Pressure sensitive adhesive (PSA) based on 2-ethylhexyl acrylate (2-EHA)/acrylic acid (AA) copolymer was synthesized using different photoinitiators. Results showed that PSA with Irgacure$^{(R)}$651 (benzyldimethylketal) and Irgacure$^{(R)}$184(1-hydroxy-cyclohexylphenyl ketone) proved to be good for adhesion properties. This may be attributed to strong absorption near 350 nm wavelength and also high solubility in monomer mixtures. The addition of Irgacure$^{(R)}$819, bisacylphosphine oxides as a photoinitiator caused cohesive failure with high loading in a peel test owing to the additional radical formation. It is assumed that the insoluble photoinitiator reacts with oxygene, which may act as a hydrogen donor.

New lithography techniques are employed for the patterning of arbitrary shapes in nanometer scale. When, in the photolithography, the electromagnetic waves such as UV and X-ray are incident on the mask patterned in nanometer scale, the diffraction effect is unavoidable and degrades images of the mask imprinted on wafer. Only a convex lens is well-known Fourier transformer. It is possible to make the mask Fourier-transformed with the convex lens, even though the size of pattern on the mask is very large compared to the wavelength of electromagnetic wave. If the mask, modified according to new technique described in this paper, was placed at the front of the lens and was illuminated with laser beam, the nanometer-size patterns are only formed on the plane called Fourier transform plane. The new method presented here is quite simple setup and comparable with present and next generation lithographies such as UV/EUV photolithograpy and electron projection lithography when compared in attainable minimum linewidth. In this paper, we showed our theoretical research work in the field of Fourier optics, . In the near future, we are going to verify this theoretical work by experiments.

The purpose of this study is to check color change, color fastness, increase wt., antibiosis, and UV-protection efficiency depending on gallnut concentrations and mordanting methods, when silk fabrics dye with gromwell according to pH. This results will contribute in developing of natural mordant with multi function. The results are as follows. ${\lambda}_{max}$ of Gallnut extracts was near 299 nm. When gallnut was used as a mordant, at all pH levels, pre-mordanted fabrics had red color and post-mordanted ones had red-purple color which was closed to natural color of gromwell. Brightness of post-mordanted fabrics was higher than that of pre-mordanted fabrics. In the case of chroma, pre-mordanted fabrics was higher than post-mordanted fabrics. There was no significant difference of color, brightness, and chroma depending on gallnut concentration. As mordanting concentration increased, fabric weight gradually went up and increase weight reached maximum $17{\sim}19%$. At all pH levels, color fastness improved by pre-mordanting and post-mordanting, and it showed the maximum $4{\sim}5$ grade of wet fastness and 5 grade of dry cleaning. Antibiosis of silk fabric was improved by gromwell dyeing and synthetic tannin mordanting. Antibiosis of gallnut extracts was excellent. The color fastness and antibiosis were preserved after 10 cycle dry cleaning. UV-protection efficiency was excellent by dyeing with gromwell and mordanting with gallnut.
The SNF2/SW12 family comprises proteins from a variety of species with in vivo functions, such as transcriptional regulation, maintenance of chromosome stability during mitosis, and various types of DNA repair. This study was shown the characterization of hrp2+ gene which was isolated by PCR amplification using the conserved domain of SNF2 motifs. Sequence analysis of hrp2+ gene showed striking evolutionary conservation among the SNF2 family of proteins. The transcript of hrp2+ gene was found to be a 4.7 kb as identified by Northern hybridization. To investigate the inducibility of hrp2+ gene, transcript levels were examined after treating the cells to various DNA damaging agents. The transcripts of hrp2+ were induced by UV-irradiation. But the transcripts were not induced by treatment of $ 0.25\%$ Methylmethane sulfonate (MMS). These results implied that the effects of damaging agents are complex and different regulatory pathways exist for the induction of this gene. Hrp2 protein was purified near homogeneity by combination of affinity chromatography. We tested the purified Hrp2 protein for the helicase activity in an oligonucleotide release assay. However we were unable to detect any helicase activity associated with the Hrp2 protein, indicating that the helicase motifs in Hrp2 are merely indicators of a broader DNA-dependent ATPase activity.
The polymers, polyazine, polyazomethine ( I ) and polyazomethine ( II ) were prepared by the condensation of p-benzoquinone with hydrazine hydrate, p-phenylenediamine and diaminomaleonitrile in DMSO, respectively. The IR spectra of these polymers showed a characteristic peak of schiff base (-C=N-) at about $1600cm^{-1}$. These polymers dissolved in concentrated sulfuric acid showed UV/VIS absorption near 300nm indicatiog the presence of iminium ion(>$C\limits^{\small\oplus}=NH-$). Another UV/VIS absorption band in the region of 350~415nm was shown presumably due to the charge transfer transition in the molecule. The electrical conductivities of polyazine, polyazomethine ( I ) and ( II ) were measured. The self-electrical conductivity of these was found to be about $10^{-14}{\sim}10^{-11}{\Omega}^{-1}cm^{-1}$ and these polymers doped with $I_2$ showed the maximum conductivity of about $10^{-2}{\Omega}^{-1}cm^{-1}$.
We have synthesized a $Eu^{2+}-activated\;Sr_3MgSi_2O_8$ blue phosphor and $(Sr,Ba)_2SiO_4$ yellow phosphor and prepared white LEDs by combining these phosphors with a InGaN UV LED chip. Three distinct emission bands from the InGaN-based LED and the two phosphors are clearly observed at 405 nm, 460 nm and at around 560 nm, respectively. The 405 nm emission band is due to a radiative recombination from a InGaN active layer. This blue emission was used as an optical transition of the $Sr_3MgSi_2O_8:Eu$ blue phosphor and $(Sr,Ba)_2SiO_4:Eu$ yellow phosphor. The 460 nm and 560 nm emission band is ascribed to a radiative recombination of $Eu^{2+}$ impurity ions in the $Sr_3MgSi_2O_8:Eu$ and $(Sr,Ba)_2SiO_4$ host matrix. As a consequence of a preparation of UV White LED lamp using the $Sr_3MgSi_2O_8:Eu$ blue phosphor and $(Sr,Ba)_2SiO_4:Eu$ yellow phosphor, the highest luminescence efficiency was obtained at the ration of epoxy/two phosphor (1/0.2361). At this time, the CIE chromaticity was CIE x = 0.3140, CIE y = 0.3201 and CCT (6500 K).
To broaden the understanding of classical Cepheid structure, evolution and atmospheres, we have extended our continuing secret lives of Cepheids program by obtaining XMM/Chandra X-ray observations, and Hubble space telescope (HST) / cosmic origins spectrograph (COS) FUV-UV spectra of the bright, nearby Cepheids Polaris, ${\delta}$ Cep and ${\beta}$ Dor. Previous studies made with the international ultraviolet explorer (IUE) showed a limited number of UV emission lines in Cepheids. The well-known problem presented by scattered light contamination in IUE spectra for bright stars, along with the excellent sensitivity & resolution combination offered by HST/COS, motivated this study, and the spectra obtained were much more rich and complex than we had ever anticipated. Numerous emission lines, indicating $10^4$ K up to ${\sim}3{\times}10^5$ K plasmas, have been observed, showing Cepheids to have complex, dynamic outer atmospheres that also vary with the photospheric pulsation period. The FUV line emissions peak in the phase range ${\varphi}{\approx}0.8-1.0$ and vary by factors as large as $10{\times}$. A more complete picture of Cepheid outer atmospheres is accomplished when the HST/COS results are combined with X-ray observations that we have obtained of the same stars with XMM-Newton & Chandra. The Cepheids detected to date have X-ray luminosities of log $L_X{\approx}28.5-29.1$ ergs/sec, and plasma temperatures in the $2-8{\times}106$ K range. Given the phase-timing of the enhanced emissions, the most plausible explanation is the formation of a pulsation-induced shocks that excite (and heat) the atmospheric plasmas surrounding the photosphere. A pulsation-driven ${\alpha}^2$ equivalent dynamo mechanism is also a viable and interesting alternative. However, the tight phase-space of enhanced emission (peaking near 0.8-1.0 ${\varphi}$) favor the shock heating mechanism hypothesis.

A new compound, 1,2-bispyrazyl ethylene,is synthesized starting from pyrazine carboxylic acid and methyl pyrazine. The compound is characterized utilizing UV-VIS, IR, NMR and mass spectra along with elemental analysis. Spectroscopic properties are studied from UV-VIS and fluorescence spectra. From unusual salt effects on fluorescence spectra, it is believed that $(n,\;{\pi}^*)$ state has about the same energy as $({\pi},\;{\pi}^*)$ state. The compound fluoresces from $({\pi},\;{\pi}^*)$ state with the quantum yield of 0.025 at $77^{\circ}K$ compared to near unity for stilbene at the same temperature indicating the efficient intersystem crossing to triplet state, because of strong $(n,\;{\pi}^*)$ and $({\pi},\;{\pi}^*)$ mixing in the lowest excited state.

The spectroscopic characteristics of Pu (III, IV, V, VI) in the HCl media were investigated by measuring Pu oxidation states using a UV-Vis-NIR spectrophotometer (400-1200 nm) after adjusting Pu oxidation states with oxidation/reduction reagents. Pu in stock solution was reduced to Pu(III) with $NH_2OH$ HCl, and oxidized to Pu(IV) and Pu(VI) with $NaNO_2$ and $HClO_4$, respectively. Also, Pu(V) was adjusted in the Pu(VI) solution with $NH_2OH$ HCl. The major absorption peaks of Pu (IV) and Pu(III) were measured in the 470 m and 600 nm, respectively. The major absorption peaks of Pu (VI) and Pu(V) were measured in the 830 nm and 1135 nm, respectively. There was not found to be significant changes of UV-Vis absorption spectra for Pu(III), Pu(IV) and Pu(VI) with aging time, except that an unstable Pu(V) immediately reduced to Pu(III).

It has been a big mystery what drives filament eruptions and flares. We have studied in detail an X1.8 flare and its associated filament eruption that occurred in NOAA Active Region 9236 on November 24,2000. For this work we have analyzed high temporal (about 1 minute) and spatial (about 1 arcsec) resolution images taken by Michelson Doppler Imager (MDI) onboard the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory, Hoc centerline and blue wing ($-0.6{\AA}$) images from Big Bear Solar Observatory, and 1600 ${\AA}$ UV images by the Transition Region and Corona Explorer (TRACE). We have found that there were several transient brightenings seen in H$\alpha$ and, more noticeably in TRACE 1600 ${\AA}$ images around the preflare phase. A closer look at the UV brightenings in 1600 ${\AA}$ images reveals that they took place near one end of the erupting filament, and are a kind of jets supplying mass into the transient loops seen in 1600 ${\AA}$. These brightenings were also associated with canceling magnetic features (CMFs) as seen in the MDI magnetograms. The flux variations of these CMFs suggest that the flux cancellation may have been driven by the emergence of the new flux. For this event, we have estimated the ejection speeds of the filament ranging from 10 to 160 km $s^{-1}$ for the first twenty minutes. It is noted that the initiation of the filament eruption (as defined by the rise speed less than 20 km $s^{-1}$) coincided with the preflare activity characterized by UV brightenings and CMFs. The speed of the associated LASCO CME can be well extrapolated from the observed filament speed and its direction is consistent with those of the disturbed UV loops associated with the preflare activity. Supposing the H$\alpha$/UV transient brightenings and the canceling magnetic features are due to magnetic reconnect ion in the low atmosphere, our results may be strong observational evidence supporting that the initiation of the filament eruption and the preflare phase of the associated flare may be physically related to low-atmosphere magnetic reconnection.
