Evaluating Brand Name Connotation to a Country: A Conceptualization

  • A good brand name is very important for the success of a product. A thoughtful brand name can convey information that can influence potential customers in a positive way. Thus marketers often formulate brand names intended to explicitly or implicitly play a role in influencing customer perceptions. One way of doing this is to have a brand name bearing connotations to a foreign country. In general, prior research on country-of-origin effects has not adequately focused on exploring brand name connotation and its effect on product evaluation. This research presents a conceptual framework for determining if/how brand name connotation to a foreign country affects product evaluation. Specifically, this paper reviews relevant literature pertaining to country-of-origin and brand name connotation, discusses a conceptualization, proposes research hypotheses, and outlines procedures for collecting data to evaluate the proposed hypotheses.

The Antinociceptive Effect of Intraperitoneally Administered Nonselective Nitric Oxide Synthase Inhibitor on the Rat Formalin Test (흰쥐의 포르말린시험에서 복강 내로 투여한 비선택적 산화질소합성효소 억제제의 항통각효과)

  • Background: Nitric oxide (NO) is involved in the transmission and modulation of nociceptive information at the peripheral, spinal cord and supraspinal levels. We conducted this experiment to assess the antinociceptive effects of a nonselective nitric oxide synthase (NOS) inhibitor, N-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester (L-NAME), on the modulation of pain in rats subjected to the formalin test. Methods: Formalin 5% was injected in the right hind paw after intraperitoneal (IP) injection of various doses of L-NAME (0.5 mg/kg, 1.5 mg/kg with and without L-arginine 100 mg/kg, 5.0 mg/kg). The number of flinches was measured. Results: Formalin injected into the rat hind paw induced a biphasic nociceptive behavior. IP injected L-NAME diminished the nociceptive behaviors in a dose-dependent manner during phases 1 and 2. The concomitant injection of L-arginine reversed the antinocipetive effect of L-NAME. Conclusions: The data demonstrates that a nonselective NOS inhibitor, L-NAME, possesses antinociceptive properties in rats subjected to the formalin test, and the antinociceptive effect of L-NAME is reversed by the concomitant administration of L-arginine.

  • Echinochloa oryzoides (Ard.) Fritsch is one of major troublesome weeds in the paddy fields in Korea. The Korean name and scientific name of the species has been controversial among researchers. The Korean names 'Nonpee' and 'Gangpee' are being used interchangeably and the application of its scientific name is being confused. The committee composed of the Korea National Arboretum and the Korean Society of Plant Taxonomists has agreed in the use of 'Nonpee' as the Korean name. Therefore, we suggest to use the agreed name of the species for researchers to avoid confusion. In addition, the application of scientific names is also confused with E. oryzoides (Ard.) Fritsch and E. oryzicola (Vasinger) Vasinger. E. oryzicola (Vasinger) Vasinger should be applied to the known 'Nonpee' and E. oryzoides (Ard.) Fritsch should be applied to the unrecorded 'Nadononpee' discovered in Masan, Gyeongsangnam-do.

Impact of Brand-Name Fast Food Service on Students' Participation in School Lunch

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the impact of offering brand-name fast food at schools on student participation in school lunch. Two studies were conducted in Indiana, USA. In the first study, daily participation rate of 42 Indiana schools were compared between the days when brand-name fast food were offered and when they were not offered. The impact of brand-name fast food service on school lunch participation differed depending on the types of service offering brand-name fast food. Offering brand-name fast food solely as part of reimbursable meals or a-la-carte items was shown to induce students to the lunch option where brand-name fast food was offered. The second study examined the relationship of brand-name fast food service to monthly participation rate by analyzing secondary data of 1,282 Indiana schools using multiple regression analysis. Offering brand-name fast food was associated with monthly participation rate in school lunch only when schools offered them solely a-la-carte. Based on the results of two studies, it was concluded that offering brand-name fast food induced students from other lunch options to the options where brand-name fast food was offered on the day of service. However, increased or decreased participation in school lunch only on a few days could have not impacted average school lunch participation over a month. It is recommended that schools planning to offer brand-name fast food should make it available as part of reimbursable school lunches so that usual school lunch eaters would not be distracted to a-la-carte lines. Research on the Names of Colleges and Departments Affiliated with the Department of Clothing & Textiles and Analysis of Curriculum (의류학 관련 학과의 소속 단과 대학과 학과 명칭 및 교과과정에 대한 연구)

  • The current status of the curricula of departments related to Clothing & Textiles was checked. The names of colleges and departments affiliated with Clothing & Textiles were also examined. Data on introduction of curricula and subjects disclosed on the website of 60 universities were collected, and the total number of subjects collected was 2,306. As a result, the following conclusions were reached: First, departments related to Clothing & Textiles were the most frequently affiliated with the art/design schools. Depending on the name of the department, the colleges they belong to were different. It was found to be related to the name of the department and the name of the college. Second, According to a survey of the percentage of each major area in the curriculum, the portion of the fashion design area was the highest. The results of checking the composition ratio of the major areas according to the department name showed that there were differences in the curriculum according to the department name. Third, we looked for unusual subjects that were not found in other universities, which could be largely summarized into three: those for characterization, those for preparing for the Fourth Industrial Revolution, and those related to the current situation in the department of Clothing & Textiles. Fourth, we examined subjects related to the Fourth Industrial Revolution, and found that words such as 'sustainable', 'convergence', 'smart', 'knowledge property' and 'computer' were in common. However, the number of subjects was extremely low.

An Experimental Study of Effect on ECV 304 Cells, Platelet Rich Plasma and Rats treated with L-NAME by Boonsimgieum extract (분심기음(分心氣飮)이 고혈압 백서와 인간유래 혈관내피세포주(ECV 304)에 미치는 영향에 대한 연구)

  • Object : This study was designed to research whether the protection and inhibitory effects of cardiovascular diseases in L-NAME induced rat or ECV 304 cell lines through the Cell morphological pattern, Tunel assay, LDH activity, heart rate, blood pressure and immunohistochemistric analysis by Boonsimgieum water extract Methods : Nitric oxide(NO) play an important role in normal and pathophysiological cells including as a messenger molecule, neurotransmitter, microbiocidal agent, or dilator of blood vessels and artheriosclerosis, hypertension, myocardial infarction, respectively. Endothelial cell products can modulate the magnitude of a response to a vasoconstrictor, as evinced by the greater constriction after endothelium removal or NO synthesis blockade. To investigate that Boonsimgieum in the potential contribution of the levels of nitric oxide generated by endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) and the mechanisms of protection against NG-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester (L-NAME), human ECV 304 cells, which normally do not express eNOS, were expressed by L-NAME. L-NAME stimulated rat or cells were found to be resistant to injury and delayed death following the Boonsimgieum. Inhibition of nitric oxide synthesis abolished the protective effect against L-NAME, thrombin and collagen exposure. Interestingly, such effects have been observed during stimulation with agents such as phenylephrine and KCl on L-NAME mediate rats, were damaged by the NOS inhibitor L-NAME. Result : As the result of this study, In group, the anti-apoptosis and necrosis in the cardiovascular system have a potential capacity for prevented, protected and treating the diseases of cardiovascular system, against the necrosis of rat and ECV 304 cells with Caspase 3 and calpain expression by L-NAME is promoted. Conclusion : these results demonstrate neuroprotective and memory enhancing effects of ZIBU, suggesting its beneficial actions for the treatment of AD.

In Oriental Medicine, Ondam-tang has been used for disease in relation to cardiovascular system. We studied on the protection and inhibitory effects of cardiovascular diseases in L-NAME induced rat or ECV304 cell lines through the Cell morphological pattern, Tunel assay, LDH activity, heart rate, blood pressure and immunohistochemistric analysis by Ondam-tang. A Study on the Performance Analysis of Entity Name Recognition Techniques Using Korean Patent Literature

  • Entity name recognition is a part of information extraction that extracts entity names from documents and classifies the types of extracted entity names. Entity name recognition technologies are widely used in natural language processing, such as information retrieval, machine translation, and query response systems. Various deep learning-based models exist to improve entity name recognition performance, but studies that compared and analyzed these models on Korean data are insufficient. In this paper, we compare and analyze the performance of CRF, LSTM-CRF, BiLSTM-CRF, and BERT, which are actively used to identify entity names using Korean data. Also, we compare and evaluate whether embedding models, which are variously used in recent natural language processing tasks, can affect the entity name recognition model's performance improvement. As a result of experiments on patent data and Korean corpus, it was confirmed that the BiLSTM-CRF using FastText method showed the highest performance.

Taxonomic identity of the plant name Sanggisaeng (식물명 상기생(桑寄生)의 분류학적 실체)

  • References in the modern Korean literature in this area to the Korean medicinal plant name written in Chinese script and expressed as Sanggisaeng have been extremely confusing. This name has been considered as six species, specifically Loranthus parasiticus, Loranthus tanakae, Taxillus yadoriki, Taxillus chinensis, Korthalsella japonica, and Viscum album var. coloratum. Recently, it was suggested that sanggisaeng is not distributed in Korea; however, the plant name Sanggisaeng recorded in old Korean literature sources, such as in the Hyang-yak-chae-chwi-wol-lyeong, Hyang-yak-jib-seong-bang, and Dong-ui-bo-gam sources, among others, was identified using the name V. album var. coloratum, whereas in China, Sanggisaeng was referred to as T. sutchuenensis. The Hangeul name of Sanggisaeng had been Ppongnamugyeousali, but now the name Gyeousali is widely used.
