  • This paper presents a simultaneous optimization approach of case-based reasoning (CBR) using a genetic algorithm(GA) for the prediction of stock price index. Prior research suggested many hybrid models of CBR and the GA for selecting a relevant feature subset or optimizing feature weights. Most studies, however, used the GA for improving only a part of architectural factors for the CBR system. However, the performance of CBR may be enhanced when these factors are simultaneously considered. In this study, the GA simultaneously optimizes multiple factors of the CBR system. Experimental results show that a GA approach to simultaneous optimization of CBR outperforms other conventional approaches for the prediction of stock price index.

  • The purpose of this study is to establish a method of estimating the daily urban water demend using Backpropagation algorithm is part of ANN(Artificial Neural Network). This method will be used for the development of the efficient management and operations of the water supply facilities. The data used were the daily urban water demend, the population and weather conditions such as treperarture, precipitation, relative humidity, etc. Kwangju city was selected for the case study area. We adjusted the weights of ANN that are iterated the training data patterns. We normalized the non-stationary time series data [-1,+1] to fast converge, and choose the input patterns by statistical methods. We separated the training and checking patterns form input date patterns. The performance of ANN is compared with multiple-regression method. We discussed the representation ability the model building process and the applicability of ANN approach for the daily water demand. ANN provided the reasonable results for time series forecasting.

  • The evaluation of torsional effects on multistory buildings remains an open issue, despite considerable research efforts and numerous publications. In this study, a large number of multiple test structures are considered with normally distributed topological attributes, in order to quantify the statistically derived relationships between the torsional criteria and response parameters. The linear regression analysis results, depict that the center of twist and the ratio of torsion (ROT) index proved numerically to be the most reliable criteria for the prediction of the modal rotation and displacements, however the residuals distribution and R-squared derived for the ductility demands prediction, was not constant and low respectively. Thus, the assessment of the torsional parameters' contribution to the nonlinear structural response was investigated using artificial neural networks. Utilizing the connection weights approach, the Center of Strength, Torsional Stiffness and the Base Shear Torque curves were found to exhibit the highest impact numerically, while all the other torsional indices' contribution was investigated and quantified.

  • In this paper, we propose the beamforming algorithm for the performance improvement of MIMO MC-CDMA system. The proposed multibeamforming of MIMO MC-CDMA structure having the same number of beamformer as the number of transmit antenna is derived by calculating the error signals between the coded pilot symbols and the corresponding received signals from the multiple transmitters of the desired user in the frequency domain, transforming the frequency-domain error signals into time-domain error signals, and updating the weights of the multibeamformer in the time-domain in the direction minimizing the mean squared error (MSE). The proposed approach can track each direction of arrival (DOA) of the signals from multi-antennas of a desired user. The performance improvement is investigated through computer simulation by applying the proposed approach to MIMO MC-CDMA system in a multipath fading channel with multiusers.

  • As the demand for high-quality rendering for mixed reality, videogame, and simulation has increased, global illumination has been actively researched. Monte Carlo path tracing can realize global illumination and produce photorealistic scenes that include critical effects such as color bleeding, caustics, multiple light, and shadows. If the sampling rate is insufficient, however, the rendered results have a large amount of noise. The most successful approach to eliminating or reducing Monte Carlo noise uses a feature-based filter. It exploits the scene characteristics such as a position within a world coordinate and a shading normal. In general, the techniques are based on the denoised pixel or sample and are computationally expensive. However, the main challenge for all of them is to find the appropriate weights for every feature while preserving the details of the scene. In this paper, we compare the recent algorithms for removing Monte Carlo noise in terms of their performance and quality. We also describe their advantages and disadvantages. As far as we know, this study is the first in the world to compare the artificial intelligence-based denoising methods for Monte Carlo rendering.

  • Although significant progress has been made in synthesizing visually realistic face images by Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs), there still lacks effective approaches to provide fine-grained control over the generation process for semantic facial attribute editing. In this work, we propose a novel cross channel self-attention based generative adversarial network (CCA-GAN), which weights the importance of multiple channels of features and archives pixel-level feature alignment and conversion, to reduce the impact on irrelevant attributes while editing the target attributes. Evaluation results show that CCA-GAN outperforms state-of-the-art models on the CelebA dataset, reducing Fréchet Inception Distance (FID) and Kernel Inception Distance (KID) by 15~28% and 25~100%, respectively. Furthermore, visualization of generated samples confirms the effect of disentanglement of the proposed model.

  • Future network scenario will be a heterogeneous wireless network environment composed of multiple networks and multimode terminals (MMT). Seamless switching and optimal connectivity for MMT among different networks and different services become extremely important. Here, a vertical handoff algorithm combined an improved entropy weighting method based on grey relational analysis (GRA) is proposed. In which, the improved entropy weight method is used to obtain the objective weights of the network attributes, and GRA is done to rank the candidate networks in order to choose the best network. Through simulation and comparing the results with other vertical handoff decision algorithms, the number of handoffs and reversal phenomenon are reduced with the proposed algorithm, which shows a better performance.

  • Recently, with the development of technology, computer vision research based on the human visual system has been actively conducted. Saliency maps have been used to highlight areas that are visually interesting within the image, but they can suffer from low performance due to external factors, such as an indistinct background or light source. In this study, existing color, brightness, and contrast feature maps are subjected to multiple shape and orientation filters and then connected to a fully connected layer to determine pixel intensities within the image based on location-based weights. The proposed method demonstrates better performance in separating the background from the area of interest in terms of color and brightness in the presence of external elements and noise. Location-based weight normalization is also effective in removing pixels with high intensity that are outside of the image or in non-interest regions. Our proposed method also demonstrates that multi-filter normalization can be processed faster using parallel processing.

  • In survival analysis of observational data, the inverse probability weighting method and the Cox proportional hazards model are widely used when estimating the causal effects of multiple-valued treatment. In this paper, the two kinds of weights have been examined in the inverse probability weighting method. We explain the reason why the stabilized weight is more appropriate when an inverse probability weighting method using the generalized propensity score is applied. We also emphasize that a marginal hazard ratio and the conditional hazard ratio should be distinguished when defining the hazard ratio as a treatment effect under the Cox proportional hazards model. A simulation study based on real data is conducted to provide concrete numerical evidence.

  • This paper describes a new measuring technique by analysing multiple time-series patterns. This paper's goal is that extracts a really measured value having a sample pattern which is the best matched with an inputted time-series, and calculates a difference ratio with the value. Therefore, the proposed technique is not a recognition but a measurement. and not a hardware but a software. The proposed technique is consisted of three stages, initialization, learning and measurement. In the initialization stage, it decides weights of all parameters using importance given by an operator. In the learning stage, it classifies sample patterns using LBG and DTW algorithm, and then creates code sequences for all the patterns. In the measurement stage, it creates a code sequence for an inputted time-series pattern, finds samples having the same code sequence by hashing, and then selects the best matched sample. Finally it outputs the really measured value with the sample and the difference ratio. For the purpose of performance evaluation, we tested on multiple time-series patterns obtained from etching machine which is a semiconductor manufacturing.
