  • This paper is to analyze patterns for Indonesian traditional textiles. Ikat is the resist-dyeing process in which designs are reserved in warp or weft yams by tying off small bundles of threads with fiber resists to prevent the penetration of dye. Batik is the technique applying a wax resist before dyeing to form a pattern in negative. Ikat and batik are the most renowned textile arts of Indonesia. Patterns are classified as geometric pattern, plant pattern, animal pattern. Also this paper discusses the origins of ikat and batik. Therefore this Paper proposes the classification and feature extraction of ikat and batik patterns. The results of this study can be effectively applied to develop competitive pattern design for Indonesian textile market.

  • A new method for the electrostatic suspension of disk-shaped objects is proposed which is based on a time-optimal control scheme and deploys only high-voltage power supplies that can deliver do voltages of positive and/or negative polarity. This method possesses the unique feature that no high-voltage amplifiers are needed which leads to a remarkable system simplification and objects can be suspended stably even in vacuum environment. Using this scheme, an Aluminium disk employed in a 3.5-inch HDD was suspended stably at an airgap of 0.3mm.

  • A simple and cost-effective method for the electrostatic suspension of thin plates like silicon wafers is proposed which is based on a switched voltage control scheme. It operates according to a relay feedback control and deploys only a single high-voltage power supply that can deliver a DC voltage of positive and/or negative polarity. This method possesses the unique feature that no high-voltage amplifiers are needed which leads to a remarkable system simplification relative to conventional methods. It is shown that despite the inherent limit cycle property of the relay feedback based control, an excellent performance in vibration suppression is attained due to the presence of a relatively large squeeze film damping origination from the air between the electrodes and levitated object. Using this scheme, a 4-inch silicon wafer was levitated stably with airgap variation decreasing down to $1 {\mu}m$ at an airgap of $100{\mu}m$.

  • Antimicrobial fibers were prepared by an electro-spinning method. Polystyrene hydantoin(PSH) was employed as an antimicrobial precursor to produce an electro-spun antimicrobial acrylic fiber. Increasing the surface area of hydrophobic antimicrobial-fibers provides enhanced antimicrobial efficacy. The biocidal activity of electro-spun acrylic fibers could be rendered through chlorine bleach treatment, and the antimicrobial effectiveness against gram-Positive and gram-negative bacteria was investigated. In addition, scanning electron microscopy(SEM) demonstrated the feature of the electro-spun fibers.

  • This paper describes a technique for human sensibility evaluation using 10-channel EEG(electroencephalogram). The proposed method uses the linear predictor coefficients as EEG feature parameters and a neural network as sensibility pattern classifier. For subject independent system, multiple templates are stored and the most similar template can be selected. EEG signals corresponding to 4 emotions such as, relaxation, joy, sadness and anger are collected from 5 armature performers. The states of relaxation and joy are considered as positive sensibility and those of sadness and anger as negative. The classification performance using the proposed method is about 72.6%. This will be promising performance in the human sensibility evaluation.

  • This paper describes a method for detecting a close leading vehicle using the contour of the vehi-cles rear wheels. The contour of a leading vehicles rear wheels in 속 front road image from a B/W CCD camera mounted on the central front bumper of the vehicle, has vertical components and can be discerned clearly in contrast to the road surface. After extracting positive edges and negative edges using the Sobel op-erator in the raw image, every point that can be recognized as a feature of the contour of the leading vehicle wheel is determined. This process can detect the presence of a close leading vehicle, and it is also possible to calculate the distance to the leading vehicle and the lateral deviation angle. This method might be useful for developing and LSA (Low Speed Automation) system that can relieve drivers stress in the stop-and-go traffic conditions encoun-tered on urban roads.

  • Electron swarm parameterdthe drift velocity and longitudinal diffusion coefficienthn $SiH_4-Ar$ mixtures containing 0.5% and 5% monosilane were measured using over the range of E/N from 0.01 to 300 Td at room temperature. Electron swarm parameters in argon were drastically changed by adding a small amount of monosilane. The electron drift velocity in both mixtures showed unusual behaviour against E/N. It had negative slope in the medium range of E/N, yet the slope was not smooth but contained a small hump. The longitudinal diffusion coefficient also showed a corresponding feature in its dependence on E/N. A two-tern approximation of the Boltzmann equation analysis and Monte Carlo simulation have been used to study electron transport coefficients.

  • Experimental and theoretical studies show that all covalent azides possess a nonlinear azide group. They also rationalize this remarkable structural feature. We have seen that the most important non-covalent contributions in the covalently bound azides system (X-N1-N2-N3) are the $\pi$-delocalization over the entire molecule and a strong negative hyperconjugation which donates electron density from the filled $\sigma$ (X-N1) orbital into the unfilled, antibonding $\pi^*$ (N2-N3) orbital. For transition metal azide complexes, a bent configuration and a small difference between the N-N bond lengths, generally the longer one being adjacent to the transition metal, were observed.

  • A Phenanthrene-degrading bacterium, Strain 1-21 was isolated from oil-contaminated soil. This strain was a Gram-negative, aerobic, and rod-shaped bacterium, and exhibited a 99% sequence similarity of 16S rDNA to that of Sphingomonas subarctica. The major cellular fatty acid was a summed feature 7(18:1 w7c, 18:1 w9t, 18:1 s12t), which is a characteristic of the Sphingomonas species. When 200 and 1,000 ppm of phenanthrene was added as the sole carbon source, Strain 1-21 degraded 98% and 67% after 10 days of incubation, respectively. Futhermore, this strain was also able to utilized naphthalene and fluorene as sole carbon and energy sources.
