocol. Data path Identification (DPID) is the unique identity for managing the underlying device, so forged DPID can be used to attack the link of underlying forwarding devices, as well as carry out DoS over the upper-level controller. This paper proposes a dynamic defense method based on Client-Puzzle model, in which the controller achieves dynamic management over requests from forwarding devices through generating questions with multi-level difficulty. This method can rapidly reduce network load, and at the same time separate attack flow from legal flow, enabling the controller to provide continuous service for legal visit. We conduct experiments on open-source SDN controllers like Fluid and Ryu, the result of which verifies feasibility of this defense method. The experimental result also shows that when cost of controller and forwarding device increases by about 2%-5%, the cost of attacker's CPU increases by near 90%, which greatly raises the attack difficulty for attackers.
Multifunctional weirs constructed through the Four Major Rivers Restoration Project are operated as management water levels. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of water level in the main stem on the tributary water level according to multifunctional weir operation, because the operation of multifunctional weirs for water level management influences the drainage of tributaries. In this study, water level pressure gauges were installed and spatial and temporal water quality was observed. The LOcally Weighted Scatterplot Smoothing (LOWESS) technique was applied to the Nakdong River and the Baekcheon Junction, both upstream of the Gangjeong-Goryeong weir, in order to analyze water quality trends. When considering the overall analysis and observations, it was found that the water quality forecasting point located at the Baekcheon estuary point should be transferred to the Dosung Bridge, which is located upstream of the Sunwon Bridge.
A bi-level damage detection algorithm that utilizes the dynamic responses of the structure as input and neural network (NN) as pattern classifier is presented. Signal anomaly index (SAI) is proposed to express the amount of changes in the shape of frequency response functions (FRF) or strain frequency response function (SFRF). SAI is calculated using the acceleration and dynamic strain responses acquired from intact and damaged states of the structure. In a bi-level damage identification algorithm, the presence of damage is first identified from the magnitude of the SAI value, then the location of the damage is identified using the pattern recognition capability of NN. The proposed algorithm is applied to an experimental model bridge to demonstrate the feasibility of the algorithm. Numerically simulated signals are used for training the NN, and experimentally-acquired signals are used to test the NN. The results of this example application suggest that the SAI-based pattern recognition approach may be applied to the structural health monitoring system for a real bridge.
Discharge or water level predictions at tidally affected river reaches are currently still a great challenge in hydrological practices. This research aims to predict water level of the tide dominated site, Jamsu bridge in the Han River downstream. Physics-based hydrodynamic approaches are sometimes not applicable for water level prediction in such a tidal river due to uncertainty sources like rainfall forecasting data. In this study, TensorFlow deep learning framework was used to build a deep neural network based LSTM model and its applications. The LSTM model was trained based on 3 data sets having 10-min temporal resolution: Paldang dam release, Jamsu bridge water level, predicted tidal level for 6 years (2011~2016) and then predict the water level time series given the six lead times: 1, 3, 6, 9, 12, 24 hours. The optimal hyper-parameters of LSTM model were set up as follows: 6 hidden layers number, 0.01 learning rate, 3000 iterations. In addition, we changed the key parameter of LSTM model, sequence length, ranging from 1 to 6 hours to test its affect to prediction results. The LSTM model with the 1 hr sequence length led to the best performing prediction results for the all cases. In particular, it resulted in very accurate prediction: RMSE (0.065 cm) and NSE (0.99) for the 1 hr lead time prediction case. However, as the lead time became longer, the RMSE increased from 0.08 m (1 hr lead time) to 0.28 m (24 hrs lead time) and the NSE decreased from 0.99 (1 hr lead time) to 0.74 (24 hrs lead time), respectively.

Recently, the paradigm of social infrastructure investment has been changed from new construction to maintenance and management. As a consequence, the management and maintenance system of existing highway facilities needed an innovation involving the concept of asset management. This paper discusses the new facility management system suitable to local highway agencies. The new system incorporates asset management concept so that it can analyze the network level facility management solution and it can also improve the budget efficiency for local government. This paper also presents systematic method to integrate various facilities for management system.
Identifying fine cracks in steel bridge facilities is a challenging task of structural health monitoring (SHM). This study proposed an end-to-end crack image segmentation framework based on a one-step Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) for pixel-level object recognition with high accuracy. To particularly address the challenges arising from small object detection in complex background, efforts were made in loss function selection aiming at sample imbalance and module modification in order to improve the generalization ability on complicated images. Specifically, loss functions were compared among alternatives including the Binary Cross Entropy (BCE), Focal, Tversky and Dice loss, with the last three specialized for biased sample distribution. Structural modifications with dilated convolution, Spatial Pyramid Pooling (SPP) and Feature Pyramid Network (FPN) were also performed to form a new backbone termed CrackDet. Models of various loss functions and feature extraction modules were trained on crack images and tested on full-scale images collected on steel box girders. The CNN model incorporated the classic U-Net as its backbone, and Dice loss as its loss function achieved the highest mean Intersection-over-Union (mIoU) of 0.7571 on full-scale pictures. In contrast, the best performance on cropped crack images was achieved by integrating CrackDet with Dice loss at a mIoU of 0.7670.
The Differential Power Processing (DPP) converter is a promising multi-module photovoltaic inverter architecture recently proposed for photovoltaic systems. In this paper, a DPP converter architecture, in which each PV-panel has its own DPP converter in shunt, performs distributed maximum power point tracking (DMPPT) control. It maintains a high energy conversion efficiency, even under partial shading conditions. The system architecture only deals with the power differences among the PV panels, which reduces the power capacity of the converters. Therefore, the DPP systems can easily overcome the conventional disadvantages of PCS such as centralized, string, and module integrated converter (MIC) topologies. Among the various types of the DPP systems, the feed-forward method has been selected for both its voltage balancing and power transfer to a modified H-bridge inverter that needs charge balancing of the input capacitors. The modified H-bridge multi-level inverter had some advantages such as a low part count and cost competitiveness when compared to conventional multi-level inverters. Therefore, it is frequently used in photovoltaic (PV) power conditioning system (PCS). However, its simplified switching network draws input current asymmetrically. Therefore, input capacitors in series suffer from a problem due to a charge imbalance. This paper validates the operating principle and feasibility of the proposed topology through the simulation and experimental results. They show that the input-capacitor voltages maintain the voltage balance with the PV MPPT control operating with a 140-W hardware prototype.

This study refers to development of WBS(Work Breakdown Structure) and Activity sample for integrated cost and schedule control system of sample bridge work in the field. The conclusions from this study may be summarized as following 1. It showed that the level of detail to network's activities depend upon schedule's intended purpose. 2. It is more effective 'activity to cost package model' than 'activity to resource model', for integrated cost and schedule control reflect the characteristics of domestic construction industry.
Wet porous media representing agronomic soil that contains variable water content with variable electrolyte concentration was measured to study the shape of the curves of the electric double layer capacitance versus frequency (from 10 KHz to 10 MHz. This was done in an attempt to find the lowest practical operating frequency for developing low cost dielectric constant soil moisture probes. Cellulose sponge was used as the porous media. A high frequency electronic bridge circuit was developed for measuring the equivalent network parallel resistance and capacitance of porous media. It appears that the effects of the electric double layer component of the total parallel network capacitance essentially disappear at operating frequencies greater than approximately 25 MHz at low electrolyte concentrations but are still important at 50 MHz at higher concentrations. At these frequencies, the double layer capacitance masks the diffusion region capacitance where true water content capacitance values reside. The general shape of the curve of volumetric water content versus porous media dielectric constant is presented, with an empirical equation representing data for this type of curve. It was concluded that the lowest frequency where dielectric constant values which represent true water content information will most likely be found is between 30 and 50 MHz at low electrolyte concentrations but may be above 50 MHz when the total electrolyte concentration is near the upper level required for most mesophyte plant nutrition.
