Objective: This research was designed to investigate how young children's musical ability and interest in Korean music and their playfulness were affected by musical play activities based on traditional children's songs. Methods: In this study, 28 five-year-old children from W childcare center in W city were divided into an experimental and a comparison group. The experimental group then took part in musical play activities based on traditional children's songs while the comparison group, even though they sang the same songs, took part in musical activities based on themes in the 'Nuri curriculum'. The average and standard deviations of the children's musical ability and interest in Korean music and their playfulness were calculated from the collected data, and ANCOVA was computed using the pre-test scores of each subject as the covariate. Results: The results showed that taking part in musical play activities based on traditional children's songs positively affected young children's musical ability and interest in Korean music and their playfulness. Conclusion/Implications: Therefore, it is suggested that such activities could be useful components for effective Korean music programs in the field of early childhood education.

The article concerns the continuity and transformation of the cartoon strip for the musical performance. Recently, the cartoon strip has been considered as a resource for creating the musical performance. However, There are a few articles on the relationship of the cartoon strip and the musical performance. In this respect, the article seeks to examine the characteristics of the cartoon strip and the musical performance in terms of planning system, storytelling structure, character formation and marketing strategies. The case on the musical entitled 'The Great Catsby', which is rooted in the cartoon strip entitled 'The Great Catsby', is examined. As a result, on the one hand, the characteristics of the cartoon strip has continuously affected the process of creating the musical performance in terms of storytelling, character formation, stage management and the marketing activities. On the other hand, the musical performance considers the music and sound, the moving image and stage management, performance of the actors as an essential part in comparison with the cartoon strip. In addition, the musical performance simplifies and recontructs the cartoon strip according to the principles of the musical performance.

The objective of this study is to suggest problems and complementation of Korean curriculum by comparatively analyzing curriculums of domestic/foreign musical-related departments. In order to compare differences in domestic/foreign curriculums, selecting musical-related departments of domestic colleges with four-year course and 2 or 3-year course, and also five musical-related schools in the US and another five schools in France, the actual lesson status of dance curriculum was researched. In the results, for the development of Korean musical, it would be necessary to reorganize its curriculum. First, the systematic dance curriculum suitable for musical site would be needed. Second, the dance technique lesson suitable for diversified musical expressions should be strengthened. Third, teaching methods for the characterized musical dance would be necessary. Above all, we need effective education method concerned with performance venues. Musical students are facing difficulties in performing acting, singing, and dancing at the same time. In reality, it is even tough to learn a single area among them. For the original Korean-style musical that could be imitated by no one, the systematic curriculum of college is very important.

Music brings pleasure and relaxation to people. Therefore, it is necessary to classify musical genres based on scenes. Identifying favorite musical genres from massive music data is a time-consuming and laborious task. Recent studies have suggested that machine learning algorithms are effective in distinguishing between various musical genres. However, meeting the actual requirements in terms of accuracy or timeliness is challenging. In this study, a hybrid machine learning model that combines a deep residual auto-encoder (DRAE) and support vector machine (SVM) for musical genre recognition was proposed. Eight manually extracted features from the Mel-frequency cepstral coefficients (MFCC) were employed in the preprocessing stage as the hybrid music data source. During the training stage, DRAE was employed to extract feature maps, which were then used as input for the SVM classifier. The experimental results indicated that this method achieved a 91.54% F1-score and 91.58% top-1 accuracy, outperforming existing approaches. This novel approach leverages deep architecture and conventional machine learning algorithms and provides a new horizon for musical genre classification tasks.

This aim of this study was to investigate the effects of the music appreciation teaching-learning method on the musical ability of young children. The music appreciation activities were developed firstly in consideration of the 4 steps of the learning cycle (recognition, exploration, inquiry, application). One group was then taught music appreciation, taking into account the learning cycle. The results were then compared with another comparative group in terms of musical ability. The results indicated that the musical ability sum of the treatment groups improved more than the comparative group. More specifically, the treatment group for four-year-olds was seen to have improved significantly more than the comparative group in terms of musical ability. These results indicate that this music appreciation teaching-learning method has a number of positive effects upon young children`s musical ability. Therefore, it is suggested that kindergarten teachers conduct instruction with an appropriate accompanying learning cycle as part of the teaching-learning method when it comes to improving the musical ability of young children.

Methods for effective musical score recognition and efficient editing of musical scores are demanded because functions of computers for researches on musical activities become more and more important parts in recent days. In the conventional methods for handling musical scores manually, there are weak points such as incorrect score symbols in input process and requirement of much time to adjust the incorrect symbols. And also there is another weak point that the scores edited by each application program can be remodified by a specific application program only. In this paper, we proposed a method for automatic musical score recognition of printed musical scores in order to make up for the weak points. In the proposed method, staffs in a scanned score image are eliminated by horizontal histogram, noises are removed by 4 directional edge tracking algorithm, and then musical score symbols are extracted by using Grassfire algorithm. The extracted symbols are recognized by hierarchical ART2 algorithm. In order to evaluate the performance of the proposed method, we used 100 musical scores for experiment. In the experiment, we verified that the proposed method using hierarchical ART2 algorithm is efficient.

The purpose of this essay is three-fold: to trace the genealogy of the Korean musical, which ever since its inception in the 1960s has been seeking to modernize Korean theater with Broadway as a constant role model; to investigate how the national and the global conflict and are conflated in the form of the Korean musical in the process of its (dis)identification with Broadway; and to examine how its intercultural translations reveal and reflect the dilemma and ambivalence posed by globalization in our era. Drawing on Richard Dyer's signature article Entertainment and Utopia, I analyze how the Korean musical manifests and conduits competing utopian impulses of Korean/Global audiences. I also attempt to problematize the formulaic notion of Broadway musicalsthe Superior Other!which implies a global hegemony that does not, in fact, exist because the boundary between the global and the local as well as the power dynamics of global culture are not fixed but constantly moving and changing. Today's musical scene in Korea shows interesting reversals from the 1990s, when Korean producers were eager to debut on Broadway and impress American audiences. Korean producers no longer look up to Broadway as a final destination; instead they want to make Seoul a new Broadway. They import Broadway musicals and turn them into Korean shows. The glamor of Broadway is no longer the main attraction of musicals in Korea. What young audiences look for most is the glamor of K-pop idols and utopian feelings of abundance, energy, intensity, transparency and community, which they can experience live in the musical with their favorite stars right in front of their eyes. In conclusion, I delve into the complex dynamics of recent Korean musicals with Thomas Friedman's theory of Globalization 3.0 as reference. The binary formula of Global/America versus Local/Korea cannot be applied to the dynamic and intercultural musical scene of today. Globalization is not a uniform phenomenon but rather a twofold (multifold) process of global domination and dissemination, in which the global and the local conflict and are conflated constantly. As this study tries to illuminate, the Korean musical has evolved in a huge net of interdependences between the global and the local with a range of sources, powers and influences.

This paper analyzed the marketing success factors of the Chinese musical , which entered the world musical market for the first time in the history of Chinese musicals, and investigated the positive effects of the success of on the development of Chinese musicals. First, five important elements of musical marketing were determined as the analysis criteria and through this, we were able to derive that the marketing promotion was achieved by establishing a systematic strategy in the techniques of 'positioning', 'ticket promotion', 'PR strategy', 'producer', 'OSMU' as the success factors of the musical . The case of in Chinese musicals can be regarded as the first successful case by professional marketing. Due to the results of these achievements, the Chinese government and local musical support systems were established, and in recent years, Chinese musicals have been qualitative. It has been confirmed that Chinese musicals are growing rapidly in recent years in terms of quality and industry. It is expected that more academic studies related to Chinese musicals will be conducted through this study, and it is the purpose of this study to be used as a material that can contribute to the creation of Chinese musical with evenly high workability and productability in the future.
