  • Background: The anterior-middle superior alveolar (AMSA) anesthetic technique has been reported to be a less traumatic alternative to several conventional nerve blocks and local infiltration for anesthesia of the maxillary teeth, their periodontium, and the palate. However, its anatomic basis remains controversial. The present study aimed to determine if the pattern of cortical and cancellous bone density in the maxillary premolar region can provide a rationale for the success of the AMSA anesthetic technique. Method: Cone-beam computed tomography scans of 66 maxillary quadrants from 34 patients (16 men and 18 women) were evaluated using a volumetric imaging software for cortical and cancellous bone densities in three interdental regions between the canine and first molar. Bone density was measured in Hounsfield units (HU) separately for the buccal cortical, palatal cortical, buccal cancellous, and palatal cancellous bones. Mean HU values were compared using the Mann-Whitney U test and one-way ANOVA with post-hoc analysis. Results: Cancellous bone density was significantly lower (P ≤ 0.001) in the palatal half than in the buccal half across all three interdental regions. However, there was no significant difference (P = 0.106) between the buccal and palatal cortical bone densities at the site of AMSA injection. No significant difference was observed between the two genders for any of the evaluated parameters. Conclusions: The palatal half of the cancellous bone had a significantly lower density than the buccal half, which could be a reason for the effective diffusion of the anesthetic solution following a palatal injection during the AMSA anesthetic technique.

  • This paper presents the detailed experimental and analytical investigation on the evolution of static (Es) and dynamic modulus of elasticity (Ed) of concrete having 0%, 35%, and 50% FA used as partial cement replacement. Destructive and non-destructive tests were conducted on cylindrical specimens to evaluate the compressive strength and MoE of concrete in compression at the age of 28, 56, 90, and 150 days for all mixes. Experimental results show that the concrete having 35% FA achieved compressive strength and MoE similar to plain concrete at the age of 90 days, while 50% FA concrete attained satisfactory compressive strength and MoE at the age of 150 days. The comprehensive statistical analysis has been carried out in two ways on the basis of the experimental results. Firstly, the 28-day crushing strength of plain concrete in compression was used to design the models for the prediction of Es and Ed of fly ash concrete at any age and percentage replacement of FA. Secondly, using the values of UPV and RHN, models have been developed to predict the age or time-dependent Es and Ed of fly ash concrete. These models will be helpful in assessing the Es and Ed of fly ash concrete without knowing the 28-day crushing strength of plain concrete in compression in the laboratory. Hence, the suggested models in the present study will be beneficial in conducting the health assessment of fly ash based concrete structures.

  • An efficient protocol for in vitro multiple shoot bud induction and plant regeneration from mature green cotyledon derived callus tissues of Acacia sinuata has been developed. Callus formation occurs at all the concentrations of thidiazuron (TDZ) in Murashige and Skoog's (MS) medium, but 0.6 ${\mu}M$ proved to be the best with maximum callus formation frequency. Supplementation of TDZ in combination with indole-acetic acid (IAA) in MS media accelerates shoot bud organogenesis in differentiating callus tissues with 60-70% conversion of shoot buds into shoot Most efficient shoot organogenesis was recorded when TDZ induced calli were subcultured at different concentrations of 6-benzyla-denine (BA). Optimum shoot bud induction and plant regeneration from callus was achieved when 0.6 ${\mu}M$ (TDZ) induced calli were subcultured at 3.0 ${\mu}M$ (BA) where $16.6{\pm}0.74$ shoots/unit callus on obtained. Rooting in in vitro differentiated shoots was achieved when transferred to medium containing different concentration of indole-3-butyric acid (IBA) in full & half strength MS medium. The well rooted plantlets were hardened and transferred to net house with 90% survival rate.

  • In this paper, we consider a new class of regularized (nonconvex) generalized mixed variational inequality problems in real Hilbert space. We give the concepts of partially relaxed strongly mixed monotone and partially relaxed strongly $\theta$-pseudomonotone mappings, which are extension of the concepts given by Xia and Ding [19], Noor [13] and Kazmi et al. [9]. Further we use the auxiliary principle technique to suggest a two-step iterative algorithm for solving regularized (nonconvex) generalized mixed variational inequality problem. We prove that the convergence of the iterative algorithm requires only the continuity, partially relaxed strongly mixed monotonicity and partially relaxed strongly $\theta$-pseudomonotonicity. The theorems presented in this paper represent improvement and generalization of the previously known results for solving equilibrium problems and variational inequality problems involving the nonconvex (convex) sets, see for example Noor [13], Pang et al. [14], and Xia and Ding [19].

  • Malaria is one of the most widespread infectious diseases of tropical countries with an estimated 207 million cases globally. In India, there are endemic pockets of this disease, including Aligarh. Hundreds of Plasmodium falciparum and P. vivax cases with severe pathological conditions are recorded every year in this district. The aim of this study is to find out changes in liver enzymes and kidney markers. Specific diagnosis for P. falciparum and P. vivax was made by microscopic examination of Giemsa stained slides. Clinical symptoms were observed in both of these infections. Liver enzymes, such as AST, ALT, and ALP, and kidney function markers, such as creatinine and urea, were estimated by standard biochemical techniques. In Aligarh district, P. vivax, P. falciparum, and mixed infections were 64%, 34%, and 2%, respectively. In case of P. falciparum infection, the incidences of anemia, splenomegaly, renal failure, jaundice, and neurological sequelae were higher compared to those in P. vivax infection. Recrudescence and relapse rates were 18% and 20% in P. falciparum and P. vivax infections, respectively. Liver dysfunctions and renal failures were more common in P. falciparum patients, particularly in elderly patients. Artesunate derivatives must, therefore, be introduced for the treatment of P. falciparum as they resist to chloroquine as well as sulfadoxine-pyrimethamine combinations.

  • This research conducted a before/after naturalistic field experiment, with the early Arab Spring as the treatment. Compared to before the early Arab Spring, after the observation period the associations became stronger among the Web terms: 'Jihad, Sharia, innovation, democracy and civil society.' The Western concept of civil society transformed into a central Islamist ideological component. At another level, the inter-nation network based on Jihad-weighted Web hyperlinks between pairs of 46 Muslim Majority (MM) nations found Iran in one of the top two positions of flow betweenness centrality, a measure of network power, both before and after early Arab Spring. In contrast, Somalia, UAE, Egypt, Libya, and Sudan increased most in network flow betweenness centrality. The MM 'Jihad'-centric word co-occurrence network more than tripled in size, and the semantic structure more became entropic. This media "cloud" perhaps billowed as Islamist groups changed their material-level relationships and the corresponding media representations of Jihad among them changed after early Arab Spring. Future research could investigate various rival explanations for this naturalistic field experiment's findings.

  • Pollution flashover of outdoor insulators is a common risk, which affects the safe operation of overhead transmission networks. Early electrical power systems, which feature insulators made from ceramic materials have been used all over the world with good performance. At present, non-ceramic insulators are in common use, as a result of their good electrical as well as mechanical properties. The aim of this paper is to discuss and compare the flashover performance of insulators typically used in power lines, such as, porcelain, ethylene-propylene-diene-monomer (EPDM) rubber, room temperature vulcanized (RTV) and high temperature vulcanized (HTV) coated silicone rubber. The effect of various parameters, including the severity of pollution, ice accumulation, and shade profile, are considered.. From the studies reviewed it was concluded that there is a distinct difference in the flashover voltages of different types of insulators, and the silicone provides the best flashover performance of all insulating materials.

  • Breakdown of solid insulating materials in power equipment could result in undesired outages and replacements, and may be due to an increase in electric stress on the material. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct a proper diagnosis of materials before their practical use. In this work, a few inherent properties of different non-cellulosic insulating materials, such as Nomex, Teflon, laminated Nomex, glass bonded mica, epoxy resin bonded mica paper, and epoxy resin bonded fiberglass, have been evaluated by performing non-destructive dielectric diagnostic measurements, and an attempt has been made to correlate these basic parameters to evaluate the breakdown strength (BDS). An equation has been proposed using a basic theory which defines the correlation between the BDS, dielectric constant, dissipation factor, sample thickness, and volume resistivity. The results obtained from the equation are also compared with the experimental values. The suggested equation will be helpful to predict the BDS of any non-cellulosic material without experimentation in the laboratory.
