In Cheongsong area, very rare spherulitic rhyolites both in Korea and foreign countries occur as dykes showing various types. The spherulites in them represent an undercooling caused by very fast cooling of the dykes in a shallow depth near to the surface and the variety of types were resulted from the difference of relative cooling rate. Cheongsong spherulitic rhyolites can be classified into five types; radiated simple spherulite, layered simple spherulite, layered multiple spherulite, radiated-layered multiple spherulite, radiating layered multiple spherulite. Radiated simple and radiating layered multiple spherulites formed by diffusion current caused by undercooling related to very fast cooling. On the other hand, layered multiple spherulites formed by relatively slow diffusion as a Liesegang ring during relatively slow cooling. If the cooling rate is between the two cases, layered simple spherulites formed. This interpretation indicates that Chrysanthemum, Dandelion, Dahlia and Sunflower types which are included in radiated simple or radiating layered multiple spherulites formed in the dykes with the fastest cooling rate in Cheongsong area while Peony, Rose and Innominate types classified as layered multiple spherulite formed in the dykes with the relatively slowest cooling rate. At the cooling rate between them, Apricot type spherulite formed. The K-Ar age-dating for Cheongsong spherulitic rhyolites indicate them to be formed between 48 and 50 Ma. The Cheongsong rhyolites are very valuable for research and preservation because of their rarity, beauty and diversity.
Tricholoma matsutake is a traditional favorite food in East Asia, cultivated in fairy rings called "shiro," which are found near Pinus densiflora. For effective artificial cultivation of Tri. matsutake, microorganisms from symbiotic fairy rings are co-cultivated. In this study, one bacterial isolate (Y22_B35) and two fungal isolates (Y22_F64 and Y22_F68) displayed growth-promoting effects on Tri. matsutake mycelium (158.47, 125.00, and 122.26% enhanced growth, respectively). For identification, 16S rRNA or ITS regions from the microorganisms¡¯ genomes were sequenced. Other sequences, including BenA, CaM, and RPB2 were sequenced in the fungal isolates. The bacterial isolate Y22_B35 was identified as Bacillus cereus. Y22_F64 and Y22_F68 were identified as Umbelopsis nana and Aspergillus parvulus, respectively. To identify the effects of the dominant microorganisms on Tri. Matsutake cultivation, metagenomic analyses were performed. Discovery of these Tri. matsutake mycelium growth-promoting microorganisms and metagenomics analyses are expected to contribute to our understanding of Tri. matsutake fruiting body growth and construction of biomimicry.

This paper deals with the characteristics and reduction methods of the plasma luminosity caused between the ZnO surge arrester block and metal electrodes. In this study, the impulse current generator that can generate $8/20[{\mu}s]$ impulse currents with a peak short-circuit of 10[kA] is designed and fabricated. Plasma luminosity phenomena for fine and used ZnO blocks were observed as a function of the contact states between the ZnO block and electrodes and the polarity of applied impulse voltages. As a result, discharge luminous events are produced near the contact edges between the ZnO block and metal electrodes. The discharge plasma luminosity between the ZnO surge arrester block and low potential electrode is more intensive than that between the ZnO surge arrester block and high potential electrode. Surface flashover of ZnO blocks are mainly caused by plasma generation near the edge of metal electrode. Also, plasma luminosity for the fine ZnO blocks is less than that for the used ZnO blocks. Plasma luminosity at the contact of the ZnO block and ring-type electrode is more intensive than that at the contact of ZnO block and disk electrode. It is desirable to use the disk electrode with the proper contact area to reduce the plasma luminosity caused at the contact point between the ZnO block and electrodes.

The routine analysis of milk chemical components is of major importance both for the management of animals in dairy farms and for quality control in dairy industries. NIRS technology is an analytical technique which greatly simplifies this routine. One of the most critical aspects in NIRS analysis of milk is sample preparation and analysis modes which should be fast and straightforward. An important difficulty when obtaining NIR spectra of milk is the high water content (80 to 90%) of this product, since water absorbs most of the infrared radiation, and, therefore, limits the accuracy of calibrating for other constituents. To avoid this problem, the DESIR system was set up. Other ways of radiation-sample interaction adapted for liquids or semi-liquids exist, which are practically instantaneous and with limited or null necessity of sample preparation: Transmission and Folded Transmission or Transflectance. The objective of the present work is to compare the precision and accuracy of milk calibration equations in two analysis modes: Reflectance (dry milk) and Folded Transmission (liquid milk). A FOSS-NIR Systems 6500 I spectrophotometer (400-2500 nm) provided with a spinning module was used. Two NIR spectroscopic methods for milk analysis were compared: a) folded transmission: liquid milk samples in a 0.1 pathlength sample cell (ref. IH-0345) and b) reflectance: dried milk samples in glass fibre filters placed in a standard ring cell. A set of 101 milk samples was used to develop the calibration equations, for the two NIR analysis modes, to predict casein, protein, fat and dry matter contents, and 48 milk samples to predict Somatic Cell Count (SCC). The calibrations obtained for protein, fat and dry matter have an excellent quantitative prediction power, since they present $r^2$ values higher than 0.9. The $r^2$ values are slightly lower for casein and SCC (0.88 and 0.89 respectively), but they still are sufficiently high. The accuracy of casein, protein and SCC equations is not affected by the analysis modes, since their ETVC values are very similar in reflectance and folded transmission (0.19% vs 0.21%; 0.16% vs 0.19% and 55.57% vs 53.11% respectively), Lower SECV values were obtained for the prediction of fat and dry matter with the folded transmission equations (0.14% and 0.25% respectively) compared to the results with the reflectance ones (0.43% and 0.34% respectively). In terms of accuracy and speed of analytical response, NIRS analysis of liquid milk is recommended (folded transmission), since the drying procedure takes 24 hours. However, both analysis modes offer satisfactory results.
The interactions of Cu(II)-meso-Tetrakis(n-N-methylpyridiniumyl)porphyrin (n = 2,3,4), respectively referred to as o-, m- and p-CuTMPyP, and DNA, poly$[d(A-T)_2]$ and poly$[d(G-C)_2]$ were investigated by circular and linear dichroism (CD and LD). In the o-CuTMPyP case, in which the rotation of the pyridinium ring is prevented, the shape of the CD spectrum when associated to DNA and poly$[d(A-T)_2]$ resembles and is characterized by a positive band at a low drug to DNA concentration ratio (R ratio) and is bisignate at a high R ratio. The former CD spectrum shape has been attributed to porphyrin that is bound monomerically outside of DNA while the latter can be attributed to those that are stacked. When o-CuTMPyP is bound to poly$[d(G-C)_2]$, the excitonic CD appeared at a relatively high R ratio. In contrast, a characteristic negative CD band in the Soret region was apparent for both m- and p-CuTMPyP when bound to DNA and poly$[d(G-C)_2]$ at the low R ratios, indicating that the porphyrin molecule intercalates. However, the DNA is bent near the intercalation site and the plane of the porphyrin molecule tilts relative to the DNA helix axis, as judged by the magnitude of the reduced LD. Various stacking patterns were identified by the shape of the CD spectrum for m- and p-CuTMPyP when bound to poly$[d(A-T)_2]$. Three species for the former complex and two for the latter complex were found which may reflect the extent of the stacking.
Polymerization shrinkage stress analysis of dimethacrylate-based composite (Clearfil AP-X, Kuraray) and silorane-based composite (Filtek P90, 3M ESPE) used for dental composite restorations was performed using strain-gage measurement and FEM analysis. A theoretical equation based on Young's modulus and polymerization shrinkage of the composite resin was proposed to predict the polymerization shrinkage stress. Experimental results showed that the maximum shrinkage stress of Clearfil AP-X was about 2.8 times higher than Filtek P90. FEM analysis agreed with such experimental stress behaviours and showed that the maximum Von-Mises stress appeared near the margin of the filled resin adhered with PMMA ring. The stress concentration at the interface on the specimen surface was higher than that in the interior. The maximum error of shrinkage stress by the theoretical equation was reasonable within 5% in comparison to FEM results under plane stress.
The growth of Daphniphyllum macropodum at Mt. Naejang National Park(Naejang temple area) was investigated in connection with the climatic factors by the use of tree-ring analysis. A pair of cores was extracted from each of 18 trees in the D. macropodum community area near Younjabong for the analysis. The period of mater chronology based upon D. macropodum covers from 1915 to 1998. The growth rates of D. macropodum were very poor in the years 1920, 1932, 1934, 1937, 1942, 1946, 1964, 1969 and 1985, respectively. Response function was employed to understand the relationship between the growth of D. macropodum and climatic factors. The response function of the growth rates of D. macropodum indicated significant negative correlation with the precipitation of August and September. Poor growth of D. macropodum during the August and September nay be due to the frequent rain periods during the summer The heavy rain during the summer seems to decrease the solar radiation, which eventually caused the decrease of photosynthesis capacity. In conclusion, we hypothesize that the decrease of the photosynthesis rates during the rainy summer seasons may cause the slower growth of D. macropodum.
The zodiacal light emission is the thermal emission from the interplanetary dust and the dominant diffuse radiation in the mid- to far-infrared wavelength region. Even in the far-infrared, the contribution of the zodiacal emission is not negligible at the region near the ecliptic plane. The AKARI far-infrared all-sky survey covered 97% of the whole sky in four photometric bands with band central wavelengths of 65, 90, 140, and $160{\mu}m$. AKARI detected the small-scale structure of the zodiacal dust cloud, such as the asteroidal dust bands and the circumsolar ring, in far-infrared wavelength region. Although the most part of the zodiacal light structure in the AKARI far-infrared all-sky image can be well reproduced with the DIRBE zodiacal light model, there are discrepancies in the small-scale structures. In particular, the intensity and the ecliptic latitude of the peak position of the asteroidal dust bands cannot be reproduced precisely with the DIRBE models. The AKARI observational data during more than one year has advantages over the 10-month DIRBE data in modeling the full-sky zodiacal dust cloud. The resulting small-scale zodiacal light structure template has been used to subtract the zodiacal light from the AKARI all-sky maps.
The surface structures, adsorption conditions, and thermal desorption behaviors of cyclopentanethiol (CPT) self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) on Au(111) were investigated by scanning tunneling microscopy (STM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and thermal desorption spectroscopy (TDS). STM imaging revealed that although the adsorption of CPT on Au(111) at room temperature generates disordered SAMs, CPT molecules at $50^{\circ}C$ formed well-ordered SAMs with a $(2{\surd}3{\times}{\surd}5)R41^{\circ}$ packing structure. XPS measurements showed that CPT SAMs at room temperature were formed via chemical reactions between the sulfur atoms and gold surfaces. TDS measurements showed two dominant TD peaks for the decomposed fragments ($C_5H_9^+$, m/e = 69) generated via C-S bond cleavage and the parent molecular species ($C_5H_9SH^+$, m/e = 102) derived from a recombination of the chemisorbed thiolates and hydrogen atoms near 440 K. Interestingly, dimerization of sulfur atoms in n-alkanethiol SAMs usually occurs during thermal desorption and the same reaction did not happen for CPT SAMs, which may be due to the steric hindrance of cyclic rings of the CPT molecules. In this study, we demonstrated that the alicyclic ring of organic thiols strongly affected the surface structure and thermal desorption behavior of SAMs, thus providing a good method for controlling chemical and physical properties of organic thiol SAMs.
To develop the optimal design method for the longline type scallop culturing facilities in the open sea numerical calculations and hydraulic model experiments are carried out for the stability and function optimization. Using the results for the motion and tension of the facilities, stable design concepts and effects of motion control system by vertical anchor and resistance discs art discussed. The results of this study that can be applied to the design are as follows: 1) Total external forces by design wave $(H_{1/3}\;=\;6,7\;m,\;T_{1/3}\;=\;12sec)$ at the coastal waters of Jumunjin for unit facility (one main line) are estimated to 5-20 tons, and required anchor weights are 10-40 tons in the case of 2-point mooring system. Though the present facilities are stable to steady currents, but is unstable to the extreme wave condition of return period of 10 years. 2) The dimensions and depth of array systems must be designed considering the ecological environments as well as the physical characteristics including the mooring and holding forces that are proportional to the length and relative depth of main line to wave length, and the number of buoys and nets. 3) Oscillation of the facility is influenced by water particle motion and the weight of hanging net, and is excited at both edge, especially at the lee side. To reduce the motion of the nets, the vertical anchoring system and the resistence disc method are recommended by the experimental results, 4) The damage of rope near the anchor by abrasion should be prevented using the ring-type connection parts or anchor chains.
