Navigational Path Detection Using Fuzzy Binarization and Hough Transform (퍼지 이진화와 허프 변환을 이용한 주행 경로 검출)

  • In conventional methods for car navigational path detection using Hough transform, navigational path deviation of a car is decided in car navigational images with simple background. But in case of car navigational images having complex background with obstacles on the road, shadows, other cars, and so on, it is very difficult to detect navigational path because these obstacles obstruct correct detection of car navigational path. In this paper, I proposed an effective navigational path detection method having better performance than conventional navigational path detection methods using Hough transform only, and fuzzy binarization method and Canny mask are applied in the proposed method for the better performance. In order to evaluate the performance of the proposed method, I experimented with 20 car navigational images and verified the proposed method is more effective for detection of navigational path.

Evaluation of Navigational Safety Using the Integrated Seakeeping Performance Index under Loading Conditions of a Ship (선박의 적화 상태별 종합내항성능지표에 의한 항해 안전성 평가)

  • Generally, the navigational safety of a ship under various loading conditions is evaluated by a loading manual. However, the loading manual handles only statical factors such as weight and buoyancy of ship without including any wave conditions. Practically ship's safety is much concerned with the occurrences on the rough sea as propeller racing, rolling, deck wetness, vertical acceleration, lateral acceleration, slamming and so on. The purpose of this paper is to present a synthetic and practical evaluation method of navigational safety using the integrated seakeeping performance index(ISPI) under loading conditions of ship in seaways. The method is calculated by means of the ISPI by measuring only vertical acceleration. Judgement of dangerousness is carried out for four lading conditions : homogeneous full loaded, half loaded, heavy ballast loaded, and normal ballast loaded conditions. In developing the practical evaluation system of navigational safety, it is useful to solve the difficulties in measuring factors by sensors. And by applying the evaluation diagrames, navigators are able to avoid dangerousness by keeping away of the danger encountering angle of wave direction which the diagram shows.

  • This paper is concerned with the design and construction of navigational interfaces on the web-based multimedia courseware, in particular for the education of elementary school children. Three different types of navigational strategies for the different structures of information are discussed. For hierarchically organised subject material, a single menu list is considered to be the most appropriate means of navigation. The interface of the 'Study of the Internet' provides a combination of child and sibling menus and sequential tools. The menus are used for navigating topics and subtopics, and the sequential method is used for navigating pages. The final navigational interface has the advantages of allowing the student flexible navigation, and proving an indication of progress through the subject material. Finally, the combination of menu and sequential navigational methods allow a student to maintain context, whilst navigating through different levels of hierarchical information. It thus reduces the danger that the student will lose their way, without overconstraining the navigational path.

The Relationships Between Navigational Pattens and Information Processing Styles of Hypermedia Users (하이퍼미디어 사용자의 정보처리 유형이 정보탐색 패턴에 미치는 영향)

  • This study investigated the relationships between hypermedia users information processing styles and navigational patterns. Three aspects of navigational patterns were investigated: (a) navigational breadth patterns which reveal how comprehensively users access, (b) navigational path patterns which display what sequences users follow. and (c) navigational method patterns which show what methods u users employ when using the system. Information processing styles were measured by the Human Information Processing Styles(HIPS) Survey. The subjects were 102 undergraduate students enrolled in management courses at a university. Participation was voluntary 34 students were selected for each of left, right, and integrated information processor group. The subjects interacted with A.g.i.l.e. TrainerTM program to complete two types of searching tasks 'open-ended and closed-ended tasks' Findings indicated that the information processing style seems to play an important role in how an individual interacts with the hypermedia systems.

  • Marine Casualties cause the loss of hmm lives, properties and marine pollution. The prevention of marine accidents has been a major topic in marine society and various policies and countermeasures have been developed, applied to the industries. The coastal VTS and navigational aids are considered as one of the effective methods to promote marine safety but they need relatively huge amount of budgets to build. Thus prior to establishing these coastal VTS and navigational aids, it should be evaluated the navigational safety level in the coastal waterways in concern. So far as human beings are concerned, there are many types of fuzziness in the evaluation of navigational safety level. In order to reflect these fuzziness on this evaluation, this paper introduces the fuzzy measure and integral to represent the fuzziness in the evaluation process. Therefore this paper aims to develop the method for this evaluation using the fuzzy measure and integral. In this paper, Korean coastal area is divided into 8 sectors and evaluated the priority for the needs of coastal VTS and navigational aids. The results are found as order as Mokpo, Yosu, Pohang, Busan, Inchon, Geoje, Gunsan, Donghae coastal area.

  • A Web-Based Information System(WBIS), a typical structure of recently information systems, should be dynamically restructured in order to satisfy user's need and make a profit. Thus, we should analyze and modelize the navigational structure of WBIS and utilize it by modeling the navigational structure of behavior of user through log-file as system restructuring. In this paper, we propose the modeling method for navigational structure and user behavior to restructure WBIS including shopping mall. Also, we suggest the structural model, state transition model, Petri net model and analysis method and analyze and implement modeling algorithm for user behavior to analyze log-file of it. Then, we propose some restructuring heuristic and apply the methods to the example of WBIS.

Collision risk assessment based on the vulnerability of marine accidents using fuzzy logic

  • Based on the trend, there have been numerous researches analysing the ship collision risk. However, in this scope, the navigational conditions and external environment are ignored or incompletely considered in training or/and real situation. It has been identified as a significant limitation in the navigational collision risk assessment. Therefore, a novel algorithm of the ship navigational collision risk solving system has been proposed based on basic collision risk and vulnerabilities of marine accidents. The vulnerability can increase the possibility of marine collision accidents. The factors of vulnerabilities including bad weather, tidal currents, accidents prone area, traffic congestion, operator fatigue and fishing boat operating area are involved in the fuzzy reasoning engines to evaluate the navigational conditions and environment. Fuzzy logic is employed to reason basic collision risk using Distance to Closest Point of Approach (DCPA) and Time of Closest Point of Approach (TCPA) and the degree of vulnerability in the specific coastal waterways. Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) method is used to obtain the integration of vulnerabilities. In this paper, vulnerability factors have been proposed to improve the collision risk assessment especially for non-SOLAS ships such as coastal operating ships and fishing vessels in practice. Simulation is implemented to validate the practicability of the designed navigational collision risk solving system.

The ISPI is defined by measuring only any one factor through the medium of relative dangerousness of the other factors for evaluating seakeeping performance. This evaluation method can be applied to the ships for any types and loading conditions. In devloping the practical evaluation system of navigational safety, it is expected to be useful to solve the difficulties in measuring factors by sensors. The results are also useful for devloping the optimum type of ship by applying at the initial design phase.

Pattern Recognition of Ship Navigational Data Using Support Vector Machine

  • A ship's sailing route or plan is determined by the master as the decision maker of the vessel, and depends on the characteristics of the navigational environment and the conditions of the ship. The trajectory, which appears as a result of the ship's navigation, is monitored and stored by a Vessel Traffic Service center, and is used for an analysis of the ship's navigational pattern and risk assessment within a particular area. However, such an analysis is performed in the same manner, despite the different navigational environments between coastal areas and the harbor limits. The navigational environment within the harbor limits changes rapidly owing to construction of the port facilities, dredging operations, and so on. In this study, a support vector machine was used for processing and modeling the trajectory data. A K-fold cross-validation and a grid search were used for selecting the optimal parameters. A complicated traffic route similar to the circumstances of the harbor limits was constructed for a validation of the model. A group of vessels was composed, each vessel of which was given various speed and course changes along a specified route. As a result of the machine learning, the optimal route and voyage data model were obtained. Finally, the model was presented to Vessel Traffic Service operators to detect any anomalous vessel behaviors. Using the proposed data modeling method, we intend to support the decision-making of Vessel Traffic Service operators in terms of navigational patterns and their characteristics.
