  • Clusters have become a popular alternative for building high-performance parallel computing systems. Today's high-performance system area network (SAN) protocols such as VIA and IBA significantly reduce user-to-user communication latency by implementing protocol stacks outside of operating system kernel. However, emerging parallel applications require a significant improvement in communication latency. Since the time required for transferring data between host memory and network interface (NI) make up a large portion of overall communication latency, the reduction of data transfer time is crucial for achieving low-latency communication. In this paper, Eager Data Transfer (EDT) mechanism is proposed to reduce the time for data transfers between the host and network interface. The EDT employs cache coherence interface hardware to directly transfer data between the host and NI. An EDT-based network interface was modeled and simulated on the Linux-based, complete system simulation environment, Linux/SimOS. Our simulation results show that the EDT approach significantly reduces the data transfer time compared to DMA-based approaches. The EDTbased NI attains 17% to 38% reduction in user-to-user message time compared to the cache-coherent DMA-based NIs for a range of message sizes (64 bytes${\sim}$4 Kbytes) in a SAN environment.

  • We propose the control channel access scheme for multi-interface multi-hop cognitive radio (CR) environment having a cluster structure. Due to the difficulty of obtaining common channels across the entire CR network, most multi-interface multi-hop CR networks put the control channel outside the CR bandwidth and dedicate one network interface to it in order to exchange the control information such as the activation of licensed users. However, this will be the waste of the network interface. Our focus is how to alternate between the control and the data channel without multichannel hidden node problem under the cluster structure where CR nodes connect with neighbors through multiple data channels. By using simulation, we evaluate the performance of the proposed scheme. The results show that the proposed scheme achieves higher network throughput than the dedicated scheme where one network interface card should dedicate to the control channel and cannot be used for data transmission.

  • Ethernet is one of the most successful LAN technologies. Now gigabit ethernet is available in real network and some network interface cards(NIC) supports TCP segment offloading (TSO), IP checksum offloading(ICO), Jumbo frame and interrupt moderation. If we use this features appropriately, we obtain high throughput with low CPU utilization. This paper represents the network performance by varying above features.

  • In this paper, we defined agent interface standard and messages for the control and management of agent. Agent interface is defined by messages exchanged between each component of the agent system environment, such as agent, agent system that creates and controls the agent, client that requests the service, agent master that mediates the service, agent manager that performs management functions of the agent. Agent interface is defined after the MAF of the OMG and the agent standard of the FIPA. Experiments are done for the application using agent interface and messages of this paper. The test network was the content distribution network using agent service, and we controled and managed the test network through the agent interface.

  • The integration of 3G networks and WLANs as complementary has been begun to attract much attention in industry as well as academia. This topic is becoming a burning issue, and one of the key questions which it raises is how to support a seamless vertical handoff. This paper introduces a new network interface selection algorithm for energy-efficient vertical handoff in tightly coupled systems capable of supporting seamless handoff. Our proposed scheme, Wise Interface Selection (WISE) switches the active network interface, after taking into consideration the characteristics of the network interface cards and the current level of data traffic, with the cooperation of the mobile terminals and network. Network interface switching operates independently on both the downlink and the uplink for the purpose of energy conservation. We show through simulation that less energy is consumed with WISE than when only a 3G network or WLAN interface is used, resulting in a longer lifetime for the mobile terminals. In the case of TCP connections, additional throughput gain can also be obtained.

  • In this paper, an integrated network management agent has been proposed and implemented to support different network management protocols, SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) for Internet and CMIP (Common Management Information Protocol) for OSI networks. We used MOVI (Managed Object View Interface) concept to integrate the different network management systems. We reviewed three models to design the integrated network management agent and then selected a suitable model among them. The logical structure of an agent, the implementation method and the operation of each module have been shown in this paper. The osimis and ucd-snmp network management system have been used as the reference systems for implementing our system. The integrated network management agent can support the internetworking between Internet and OSI networks in the aspect of network management. Using MOVI concept, if a new management system is introduced, internetworking with this can be achieved by adding the new interface on the view interface of managed object.

  • Realization of the economical, reliable, and efficient ATM interface block becomes an important key to development of the ATM switching system when we consider new issues raised recently. In this paper, we summarize requirements for the ATM interface block and present the UNI (User Network Interface)/NNI (Network Node Interface) architecture to meet these requirements. We also evaluate the performance of the multiplexer adopting the various multiplexing schemes and service disciplines. For ATM UNI/NNI interface technologies, we have developed a new policing device using the priority encoding scheme. It can reduce the decision time for policing significantly. We have also designed a new spacer that can space out the clumped cell stream almost perfectly. This algorithm guarantees more than 99 % conformance to the negotiated peak cell rate. Finally, we propose the interface architecture for accommodation of the ABR (Available Bit Rate) transfer capability. The proposed structure that performs virtual source and virtual destination functions as well as a switch algorithm can efficiently accommodate the ABR service.

  • A kind of field bus called Actuator and Sensor interface bus(AS-i) was designed in this paper. The configuration of AS-i network system used Application Specific Integrated Circuit(ASIC) SAP5S chip and PLC S7-200 station, which included CPU 224 and AS-i master module CP 243-2. We also created an example program for PLC S7-200 to control AS-i network. The fire and smoke detection system was made with AS-i network system that was designed. This system had got more advantages than other system such as number of stations, easy installation, wide working area, etc. And designed system can be used as a partner network for higher level field bus networks.
