Carbon Material from Natural Sources as an Anode in Lithium Secondary Battery

  • Carbon materials of various morphologies were synthesized by pyrolysis of Soap-nut seeds (Sapindus mukorossi), Jack Fruit seeds (Artocarpus heterophyllus), Date-seeds (Phoenix dactylifera), Neem seeds (Azadirachta indica), Tea leaves (Ehretia microphylla), Bamboo stem (Bambusa bambus) and Coconut fiber (Cocos nucifera), without using any catalyst. Carbon materials thus formed were characterized by SEM XRD and Raman. Carbon thus synthesized varied in size (in ${\mu}m$) but all showed highly porous morphology. These carbon materials were utilized as the anode in Lithium secondary battery. Amongst the various precursors, carbon fibers obtained from Soap-nut seeds (Sapindus mukorossi) and Bamboo stem (Bambusa bambus), even after $100^{th}$ cycles, showed the highest capacity of 130.29 mAh/g and 92.74 mAh/g respectively. Morphology, surface areas and porosity of carbon materials obtained from these precursors were analyzed to provide interpretation for their capacity to intercalate lithium. From the Raman studies it is concluded that graphitic nature of carbon materials assist in the intercalation of lithium. Size of cavity (or pore size of channels type structure) present in carbon materials were found to facilitate the intercalation of lithium.

폐감률피에서 추출한 limonene 오일의 세정성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Cleaning Efficiency using the d-Limonene Oil Extracted in Wasted Mandarin Peels)

  • The object of this research is to conform of practicable possibility and recycling of producing junk after citrus fruits is processed. With extracting d-limonene oil that have 70~90% a component of oil out of junk citrus peel, making certain the about 12000ppm concentration of it. Limonene derived from citrus in jeju using conventional synthetic detergents can be replaced with the development of environmentally friendly natural detergent investigated the possibility. Mostly due to ocean dumping, disposal and cause environmental problems by recycling natural citrus cleaner alternative to the research conducted on the possibility. Cleaning efficiency with temperature did not affect the largest concentrations were able to identify the difference between cleaning efficiency. At least 10% of the d-limonene oil could be from the cleaning performance, increasing the concentration of the cleaning efficiency was increased in size. Ultrasonic is very high removal efficiency under the conditions shown in the cause of pure self-generated ultrasonic cleaning power as co-effects of d-limonene oil appears to chemical cleaning effect of ultrasonic cavitation occurs in the physical cleaning effect due to a combination of synergistic stability is maximized by low concentrations of d-limonene oil in a short time showed an excellent cleaning ability. Having the ability of cleaning at the same time, considering the side recycling in the junk citrus peels reflects possibility of basic materials utility eco-friendly in the skin soap, bath soap, cosmetics etc, through ability of exclusion a contaminant in based cleaning effect(EC) it can prospect substitution effect environmentally in the pre existence synthetic detergents.

Effect of facial cosmetic containing Prunus persica L. Batsch leaves extract on men's skin condition

  • Today, men's appearance is an important part of the global fashion industry, including Korea, with such fashion concepts as the Metrosexual and Ubersexual. Domestic and overseas beauty and cosmetics related organizations are using this phenomenon for marketing and researching to improve the function of cosmetics. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of Prunus persica L. Batsch leaf extract on the skin condition after clinical application to male subjects with oily skin to determine the possibility of functional cosmetics utilizing this extract. The cleansing bars were prepared by the MP method and the cleansing packs were prepared using natural ingredients. After 8 weeks of application, moisture, oil, erythema, melanin, pH, elasticity and tactile sensation were measured using MPA5. The results showed that there was a statistically significant difference in T-zone moisture and T-zone oil after using the natural cleansing bar, but there was no significant difference between the two groups for other items. However, the statistically significant changes were found in the individual skin condition change items of the subjects in each group, and it was judged that the two kinds of formulations could be used at the same time to have a higher skin improvement effect. Thus, Prunus persica L. Batsch leaf extract demonstrates potential to be used as a functional cosmetics item.

전해수를 이용한 견섬유 정련 및 세리신 회수 (I) (The Degumming and Sericin Recovery of the Silk fabric Using the Electrolytic Water)

  • Natural silk is formed by two proteins : the crystalline fibroin (inside the silk thread) and amorphous sericin (as a tube outside the thread). The degumming process is used to eliminate the external sericin prior to dyeing ; generally it makes use of soaps at about pH 10. Sericin is the protein constituent that "gums"together the fibroin filaments of cocoon silk. It constitutes about 25% of the weight of the cocoon, is soluble in hot water and "gels" on cooling. The removal of sericin from raw silk, known as degumming, is a simple but important process usually employing hot dilute soap or alkaline solution and occasionally dilute acids or enzymic methods. During degumming, alkali is taken up by the sericin and the free acid from the soap is formed ; this may be deposited on the fiber, reducing the rate of degumming and protecting it from hydrolysis. Alkali is often added to maintain or restore the pH of the baths, but it is rarely used alone, since it leaves the silk rather harsh in handle. If complete sericin removal is required as for printing, sodium carbonate may be added. If the pH of the bath exceeds 11, the fibroin is attacked. Recently, According to the development of electrolysis, we can be obtained the electrolytic reduction water(above pH 11.5) and electrolytic oxidation water (below pH 3). The aim of this work was to study a degumming process using electrolytic water and a possibility of sericin recovery. The new degumming process used electrolytic water operates at $95^\circ{C}$ for 2hr. without any reagents. The wastewater of this process are formed by a solution of sericin in water. This conditions suggest the study of a possible recovery of this protein (sericin) which has an amino acid composition suitable for many used in cosmetics, textile finishing agents, animal feeding, etc. The degumming process using electrolytic water is available to reduce treatment costs and pollute and at the same time to recover sericin.

견의 효소 정련에 관한 연구 (A Study on Enzymatic Degummings of Raw Silk and Silk Fabric)

  • 생사 및 견직물에 대한 효소정련방법을 구명하기 위한 시험 결과 1. 각종 효소정련조건이 정련효율에 비치는 영향에 있어서 정련온도 및 정련용의 산도는 Papain 7$0^{\circ}C$, pH 5-6, Trypsin 4$0^{\circ}C$ pH 8, Alkalase 50-6$0^{\circ}C$, pH 8-9에서 각각 정련효율이 가장 높았다. 2. Alkalase 처리농도가 생사의 정련효율에 미치는 영향에 있어서 처리농도가 0.6-1.0g/l 범위에서 높이면 정련시간을 단축시킬 수 있다. 3. 생사의 Alkalase정련에 있어서 정련전처리(95$^{\circ}C$, 10분 1g/l NaHCO3) 또는 정련후처리(2%, o.w.f. sodium silicate, 8$0^{\circ}C$, 20분)를 행하면 정련효율을 향상시킬 수 있었다. 4. 효소정련견사의 강력(g/d), 신도 및 라우지네스 성적은 비누 정련견사에 비하여 향상되는 경향이었다. 5. Alkalase에 의한 효소정련에 있어서 생견직물의 조련정도가 정련효율에 미치는 영향은 조련연감율이 높을수록 효소정련효율이 높았으며 205 이상에서는 하부다에 및 크\ulcorner데신 모두 완전한 정련이 가능하였다. 6. 조련연감율을 20%로 한 견포에 대하여 3종의 효소정련을 실시한 경우 Papain 및 Trypsin 정련구는 Alkalase 정련구에 비하여 정련효율이 저하되었다. 7. 효소정련견포의 강건도는 크\ulcorner데신의 경우 1.27cm로서 대조인 비누소오다 정련견포 1.53cm에 비하여 17% 저하되었고 Drape 계수는 0.297로서 비누소오다 정련견포의 0.321에 비하여 7% 감소됨으로서 유건한 촉감이 향상되었다.

Soybean-based Green Adhesive for Environment-friendly Furniture Material

  • Over the last decade, Sick Building Syndrome has become a significant social issue in Korea and many methods have been considered to maintain comfortable indoor air quality. To reduce toxic substances emitted from wood composite products, the source control is an efficient method through the reduction of formaldehyde content by using natural material-based adhesives for composite wood products production. Among alternative materials, soybean protein is considered an appropriate natural material to replace formaldehyde-based resin and many efforts have been made to produce new products, such as soap, shampoo, ink, resin, adhesive and textile through changing the chemical or physical properties of soybean. To process soybeans into these useful products, the beans are dehulled and the oil is removed by crushing at very high pressure or by solvent extraction. For use soybean as an adhesive, it is processed at temperatures below $70^{\circ}C$ to preserve the alkaline solubility of the proteins. In addition, soybean-based adhesive is undergone treatment process to improve mechanical properties using urea, urease inhibitor N-(n-butyl) thiophosphoric triamide and sodium dodecyl sulfate. The modified soybean-based adhesive exhibited sufficient mechanical properties to use as an adhesive for composite wood products. This paper is a review article to discuss the possibilities of soybean-based adhesive for environment-friendly furniture materials.

Comparison of the Degree of Bacterial Removal by Hand Hygiene Products

  • Background: The coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic increased awareness regarding the importance of hand hygiene in infection prevention. Although social distancing and vaccination are the strongest ways to prevent infection, personal hand hygiene is the most basic and easiest way to maintain public health. However, in addition to hand washing using running water, sanitizing tissues, and disinfection products are convenient for hand hygiene, especially outdoors. Therefore, it is necessary to improve the appropriateness of individual hand hygiene methods. In this study, we investigated the degree of hand hygiene offered by various hygiene products and hand drying methods for maintaining hand hygiene. Methods: An LED UV light kit was used for fluorescent observation of hand contamination. Bacteria from the hands were cultured to compare the degree of hand hygiene offered by various hygiene products. Bacteria were cultured in a hand-shaped medium dish to identify areas vulnerable to hand hygiene. Moreover, the degree of hand hygiene was observed according to the drying method using bacterial cultures. Results: We confirmed that hand washing under running water with antibacterial soap, sanitizing with alcohol gel disinfectant, and wiping with antibacterial wet wipes was effective for hand hygiene compared to washing under running water alone. However, for all hygiene products, a large number of bacteria were detected on the fingertips. We verified that natural drying, rather than rubbing, is effective in maintaining hand hygiene. Conclusion: These results suggest that hand hygiene products and drying methods are critical in hand hygiene management. Therefore, these results provide a basis for determining whether an individual's hand hygiene management method is appropriate.

건축 설계프로세스와 형상해석을 통한 막 구조물의 형상결정 방안에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Shape-Decision Technique of Membrane Structures According to the Design Process and Shape Analysis)

  • 막 구조물을 설계하기 위해서는 우선 초기장력 도입으로 인한 구조물의 형상을 정확히 알아야 한다. 이를 위해서 모형을 통한 모델링이나 컴퓨터를 이용한 형상해석이 요구되며, 초기장력의 도입으로 형성되는 막 구조물의 곡면은 일반적으로 등장력 곡면이다. 이와 같은 특성을 가진 막 구조물은 모형만을 대상으로 형상을 구할 때에는 정량적으로 형상의 정보를 얻기가 힘들고, 형상해석만을 수행한 경우는 예기치 않은 문제가 발생하기도 한다. 또 설계자의 의도에 따른 형상은 실질적으로 등장력 곡면에 부합되지 않는 경우가 많고, 심지어 실현 불가능한 발생한다. 따라서 설계프로세스에 따른 구조물의 형상에 부합되면서 실현가능한 형상으로의 초기형상 결정과정은 막 구조물의 설계에 있어서 무엇보다 중요한 과정이다. 본 연구에서는 건축 설계프로세스에 따른 모델링과 수치적 형상해석과의 결과에 대한 차이를 살펴보고 피드벡 과정을 통하여 막 구조물의 초기형상을 결정하는 프로세스에 대해서 연구한다.

자연치즈와 치즈향 농축물의 화학적, 관능적 분석에 의한 향미 비교 (Comparison of GC Profile and Sensory Properties of Fermented Cheese Flavor Concentrates and Cheese Varieties)

  • Cheddar, Emmentaler, Parmesan 그리고 Roquefort 치즈 등 자연 숙성 치즈와 지방 분해효소를 첨가하여 발효시킨 뒤 치즈향 농축물의 휘발성 향기 성분을 GC 및 관능적 분석을 통하여 비교하였다. 저급지방산이 그 특유의 향미를 나타내는데 가장 큰 영향을 미치는 성분으로 알려진 Parmesan 치즈향 농축물과 향미와 주성분으로 알려진 Cheddar 치즈향 농축물은 그 함량이 다른 시료 보다 10배 이상 높게 나타났따. 또한 메틸 케톤이 그 독특한 풍미의 결정적 온도가 되는 Roquefort 치즈의 경우는 제조시 lipase 및 P. roqueforti의 첨가로 메틸 케톤의 생성을 촉진시켜준 Roquefort 향 농축물의 함량이 월등히 높았다. 관능적 특성 차이를 비교한 결과 Cheddar, Emmentaler 그리고 Parmesan 치즈향 농축물이 sharpness, rancidity, soapy의 강도가 자연치즈 보다 유의성 있게 높았다. 반면, Roquefort 향 농축물에 있어서는 acidity, fruitness 등이 유의성 있게 높게 나타났다. GC profile과 관능적 특성과의 상관관계는 free fatty acid와 sharpness, rancidity, soap는 각각 0.8239, 0.8918, 0.7503 그리고 methyl ketone과 acidity, fruitness는 각기 0.9284, 09659의 높은 상관계수를 보였다.

제품 블라인드 테스트를 통한 사회혁신기업과 일반기업의 브랜드 태도 비교 연구 (A Comparative Study on Brand Attitudes of Social Innovative Companies and General Enterprises by Product Blind Testing)

  • 본 연구는 우리나라 사회혁신기업이 일반기업과 경쟁에서 차별화된 경쟁력을 갖추고 경쟁우위를 확보할 수 있도록 소비자들의 사회혁신기업에 대한 브랜드 태도에 초점을 두고 연구를 진행하였다. 이를 위하여 사회혁신기업의 제품과 일반기업의 제품에 대한 소비자의 브랜드 태도의 차이를 블라인드 테스트를 통하여 비교하였다. 본 연구의 블라인드 테스트 결과 사전 블라인드 테스트에서는 제품속성이나 브랜드 태도에 있어서 통계적으로 유의한 차이가 없는 것으로 나타났으나 사후 제품의 정보를 공개한 후에는 실험물로 사용된 비누 제품이 천연 수제 비누라는 정보가 포함되어 있어 사회혁신기업과 일반기업 제품 모두에서 사후 브랜드 태도가 향상됨을 보여주었다. 그리고 사회혁신기업이 추구하는 사회적 가치에 대한 설명을 해 준 후에는 일반기업에 비하여 사회혁신기업에 대한 관심 증가로 인해 사회혁신기업 제품에 대한 브랜드 태도가 통계적으로 유의하게 높게 나타나는 결과를 보였다. 제품 포장에 명확하고 과장되지 않은 정보표시는 브랜드 태도를 향상시킬 수 있는 도구가 될 수 있다는 것이다. 또한 사회혁신기업 제품에 대한 소비자들의 인식을 높이기 위하여 정부 차원에서의 사회혁신기업에 대한 교육과 홍보 정책이 제고되어져야 할 필요가 있을 것이며, 사회혁신기업이 자신들이 추구하는 사회적 가치에 대한 내용을 제품 포장에 광고카피로 표현함으로써 스스로를 홍보하는 자구책을 마련하는 것도 브랜드 태도 향상을 꾀하고 판매증가를 위한 또 하나의 돌파구가 될 수 있을 것이다.
